I LOVE NORTHWESTERN. Transferred here this year from a top east coast liberal arts college and couldn't be happier. Diversity of students but everyone is friendly, the lakefront is beautiful and Evanston is a pretty fun town, classes are great-- no unapproachable professors like some people warn at other universities of NU's size. If you are deciding pick Northwestern!!

I'm an alumni and I can say that NU was a great experience. I wish it could strengthen its reputation, but we have to wait and see.

Students have broader interests than U of C, but it's still cold as hell.

Great private school and the Chicago area adds to it.

As a freshman at NU, I can totally see how people can hate it. But at the same time, it's really fun if you know where to look. Sometimes it can be a little boring but overall, you're going to come out with an excellent education (and, most likely, an amazing tolerance for alcohol.)

Great reputation and no doubt lives up to it with an excellent School of Communications. Evanston is a fantastic town just outside of the wonderful city of Chicago. That alone would be enough for me to consider going there. Football team has been good the past few years.

Great academics...but I think somebody forgot to tell these kids they are allowed to have fun too. I visited my brother there and was bored out of my mind. He hates it too but does not have the guts to post that on here

The campus is beautiful, and we're in a really nice part of Chicago. NU is really strong in academics, and people here are well rounded. Getting a degree from Northwestern will ensure that you get a great job, or get into a great graduate school. Plus you meet some really humble and interesting people here.

Northwestern is a tremendous institution with brilliant students and a highly influential faculty. It's graduates have unparalleled opportunities in business, engineering, and the arts. And, unlike most of the posters above, I actually went there.

All three of my children migrated from New England to Evanston to attend this superb school. I highly recommend it!

When I applied to colleges this year, I had no question in my mind that this is where I wanted to go, so I applied for Early Decision and was accepted. My brother graduated Northwestern last year and my sister is still there. I plan on having the same great experience that they've told me about!

Excellent MBA program.

Solid Midwestern University. . .good arts and sciences. . .people aren't nearly as unapproachable at more elitist schools. I didn't do my graduate work here but it made my top 5 list and I love stopping by periodically to visit old friends.

BEWARE COMMUNICATIONS COLLEGE UNDERGRADS: The new Asso. Dean for Undergraduate Studies is an "academic" of questionable integrity and qualifications. His leadership is certainly not of the high standard of excellence that students in Northwestern's Communications School have enjoyed in previous years. Before committing your academic and professional career on the credentials of this interloper, you would benefit from a little journalistic research behind the his hyped-up academic and professional credentials. It is info worthy of a Master's Thesis in Investigative Journalism for a savvy would-be reporter. Good Luck! http://www.communication.northwestern.edu/programs/ undergraduate/new/

If you're looking for both and academic and an artsy school, Northwestern is for you. With stellar theatre, music, engineering, and liberal arts departments this place has something for everyone.
