Never been sure what all the hype around the RABBIT books was about. After seeing rave reviews, I tried reading RABBIT, RUN and found it to be as interesting as watching paint dry.

One of the finer American writers of the latter part of the 20th century. He wrote some excellent novels, but my personal favorite of his is this essay written early in his career, which represents one of the finest pieces of baseball writing ever set in type. Its called "Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu" and here it is.http://www.baseball-almanac.com/articles/hub_fans_bid_kid_adieu_article .shtml

I know Updike is an important literary figure, but I haven't read much from him. I know the English majors around the country are in mourning, but this only hits me as the loss of an important name. There is no personal connection with Updike for me.
