When TWC's Road Runner works, it is great, but have a problem that isn't a quick fix and you will spend hours, days, weeks and months attempting to get ANYONE at TWC to actually HELP with the situation. It has been FOUR MONTHS of intermittent internet service and probably close to 20 service calls without any change in the issue. They send independent contractors who don't know more than rudimentary fixes and it that doesn't work, they leave you experiencing the same problem. I even had one service tech who came and when I said it was an intermittent connection issue, he said it was working fine and LEFT WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING!!! Dolt - do we not KNOW what INTERMITTENT MEANS??? So, should you have no problems crop up as I have, you will love the speed of TWC's Road Runner internet. If you have any odd issues, I warn you, it will be months and months of dealing with customer service, service techs and the results will drive you insane, which may be what they are going for...I don't know yet, but I can tell you it has made me crazy with the frustration and aggravation of dealing with them over and over and over and over...

Ok, I just posted a really bad review about AT&T DSL, and thought i'd write the complete opposite for Time Warner Cable Internet. I am your average consumer that uses internet for downloading music, movies, playing the occasional geek game over the internet, nothing too fancy!! I've had roadrunner for almost a total of 3 1/2 years now, decided i'd try AT&T DSL, well if you want to read about that you can check it out, but Time Warner is the best. I called and was so upset about AT&T, Time Warner came out to my apartment in about 4 hours, hooked up my Cable Internet, tested it to make sure everything was A-Ok, and it's been running beautifully ever since. I'm a resident in Austin, TX, I know everyone gets different results based on how far away they are from a server, but I get the speeds i'm promised and then some, I have yet to have to power down my modem and reset anything. The ISP provider is Earthlink through Time Warner. I'm sorry I ever switched. Pick AT&T and you'll be talking to someone in India, pick Time Warner and you'll be talking to someone right down the street from you. Choose Wisely!!!!

Road Runner is a colossal waste of a technology. Why would you go through all the effort of cable lines, modems, high speed and barely break 56k speeds? Just seems like a lot of overhead for very little returns.

The internet is down AT LEAST every other day for 30 minutes to 6+ hours. I'm only home and awake 4-5 hours a day!! When you finally do get through to "Mike" in India for tech support he just says wait, reboot router, cable modem, pray, etc and keep you on the line for 45 minutes, then it starts working on its own and you can hear the Benny Hill music playing as he skedaddles off the phone.

And if they do happen to send a crew out to fix cables or whatever, they use a lot of duct tape, bailing wire and chewing to get it going just good enough for them to leave. The last guy was so stoned he left a huge spool of coaxial cable. Still got it, called and told "Mike" about it, but he didn't seem to care.

Absolutely the worst mistake I made was moving somewhere that only had Time-Warner

Time Warner Road Runner internet service is the WORST I have encountered. It is SLOWER than my dial-up was. We call it "Road Crawler" instead of Road Runner. I have had many problems with it such as being unable to access my email, being unable to access the breakdown of my long distance calls on line, and a variety of other problems that just keep popping up from time to time. Unfortunately, we signed a two year contract for cable, internet and phone. They don't even send you a hard copy of your long distance calls. How do I KNOW they are not over-charging me for calls when I can't obtain the break down of long distance calls on line because they either change the address for it and don't notify you of the address change, or my computer warns me that that site could cause problems for my computer and NOT to enter it? As far as the cable is concerned, how can you watch a program when the voice goes out or the picture turns into a bunch of little squares and the squares keep changing over and over again? When I called for service to get rid of the "little square," we had to wait for eight days (with no cable) for them to get here to see what the problem was. They "fixed it" and two days later the "little squares" appeared AGAIN! I think we "only" waited five days for them to return. I can't wait for this contract with them to end!

Citizens in the North Carolina regions, I urge you to NOT purchase RoadRunner services. I have had this service for 3 years. $40-60 a month is not worth the current condition of the service these people provide. The connection speed is generally about 70% of what is offered. I am supposed to have about 8 MBPS and never clock higher than 6750 KBPS. Often times the service is down. At least once a day and the time down can range from 1 minute to 5 or more hours. The upload speed is also horrible. 375 KBPS is just.. Unacceptable! Not only that but they do not support Net Neutrality. I don't know about you, but I want my freedom to browse, game, and do business online!

The horrible Tech Support they "provide" is incapable of fixing any problems. I've been calling them for well over 6 months to get the internet that I pay for stabilized.

All-In-All, 6 MBPS with a downtime of 20% is horrible. People, get Dial-Up instead. It's far more stable. Slower, but stable.

[I support Net Neutrality:]

Wow look at all the Road Runner/Time Warner issues!

Random disconnections throughout the day everyday.
SLOW speeds for the price.
Their call center wait times are terrible.

If you have the luxury of **CHOICE** with your internet provider, pick something else. Road Runner is such a headache for people who work at home/game/download/use the internet at all.

Road Runner is an oxy moron. There are many times when it is slow. And at least once a month when we cannot connect at all. This last period of time....we had no service from 9/19/08 to 9/22/08. No one can come out until 9/23/08. Made me pick up a new modom at their office. That did nothing. It's now, very mysteriously, working. They do one of two things. Hope that it the service is back on so they won't have to send out a tech or they are PURPOSELY limiting our time on line. Either way.........ROAD RUNNER SUCKS. We had Adelphia cable internet for years with no problem. Since there is a monopoly...we have NO CHOICE. Another small way the consumer is being screwed in this economy. I really give Road Runner 0 stars but it's making me choose at least one star.

BE PREPARED
When I signed up for 'The best of the best" or all 3 services phone ,TV and Internet I was not told it would take 10 days to get phone service. We just moved and it makes it difficult for us. Yes , we have cells but we needed to have a home number for other reasons. Supposedly it's SPRINT that can't provide a phone number. Sprint through Time Warner.
Internet works good SO FAR.

Horrific. 60% of the time I'm using the Internet (TW RoadRunner SoCal), I feel like I want to upgrade to dial-up/56K. It's running at a crawl most of the time. Pages won't load, hit refresh 10 times, "Loading" for 5 minutes, then you get a Timeout/page load error. Can't ping anything. I've had RoadRunner for 5 years. Family hasn't upgraded. Connection drops dead every other day for 30mins to several hours. Hope to get DSL and pray that Verizon FiOS will expand their coverage wipe out the "competition."
Not worth $50 a month, maybe $15 a month is a more reasonable price for what you have to deal with.

OK I'm also stuck with TW/RR the worst Internet I have ever used! I think they try to guess who is using torrents, if your always downloading ...must be on a torrent...throttle back! Then if you call
in 45 to 50 minutes later they transfer you to the next tier of support. You end up after 1 1/2 hours on tier 3 where they tell you nothing is WRONG! So then I say all the people around me have the same problem? Then the brain dead person on the phone tells me maybe it's my modem? (it's the junk modem from them they make me use!) Then I tell them again ...it's not just me it's all of us? They tell me again it's MY MODEM!
Then I say ... OK so my DAM MODEM RUNS ALL OF COSTA MESA? YOU BRAIN DEAD J/A! They throttle for gaming?
is it that they are soooooo stupid they think gaming is torrenting? If you can use anyone else DON'T USE TW/RR! ...My speeds 100/kbs down 12/kbs up (when they throttle) I pay for 10,000/kbs 1,000/kbs, and it does hit that speed until you try to use it!

Roadrunner randomly dies and you have to call them to ask what the hell is going on. After a few minutes of their crap (asking what computer you use, Windows or Mac, etc) they finally ask for your router number, and then seconds later your internet works!
I've been using Roadrunner since November 2004, and I've had to go through this AT LEAST every month. I'd switch but there is no other ISP that provides internet here.

RoadRunner is horrible for what you pay, and for those of us in Charlotte, NC, it's really our only choice. Websites load fairly quickly, but when downloading anything the average speed is no better than dial-up. Also, the service regularly drops and I have to restart my router - at least 4 - 5 times a week.

I haven't contacted TWC to complain as it doesn't seem to matter, but here's the irony - they just spent ??? millions per year to gain the naming rights to our new uptown arena. Maybe they should be spending that money on improving their actual product.

Well, the fact that Road Runner (A.K.A. Timer Warner) was on board with the idea of not supporting Net Neutrality really pi**ed me off nice and good. However, what really got me nice and mad, was the fact that they actually want to make customers pay a fee for how much bandwidth they use every month. They're already implementing this somewhere in Texas as a,"Test.". However, I'm sure they're get their greedy lil a**es to make everyone else have to do the same thing sooner or later. What do I rate Road Runner? Ha. Well, I give it a two at the very least. Connections good and stable most of the time, but their ideal of business and giving their customers a good deal... Well, that policy of theirs is total bullshit. In fact, so much that I just may consider switching to a new ISP should Road Runner consider making me pay a fee for using bandwidth. Yep, so whomever controls the tube gets to set forth the policies for it, right? Well, all I can say is that that's bad business and you're not going to keep customers that way.

I use (or tolerate) Road Runner in the metro Charlotte NC area and the absolutely SUCK. The connect speed, both upload and down, is 1/10 what you would expect from a cable provider. Check out http://www.dslreports.com/stest and check for yourself. Not only does their network SUCK, their customer service and billing SUCK. Even AFTER pissing me off over their crappy broadband service, these guys actually messed up my credit rating over a crappy $69 TV box. If you have ANY choice at all, don't do business with Time Warner Cable. They SUCK.

AWFUL internet service provider!

I pay $60 a month for a "8mbp/756" connection, when I get 6900mbps/625(upload) - ridiculous. Pages load fairly fast (they don't load as quickly as they appeared with my other ISPs in the past), but download speeds are 150-300kbps/sec. That's nearly as bad as dial-up. A 5MB file takes me approximately 10 seconds to download. It SHOULD take 1-2 seconds, as that's the speed that I'm supposively paying $50 a month for. It's not that I'm greedy, but it's the fact that I'm paying (FIFTY-DOLLARS) for it, when you can get the same speeds with AT&T for less than HALF the price.

Their homepage sucks, and their free "security" software is so crappy & totally slows down your computer/internet 80%, no matter what configs you have on your PC. Their e-mail interface also sucks, with a 500MB inbox, and they barely offer any benefits other than a free crappy dial-up service (who needs that?) Customer service is fair, compared to other companies, but it takes almost 20 minutes to finally get a hold of someone.

I hate this company so much. It sickens me that I'm stuck with them, as nothing else is offered in this town. Screw you, Time (Waster) Cable.

Absolutely terrible.

Forcing to switch from Comcast to Road Runner, I was completely disappointed in what RR had to offer. You start out with about 4mbp download, and 312kbp upload. That's pretty bad when you're paying the same price as you did with Comcast.

I recently upgraded my RR account to "premium" which is supposively 8mps/512kbps. I have yet not seen a difference.

I finally switched to an online service offered by my wireless carrier. It's slow, but it's a whole lot more worth it than paying $60 for that garbage! I'll make sure I move to somewhere that offers Comcast the next time I move.

RR is my only option for high speed, but I wish I had another. There online e-mail interface is primitive, and they haven't upped there allowable storage space in years (even though memory is less than 10% of the price it was when I signed up), so if I get a bunch of spam when I don't check for a couple of days, RR is kicking my mail back with a "box full" message.

8/23/07= Internet connection started dropping every 20 minutes. Also
causes VoIP to drop calls. Used cell phone to call customer service.
After being on hold for an hour was told to trade my modem in myself or
wait a week before a tech could bring one by.

9/4/07= Went in to local customer service center. Traded modem for a
new one.

9/5/07= Still having internet drop offs every 20 minutes.

9/6/07= Called in and waited on hold for 50 minutes, set up a service
call for 9/8/07 between the hours of 8am-12pm.

9/8/07= No sign of Tech. Tech (1735) finally showed up at 1:15pm. Tech
found problem with outside tap and put in an order for contractor to
repair.

9/18/07= No word regarding repair status, internet still dropping every
20 minutes. Called in and was on hold for hour and a half. After being
transferred 2 times, phone rep stated no records of any problems or
previous visits. They refused to believe everything I had documented
(tech number, job number, tech notes) and stated a tech needed to come
out (again). Set up appointment for 9/22/07 between 9am-12pm.

9/22/07= Tech (7196) showed up at 9am. Determine that problem was from
the outside tap and put in an order for contractor to repair. (sound
familiar?) Tech stated contractor would be out before 5pm that day to
repair. Tech left and no contractor showed up. In addition, cable TV
not working on the cable box. Internet still dropping every 20 minutes.
Called in and spent 1 hour on hold. Was told no record of anyone being
out and a tech would have to come out again. Was transferred and on
hold another 1 hour and 45 minutes until my cell phone battery died.

Time Warner / AOL / Road Runner has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I had my service physically unplugged by a tech in order to plug my neighbror in. Seven missed appointments and numerous called to customer service later and I am still without internet. This is the second time this month. Customer service says that I can't talk to a supervisor that one will have to call me back, never happened. Dispatch does not call back either. If I had not paid for service in advance I would switch carriers. Stay away from this company, if you ever have problems you will get nothing but lies and empty promises.

They do not credit you for the downtime either. Honestly... of every ten times I try to get online in the evening, seven of those times it is down. When calling service they always want to send someone out to look at your modem but I know full well that the problem is with them working on the system at night and not the modem. They just don't want to admit that the problem is on their end. I'm thinking of going with DSL .... slower but at least it will be on when I need it.

I've been sitting on hold for 45 minutes at 1am trying to ask why I have been having SAME LATENCY ISSUE that 'rrstinks' is having. Except that my connection drops about 8 or 9 times a day. Started happening about 1 year ago but has gotten insanely bad in last 2 months. Techs have replaced cable modems, drop wires and much more and nothing has even helped.
Probably because, and I told them this, this is likely a SERVER ISSUE and some 6 figure moron needs to get of his 3 martini 2 hour lunch to fix the problem! My life is I.T. and I know what Jackasses are sometimes employed in high ranking IT positions who couldn't tell you the difference between hexidecimal and binary! Still on hold... Road Runner 1

Speaking as an it professional with close to 13 years of extensive experience in a wide spectrum of the industry, from hardware/software service, to system administration, network administration, web development, and have focused for a number of years on IT security. I had road runner broadband service installed in my residence in the middle of april 2007. the installer informed me at that time, that there were issues resulting from the recent storms, and speeds were around 100kb, as opposed to 2-3 mbit. after a week, and still speeds at or below 100kb, i attempted to contact support. the installer had never left any paperwork, not even an account number. The online support was less than helpful, and refused to talk to me. After several attempts, i was finally able to get online support to assist me. Several more contacts, and the issue was escalated, and agreed that there was a problem, although it was denied that there had been a problem in this area. I spoke with a level 3 engineer, and he agreed there was an issue. A tech was scheduled. He arrived and told me, that there were still problems in this area. And that speed were still in the 100kb range. But mysteriously and miraculously, the speeds jumped while he was here to over 2.3mbit. That speed stayed for a few days, then dropped back to where it had been. This issue has dragged on and on and is going on a month. To me it is unbelievable that there can be such a lack of communication, and denial that there is a problem. This area is experiencing an enormous amount of latency, and then mysteriously it goes away, but then returns. The level 3 engineer admitted that there were some hops that were having problems, but almost a month, and its worse than ever. My last speedtest, at the request of an rr tech, produced a result of 35kbit...slower than dialup. this is not a problem? I have continuous scans coming from rr customers, and needless to say, all of my computers are heavily secured, including preventing the scans that rr does on its customers. While that is understandable in the prevention of illegal file sharing. were there a problem at my location, the speeds would not burst at rare points nor would they be sustainable, and the latencies drop to normal within the route at this point, i feel that there are several dialup providers that could provide me with more bandwidth than i am receiving right now. Waiting 10-15 seconds for google to load is almost laughable. i am a very patient person, but this has passed the point of being ludicrous. from scouring the blogs, and consumer sounding boards, there seem to be a lot of problems that "dont exist" I have multiple computers on my internal network, and this bandwidth problem is consistent with the connection state at any given time. The throughput on one machine is within a tolerance of a few kbit. i am at my wits end with this, and needs a reliable connection. I have accumulated a large number of speedtests, including dusting off my bandwidth logging/monitor that collects statistics on throughput. This is a simple problem it would seem, but one that i am getting no results with. Perhaps posting this identical post on every blog and consumer sounding board that i come across, as well as urging other mistreated customers to do, may in fact jolt road runner into a proactive action im including a few speedtest results as well all from speedtest.net the timewarner speed test was even slower. speedtest.net/result/125098441.png speedtest.net/result/125125713.png speedtest.net/result/125124802.png speedtest.net/result/125115335.png this one was quite interesting, as it was done approximately 2 minutes after i received an inbound dns query to my honeypot, from level3 net , one of the slow pokes in the route speedtest.net/result/125119674.png so if these and the many more that i have are not indicative of a serious problem in the service, then i must be ready for the men in the white suits.

Road Runner is by far the worst service ever. My internet works 41% of the time (that is the number time warner quoted me), and when it does work it is slow. Time warner knows I have this problem, and have known for 6 months. I have had a dozen service tech's out (Late 9/12 times, did not even show up 2/14 times) and the problem is still not fixed. Now I want to cancel. They give me a number to call to cancel, I call this number on 30 different days, get an answering machine each time, leave a message saying that I want to cancel each time. Time warner continues to bill me over these 2 months. Finally after cursing out thier answering machine they call me back and tell me that I have been calling the wrong number to get disconected. I call the new number and get disconnected but they won't refund the 2 months that I had been calling to get disconnected. I talk to a number of different managers none of whom will refund my last two months. I would like to file a law suit against them for 1) charging me for a service that they knew I was not receiving as advertised 2) Taking two months to tell me who to call to get my service disconnected. Does anyone know if I would win?

When it is working it is fast, but when it is not (and that is often) it crashes and slows down.

time warner sux, unless u work for them or r close to someone who is with them then time warner in general i awful. u realize they dont compare themselves with dsl only with dial-up which most dont use anymore. they also always r having to offer specials not to mention theyve yet to win awards for customer satisfaction. overall time warner's products suck and they offer lil in customer satisfaction even going as far to CHARGE ppl to fix their own service. sorry but ill stick with dsl where im actually not charged to get my inet fixed not to mention the fact time warner's seems to die at least once every week, while i can b on dsl for months and have the same number of crashes in months as time warner has a wk. time warner = poor service who charge to repair their own crappy service. 1 is too good for the liars and cheaters at time warner.
