Rock-solid graduate programs. . .in a bad neighborhood despite the foolish and ignorant lies (press releases) about a 'diverse and vibrant city'. . .talented student body. . .snobbish? Yup- but the attitude is justified. . .everyone is from the top 10%. . .(but the Long-Island-JAP phenomenon does wear on you) It's a great experience as a graduate student because you will meet talent from all over the world. But I will still lop off a star because Philly isn't for everyone. . .

Comments from MatthewGuttman should be discounted. He could not spell beautiful correctly and his comments about Jews and Asians are idiotic. What community colleges rejected you out of high school. Certainly , he is not a Penn student or ever has been a Penn student.

I love Penn...and I'm a proud a$$ alum of the Annenberg School for Communication. I actually didn't get accepted to Penn when I initially applied to college. So...I attended another 4-year institute on the west coast...when I realized how I didn't blend in. That's when I transferred to other colleges....and decided to choose Penn. When I first came to this campus...I immediately fell in love with the architect, the students...faculties...the *gasp*...neighborhood. Despite Penn being located in ghetto west Philly....I found this ghettoness waaaayy better than the ghettoness of the college I've attended during my freshmen year. The food...wasn't that great....but I had a great time socializing and networking with a carload of students! Talk about sports! Penn doesn't have those typical "sissy" kind of sports team like Harvard and Princeton does. Penn's basketball team kicks a$$..and in fact went to NCAA championship rounds. Our rival ...that Ivy school in New Jersey...also has a reputable basketball team...and we love to compete with them!! Penn's athletics CAN compete with Div IA teams....well...not on every sports....but most sports. I'd wish UPenn could be called Ben Franklin University...or something else. I hate it when my friends back home think I attend Penn State...and get jealous over the football team making it to the Orange Bowl!! I'm quite disgusted with that matthewBUTTman below had to say in his discriminatory statement criticizing the Asian student body at Penn...since I'm Korean-American. Students like him (if he really is one) spoil the reputation for UPenn and should be tied, gagged and sent down the Delaware River. Penn also has a lot of organizations various students could join...whether it's a hiking club....chess club....your ordinary frats/soririties...or accounting association! Lastly, Penn also has a lot of Natl Merit Scholars....prob. second or third to Harvard & Yale in the Ivy League!

Good academics, but more oriented toward grad than undergrad education--Horrible neighborhood

The only Ivy Leauge universities that actually feel like "real" universities (University of Oxford)" are Penn, Yale and Princeton. Penn, Yale and Princeton are the only one's that have that English-Gothic look. Penn is also America's First University founded by Benjamin Franklin. It has the first medical school in the Nation as well as the world's first collegiate buisness school. The world's first computer was created at Penn and it has the Nation's first hospital as well as the oldest Psychology Department. Although Harvard has a big name, but it has ugly architecture. Harvard is very plan, puritan and colonial; not as beutiful as the WASPy Penn, Yale and Princeton. Harvard also feels like a town I grew up in. I wanted the feel of a university, not a town. Except for a few jews and Asians, Penn is one of the best universities in the world. Also, Penn is ranked 3rd place after Harvard, Princeton and Yale (2006, US News and World...)

Undergraduate engineering education is among the best.

It has a bad location but is top notch.

Terrible school, only has Wharton to back it up.
Wavebacker 12/11/2004
Penn is a very good Ivy League school, one of the better ones of the Eight Ivies. It should probably be called Wharton University because , to be honest, outside of the Northeast, when people hear the name Penn they think of Joe Paterno and Penn State and educated people first think of The Wharton school of Business.

I V League.

I am a graduate of Penn, so my opinion may be slightly biased. Overall, Penn is a fantastic institution that offers one of the best educations in the US. It may not be Harvard or Princeton, but it's still 100% Ivy!

Despite its location in W Philly, the area is clean compared to other ghetto colleges I've been to. Plus, Penn is the only Ivy school where pretty chics actually exists. The students are friendly, as well as the staff. Small compact campus, and great high-rise dorms. No other Ivies can beat Penn's competition.

Philly is a great, alive, and bustling town. What better place to have the oldest and arguable the best University in the country? Penn isn't in a rough neighborhood and anyone who thinks it is simply doesn't know Philly. One of the best educations money can buy and doors open in any direction you choose.

Segregated school. Unless you want to only associate with your own type (Jewish, Chinese, Black, WASP, etc.), you'll absolutely hate it here. The campus sucks, and the people aren't that smart!

Best preparation for a career on Wall Street at Wharton. Extensive liberal arts curriculum to boot.

Very Good School.

Great academics and fun!!!

If you want big bucks go here, if you want really big bucks don't - Penn molds you into an army of common-thinkers.
sethw100 01/05/2001
This school is amazing!!! I have friends in other top Ivy league schools but from what I can tell this is the BEST. It truly is the social ivy. Not only are the kids really smart and hard working but they all know how to have a great time
JanieNaCl 12/16/2000
Penn provides a perfect mix of top-notch academics with well-rounded, intelligent students who also know how to kick back and have fun!
bmn@10486et 09/06/2000
Penn is the absolute academic laughingstock of the Ivies. It's in an urban wasteland, to boot.
lamp5160om 03/15/2000
Penn is the best Ivy League School, though many focus on the others. The facilities, faculty, student life and location cannot be matched by any institution in the world. Judith Rodin, Penn's impressive president, has taken the venerable institution to new heights!

I LOVE TO HATE THIS SCHOOL!!!

One of the only drawbacks is that it is in kind of a rough neighborhood.

For the most well rounded education, Penn is hard to beat.

Great college atmosphere in the middle of a busy city! Tons to do both on and off campus.
