1-Too much red tape to get things done
2-No one cares about the students (unless they jump or threaten to)
3-Financial aid is a joke, so is the Bursar's office
4-TA's (for the most part) don't even speak English
5-Most of the students are out-of-town pretentious assholes
6-There's no such thing as the NYU community
7-It's ovverated and overrpriced

07/08/2008 | NYU is horrible! They stick you in a filthy, disgusting tiny room with snobs who are terribly unfriendly and give you a key and you are on your own. No one helps you, no one tells you that you need a cord to go online at one of the most expensive schools in the country, and they snap your head off if you even ask for toilet paper here! The lobby guards are always on personal calls and act like jail wardens. Every spoiled bitch thinks she is from Sex and the City, every guy is either gay or a tool it seems. Think again if you feel that NYU is the school for you--it has no campus at all and they can stick you anywhere and no sense of community whatsoever!

01/25/2008 |  Honestly, the only perk about this school is the fact that it's in the middle of New York City. The dorm rooms are the size of a shoebox (and they charge you as though it were a 5-star hotel room), nobody cares enough to help you if you have questions, there are allegedly "tons of opportunities" here but they're impossible to find out about--and if you do manage to find out, it costs you extra. EVERYTHING here costs extra. You'd think with a tuition of 50k, they could give us students a break on some other stuff, but apparently that would be too generous. And the food is terrible--if you don't need a meal plan, don't get one. Everything is coated in grease and oil. As for the student body, yes there are a lot of very open and cool people, but for every tolerable person there's a snobby rich bitch who only thinks about him or herself. The campus is so spread out, if you have a class that's not at a Washington Square building, you're never going to make it. And they have so many grad students teaching it's ridiculous (especially in the language departments).

12/26/2006 | Excellent school if you really want to learn and get ahead in life. Jobs respect the NYU reputation. The learning curve is high and you're expected to put out. I thoroughly enjoyed mt experience there. The only con... It's pricey,but worth it.

12/14/2005 | I haven;t studied in NYU, I studied in a public school. Very good public school, one of the best in US, but still a public school.
I am an extrovert person. I find parties and party places. I know people. I really don't care if NYU if in the center of goddamned New York or my university is in a blue collar undustrial city. That's in terms of nightlife, girls, etc. I've had more girls that I can afford anyway.
NYU, however, has one advantage, about which even most of ivy league schools can be jealous about- it's connection with employers. I'm talking about economics/business/etc related jobs. I read it's the same about law.
Sorry, you can't beat that. NYU has the best connections. and if you know your purpose for going to college (which is finding a job), you'd choose NYU.

01/22/2005 | Seriously, the only way to experience this university is to come take a tour of its area in the city. Don't listen to the people who complain about it yet got rejected from it. Listen to the people who are here, and most of them can't get enough of it. The only thing you really need to know is that it is not the typical college experience. You're going to do things, you're not going to sit in your dorm room and play video games all day. It is LIFE and it is AMAZING.

09/28/2004 | I transferred from a state school to NYU a year ago. I'm orginally from the city, so that part really is not that exciting. As a chemistry major, I had the pleasure of dealing with mediocre lab equipment, 1 or 2 hour waiting for the computer labs, grad students that spoke 2 words of english, professors that could care less and whose lectures had almost NOTHING to do with the material in the exams, and exponential grade curves that allowed me to get a C in physics by guessing every single question on all 5 exams. All for the low, low price of 40K a year. I'm getting the hell out of here before I too jump from a tall building like 6 other people have already done in the past year. Yeah...NYU sucks.

03/25/2004 | NYU is a great experience for students who want to skip traditonal college nonsense. Instead of keg parties and football games, one can see a Broadway production, hear jazz at Small's, or drink homemade beer at McSorley's. Also, NYU has an excellent faculty and there are plenty of intership opportunities. I disagree with Claude - most departments at NYU, with the exception of the School of Ed (But doesn't that apply to most universities? Sorry, it had to be said) are first-rate.

02/21/2001 | NYU, like BU or GW, is basically a sidewalk school (without much of a campus), which is fine if you care more about being in the City than "being in college". Tisch is great for musical theater and drama. The film school is the best. NYU is great for applied mathematics and Art History, but most of the other departments in the College of Arts & Sciences are second rate.

Great academics, plenty of internship opportunities, and the best night life around.
