The professors at this university are uniformly excellent. And, compared to other pricey universities, students might actually get some bang for their buck. Vanderbilt has state-of-the-art facilities and has been luring in the best people for some time. They are also generous when it comes to scholarships (I couldn't have attended without it). Nearly all the students I became friends with were on a scholarship of some sort. The downside is the sense of entitlement - especially conservative Republican "white-men-are-oppressed" entitlement - some students enjoy displaying. The university has made some strides in the area of gay rights, but it really needs to work on presenting an image beyond that of spoiled Southern white kids getting ready to work for Daddy. Plenty of smart students are at this school, but you'd never know it with all the Greek puking.

With the implosion of Duke in 2006, capped by the departure of thirty of its finest faculty, Vanderbilt can now boast the finest faculty of any college in the South. Having excellent scholarship programs and proximity to the heart of Nashville (even if it is the "Vander-Bubble") are added bonuses. Vanderbilt deserves its reputation as a top-20 school, and might even be considered among the top ten.

Could be a 4. Call it a 3.5.

As a student currently attending Vanderbilt University, I am consistently blown away by the talents of my peers, faculty, and the university's administration. The multitude and diversity of events that occur on campus are enough to keep any student entertained. Although Vanderbilt has been a highly conservative campus in yesteryear, a recent influx of liberalism has brought on a movement to reverse the trend. Vanderbilt's location just minutes from downtown Nashville gives students the flexibilty to spend a night on the town or remain on the campus we affectionately call the Vanderbubble. What other school boasts being ranked a Top 20 Academic, Top 25 Party, highly competitive in the SEC in most sports, with both men's and women's basketball teams making it to the Sweet Sixteen?

Expensive little Republican school. Nashville is great, though.
