Put a story on the internet, no matter what it is, and you will get people swearing to its veracity. Personally I've always found this particular clause in the constitution one of its greatest conceits, particularly in a nation that has gathered immense strength from the quality of the immigrants who have sought to make America their home. The place of birth does not give any special cachet to a politician, nor does it denigrate it.

There's lots of speculation in the internet over whether Obama was truly born in Hawaii or not. Various lawsuits have been filed in state and federal courts that initially tried to get the Electoral College to invalidate the results of the election because Obama has not been produce his actual legal birth certificate from the Hawaiian state government. Obama's people during the campaign produced a birth certificate, but it was only a "live" birth certificate, not legally binding. Many purport that there is a conspiracy amidst to hide Obama's true origins. Some claim that Obama was actually born in a hospital in Mombasa, Kenya, thus making him a legally a natural born citizen of the British Empire (Kenya was a British colony at the time). There is circumstantial evidence suggesting that this is the case, as Obama's grandmother claimed earlier last year that Obama was actually born in Kenya. However, no substantive, tangible proof has been generated to support this claim. Now there are separate claims that have been filed by individuals suggesting that Obama is not a legal citizen of the United States, as some claim that he revoked his citizenship when he left the United States for Indonesia when he was 6 years old. When he returned to the US, he again became a US citizen, thus making him a naturalized citizen and therefore ineligible to be President. I'm not too sure about the details, but I think that Obama actually had dual citizenship while he was in Indonesia, thus making his eligible.Nevertheless, the people pushing these lawsuits haven't been able to gain much traction, and they haven't been able to coordinate their efforts effectively. Not much will come out of this.
