The University of Colorado belongs in the upper tier of this ranking of colleges and universities. To back up this statement, I quote the following announcement from the Office of News Services at CU Boulder: "CU-BOULDER RANKED 11th BEST PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD, ACCORDING TO SURVEY: A new survey of the world's top universities cited in the Sept. 8 issue of The Economist ranks the University of Colorado at Boulder as the 11th best public university. A total of 500 international institutions were ranked in the 2005 survey, undertaken by the Institute for Higher Education at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China. The survey ranked Harvard University first, followed by Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, the University of California-Berkely and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology among all universities, both public and private. The criteria used in the rankings included Nobel Prizes or Fields Medals (the highest scientific award for mathematicians) received by faculty and alumni and the number of highly cited researchers in several broad categories. Other criteria included the number of articles published in Nature and Science -- widely considered the world's top two research journals -- as well as the total number of research paper citations and the academic performance of faculty with respect to institution size. For more information visit the Web site at http//ed.sjtu.edu.cn/ranking.htm." So, especially if you are inclined toward the sciences, you can't do much better than the University of Colorado at Boulder. Do your homework on this school and you'll find out just how many presigious honors have been won by its faculty and students, how many CU graduates have gone on to become NASA astronauts and scientists of international repute, and how CU's commitment to excellence in teaching and research makes it one of the world's best public universities.

My daughter went to and graduated from CU, too bad I can't get my $60,000 back. Two words: Ward Churchill. Ugh.

Without a doubt, one of the most underrated universities in the country! As far as public universities go, just below Berkeley, Michigan, and Virginia, occupying a stratum with North Carolina, UCLA, UCSD, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illionis, Texas, etc. Attended back in the late 90's and absolutely loved it! Extremely well-regarded research university with excellent professors. The Department of Applied Mathematics (where I spent most of my time) is top-notch. Folks I graduated with are at places like MIT, Northwestern, NYU, etc. I, myself, work for one of the most prestigious institutions in the country. Someday, people will realize that CU is much more than a party school...

This is a great university for serious students. A science/engineering students will benefit greatly from the breadth of research conducted and condition of lab resources. Education quality is very high for those serious to learn and both the campus and city are beautiful. If you come to party, you likely will, and thus will receive a poor education and a prolonged hangover.

I'm sorry, CU is one of the most overrated undergrad schools in the country. It's horribly expensive for out-of-state students and the academics are adequate at best. Boulder is an extremely expensive town to live in, the average house costs in excess of $300,000. It's a beautiful area and Boulder isn't that bad of a town, it just could be a hell of a lot better.

Cool atmosphere but I found a lot of the classes to be kind of a joke and most of the students (undergrads in the College of Arts and Sciences, at least) didn't really give two hoots about anything except partying, which makes it a kind of bad place for intellectual dialogue and such. Transferred out after two years and am much happier elsewhere.

Skiing here is great. That's why all of the rich students from out-of-state come here. Campus culture is definitely into partying-- drugs and alcohol are everywhere. The recent scandal in the football program is an embarassment to the entire state.

Did grad work there. Lots of memorization. Nothing thought provoking. Hated Boulder, moved on to politics in DC. Kenyon on the other hand...5 stars!

Mostly a party school. Boulder is a dangerous place to be a pedestrian. The food was good. :P

The Business school at CU is great. The professors are awesome, the culture is great. Get involved, go hiking, and go to some football games and you'll love CU.

Boulder is a wonderful place to go to school. The outdoor activities are limitless, the campus is beautiful, and the teachers are great. You can't beat it.

A great school with a diverse student body. Most of the professors I had at CU were very interesting and offered a multitude of perspectives on life. I believe that CU prepared me well for the challenges in my career and more importantly life. Plus, Boulder is a great place to live.

While getting an excellent education you can enjoy the lovely surroundings of Boulder which offer more outdoor activities than you can imagine. The campus is large enough to offer multiple opportunites and degree offerings, but not so large that you have to watch your professors on a screen. The largest class size is 450 people and you will only have to take a handfull of classes that size. After your freshman year your average class size is 25 students. Not great for the students trying to squeeze in more skiing opportunities.
