Poor customer service, tech help makes basic mistakes, stupid activation fee charges for going from 768 to 1.5 - "standard plan" to "standard plan".

100% crap! This has got to be the slowest and most lousy of all providers.

I had at&t worldnet for a few months in 2006 and it was terrible - not to mention that customer service was extremely unhelpful. I ended up cancelling the service in May of 2006 - but at&t continued to deduct money from my bank for the service until June of 2006, despite the fact that I called every month to dispute the charges! When I'd call, they would tell me that I still had service, even though I had already switched to verizon. I was finally validated when one of their incompetent customer service representatives accidentally transferred me to tech support - where the support guy said, "why are you calling us when you cancelled service 10 months ago?" I kept him on the line with the billing department, and that's finally when they admitted that I didn't have service. After two more months of calling, they finally cut me a refund check for $350 - $40 LESS than they owed me. When I called today to ask why they shorted my check, they told me they had subtracted the billing from LAST MONTH (!!!). I had to explain that I shouldn't have been billed, since I HAD NO SERVICE since LAST YEAR. Now they say that they are going to cut me another check... but we'll see how many phone calls that will take. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can do??

What little experience I had with this ISP was terrrible. You address had to be like 30 characters long and the service was slow. I don't think it is even around any more.
Ruffsta 11/13/2005
yes at&t worldnet internet does really suck! wow, never thought an isp could be so bad! always getting booted offline constantly... the tech support isn't helpful at all... they are all the same and read things from thier stupid manuals TRYING to pretend that they know what the hell they are doing and saying... good thing i'm not a noob to computers! can't wait to get my cable back! hell, i'll even settle for verizon's dsl. note: if yer phone company does accept 3rd party billing then it's time to drop them! i could sit here and probably bitch and complain about at&t all day and night, but it won't do any good unfortunately. in conclusion.... STAY AWAY FROM AT&T WORLDNET INTERNET!!!

I didn't order AT&T worldnet, however, last night I noticed a charge of $16.95 which has been taken out of my checking account monthly for ten months. I can't find a single person to complain to as I cannot access a web site to which I have no E-mail address or password. There are no phone numbers in the USA and the people overseas (which are the only ones you can talk to)have limited information. The phone# attached to the account is bogus. Needless to say I closed the account and cancelled my debt card. Absolutely NO help from AT&T!!!!

Fast, reliable connection for $15 bucks a month is a deal you can't ignore.
phuggue 06/01/2004
Service is okay, but trying to get through to someone in customer service when you have a problem is IMPOSSIBLE. I do not recommend them, even though the service is fairly reliable and relatively quick for a dialup.

I have att and I hate it. I get booted all the time. Have trouble connecting and when I connect it's horrible. And mail that is another story, I'm lucky if I can get it. And customer service is no help. Looking now for a better provider.
Averagejoe54 11/12/2002
It's extremly slow and it kicks you off constantly.

No Nonsense, offers the $16.95 option in the Northeast corridor (max 150 hrs. per month). Easy to change settings, set up new accounts, and not many pop up ads. It's also great to realize that AOL SUBSCRIBERS ARE PAYING $23.95 per month for AOL Internet's advertising.
Freddy-35 09/30/2001
I used AOL for years. After switching to Worldnet unlimited plan (approx. $20) a few months ago, I found out why the make 56k modems. AT&T's service is fast and I hardly ever get knocked off.

I've had a pretty good experience with WorldNet overall. What has stood out is the customer service I've received. You can call for help and actually talk to a real person within five minutes or so, and that real person is knowledgeable and can answer your questions! My only complaint is that lately I've been booted off a few times, probably twice a week or so. That just started, and I'm hoping it won't continue. If it does, I'll just call and talk to them about it.

At&T needs to stick to being a phone company, because their internet service is extremly bad and terrible. It's extremly slow and it kicks you off constantly.
ElwayLite 01/24/2001
i use the 4.95 service and it has been perfect...no probs and ya cant beat 4.95 a month for 150 hours..i would recommedn this to anyone, and the customer service online is awesome as far as you account goes.
athos 10/18/2000
They know where you live. They know who you call. They know where you go online. They know what you watch on TV. All of this is bad. The CIA has a smaller file on you than they do. They know too much about our personal lives.

Besides being a corporation that screws over third world countries, there is frequently server delays and useless links, confusing set-up.

One positive aspect of AT&T Worldnet that is unavailable with service providers such as Mindspring, Earthlink, or AOL is the ability to use a non-Worldnet e-mail address as your sending address. For example, I work for a small company that did not have a mail server for a while, and I needed to switch providers from Mindspring to AT&T in order to send e-mail that appeared like it was originating at my company. This may not sound like a big deal, but if you are working for a little company that needs to appear legitimate, you don't want to be sending work emails from your home email address.

When it is working, it is fine. However, I frequently get bumped off, and at busy times it is very slow. I would expect better of AT&T.
Wiggum 06/16/2000
I've been using WorldNet for 2-3 years now, and my experience has been mixed. The connection is generally good, I almost never get a busy signal, and I don't get kicked off very often. That being said, I made the mistake of NOT signing up for their unlimited plan (about $21). Instead, I got the $10 plan that gave me a certain number of hours per month at that price, then charged me about $1 for each extra hour. Unknowingly, I went way over my limit one month and ended up with a staggering bill. Granted, it was my fault for not being more vigilant, but it pissed me off nonetheless. Couldn't AT&T send out an e-mail when you reach your limit? I'm sure they would say "no," since they make so much money when people exceed the limit. But that fails to take into account the fact that pissed-off customers are free to migrate to Earthlink or NetZero. I'm sticking with AT&T for now because of the quality, but one more big problem and I'm bolting.

I rate this service with a 2 because their service is very costly. I actually owe them $600 for a month's service which is ridiculous since I didn't use it that much.
Munson 05/02/2000
Works fine, but I don't get the high price tag.

They have helped me efficiently and effectively whenever I needed help and they showed me how to use their service without having to use their software! Plus, they offer 60 Meg of web space (with use of all 6 e-mail accounts they offer you) WITHOUT pop up ads or other annoyances on your webpages!
deja1730om 11/27/1999
AT&T worldnet is a terrible internet service provider. They transfer you or give you another number to call when you call customer service. I found their techies unable to help with problems. I could never get connected to their service, and then, when I canceled within the first week...they billed me anyway...and the first month was supposed to be FREE. It took me 3 phone calls to get the charges dropped.
prai989et 11/11/1999
Aside from a slow response to a growing subscriber base, leading to slow connect times, I have no complaints.
