Now known as Verizon online, this Internet Service Provider is the typical big bureaucratic do nothing provide no service type company one might expect of a telephone company. I have ADSL service and am paying for their gold package which is supposed to be 768kbps. I'm getting on average about 100kbps and have had no success whatsoever in getting through to the boneheads in their tech support. These people are nothing more than message takers and, until recently, could not even pass you on to someone who has a least a reasonable semblance of technical expertise. Being technical myself, its difficult to put up with such incompentence. In addition, I decided that I wanted to host a website using my DSL. In order to do that I need a static IP address. The wonderfull tech support told me I needed to be a business account in order to get a static IP. I promptly called the number they refered me to and requested to be changed to a business account. A few days later I got my static IP's and all should have been well, right? Not so! Still experiencing slow connections, I call the tech support number again. The lady there informs me that I now have 2 accounts, one residential and one business, both provisioned on the same DSL telephone number. She speculates that may be part of my problem and suggested that I cancel the residential account. I was reluctant to do this for fear of losing connectivity all together. She assured me that that would not happen, so with her on the line, I spoke with the customer service dept and had them cancel the account. The tech support lady then transferred me to another dept to continue to troubleshoot the slow connectivity. While talking to the new dept, I was informed that my account had just dissappeared before his eyes! And of course, I had not connectivity whatsoever! 4 hours later, they were able to my DSL back on, but again with slow speed. As I type this, I am on hold with a supervisor in their tech support trying to resolve this. As you can tell by the length of this comment, he's left me on hold for quite some time. In summary, GTE Internet aka Verizon Online couldn't sucks!

A top tier company....contention is not an issue. Only problem is inability to market itself.
