Great City, Solid Netwrok, Excellent University and Business Program! UT Business Honor Program (BHP) is as good as Wharton, Harvard and Stanford!

My experience at the McCombs School of Business at UT-Austin has been superb. An excellent reputation in the fields of finance/real estate and accounting, combined with a good reputation among recruiters (people here are getting good jobs and internships even in the tough economy), reasonable tuition, and fabulous Austin location, should put UT at the top of anyone's MBA "short list." My only complaint comes from the fact that it is a large, state-supported school and as such, the red tape and bureaucracy can be maddening at times.

The best way that I know to evaluate an MBA Program is by the quality of its graduates. I have been impressed by the graduates that I have met of this program - the majority seem to be sharp, driven, and without a lot of the "god's gift to the world" / Prima Donna attitude of some of the elite programs. Friends of mine who have attended UT Austin have said that the professors are strong, that Austin is a great place to study, and that the International Program is suprisingly good.

UT Austin is a terrific school for many reasons, namely (1)Austin (a wonderful place to both live and work); (2)Resources (a large state university with class size large enough to justify providing the best facilities); (3)Faculty (most have very relevant real-world experience, not just some Ph.D. with a lot of theoretical understanding); (4)People (I genuinely liked my classmates); (5)Real-World educational opportunities (since Austin is such a high-tech startup hotbed there are many practicum, internship, part-time, etc. opportunities). Now, lest you think all is rosy, there is a real reason UT is Top 20 and not Top 10 and that is the fact that it is a state institution. It is governed by the State of Texas and its legislature and this often leaves the well-intentioned MBA administration and faculty wringing their hands because of an inability to get things done (e.g. raise tuition to support better facilities, alter basic institution policies, pay faculty what they could get at private MBA programs, etc.) Overall, UT is an excellent choice - especially if you actually are a TX state resident!

An excellent education, a great bargain among the Top 20 business schools, and a fantastic city, Austin, to live in for 2 years.
