This is a great school if you are interested in Entrepreneurship, Cleantech and Energy, Corporate Social Responsibility. The students are top notch and the location is unbeatable. Access to Silicon Valley, SF, the bay area and Berkeley's 30,000 outstandinng students

Pros: -Some professors very good. -Weather is nice during spring and summer. In the fall and winter it rains and gets cold. -Good grad school. -Bay area has lots of good jobs. Cons: -Not very good networking opportunities compared to a good private university. -Overcrowded classes due to budget problems. -Many classes taught by visiting professors from mediocre schools (caliber of class much lower). -Not worth it for out of staters (massive tuition hikes recently) -Housing situation is terrible. South and East are basically slums and even though North and West are nicer, all the rooms you find will be ridiculously priced, 500+ for a single room with shared bathroom and if you're lucky a kitchen. And most renting houses are run down. I am an out of state senior and I seriously wished I had never gone to Berkeley. It is seriously an over-rated school with large classes and many mediocre professors. I study the book in many of my classes instead of attending slow plodding lectures. There are some very good professors and you should seek them out especially if you intend to go to grad school, but they seem fairly rare to me (maybe one out of every four classes). Berkeley is good at research but they're so many people getting a position anywhere is fairly difficult. Its really a poor value for out of staters since it costs more than the ivies and provides none of the social comforts and networking opportunities even. Beware.

Berkeley is NOT a hippie university despite the free speech movement and 60s protests. 40% of the student body is asian. What? Are all these asians and smart kids hippies? The 60s leftovers you see are mostly people living in the town and selling 60s trinkets to tourists like tonythebomb along Telegraph Ave. It's a highly rated business school. The overall University is the most highly rated public university in the country.

This program has enormous potential, but it is difficult for it to achieve that potential in its environment. Increasingly, too, academia is being implying that detachment from reality is a major value.

Great place to learn and conduct research. Most diverse population. Most beautiful campus. No place like Berkeley.
