I've had hamsters, rats and a ferret! The hamsters were fun to watch roll around in their mobile see through balls but other than that didnt really play. My rats were fun to watch play with each other and loved to be carried on my shoulder and be played with. My ferret was like a puppy that never grew up and enjoyed getting into everything and anything but also had a sweet personality. Execpt you have to be very careful when playing with ferrets because at times they tend to get rough and bite and not let go! Plus you have to keep them in a good well ventilated area because they tend to smell ALOT if enclosed!! They need a lot of toys because they will get into ANYTHING! They can make a shoe or a box the coolest hideout/hangout ever!! Very entertaining to watch!! Not good for small children tho. For small kids I'd recommend a young rat. They make good pets, are clean and affectionate despite theyre ucky appearance to some adults!! And their tails arent that yucky! Believe me I was a little hesitant with their tails at first but afterwards I loved touching their tails!! DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT!! Have a ferret and another small pet like a hamster or rat in the same household!! I've heard the most terrifying stories of Ferrets killing rats and shredding hamsters to pieces and them leaving them as presents for their owners!! Remember Ferrets ARE CARNIVOROUS!!

I inherited a Guinea Pig from someone and I like him. He was nervous at firtst but now he is way more used to people. He squeaks for food a lot, but it is better yhan the Yorkie we have that barks all the time.

I think they look like fat mice. I exterminate ground squirrels on contract and one time I was down in Maine doing a job. I exterminated one of these Guinea Pig varmints and it turned out to be the owner's kid's pet. I didn't get paid for the whole job and the kid threw a tantrum so bad that he became almost unconscious.

I love my piggy!!! Casper is a American Piggy and is a true albino. He is so sweet and I love him..okay his cage smells but there are ways to get around that..like frequent cleanings. He is wonderful with the children. He does require attention and does week when he hears a bag crinkle..minor things! Some people say that piggy pigs stink but a nice warm bath with some baby shampoo will do the trick every once and awhile! Make sure you get a dry towel after you dry him/her off and cuddle him/her until they are warmed back up. I LOVE PIGGIES!!

Guinea pigs can be messy and annoying. When I was a kid I had one (a short-haired one) that my father began to feed coffee and bread at the breakfast table. The animal developed a taste for this kind of breakfast. then, around the Christmas holidays (I told you it was when I was a kid and Christmas was still Christmas, and not some kind of vernal equinox celebration) we started having egg nog for breakfast, and the guinea pig got hooked on egg nog. After the holidays, when my other switched back to coffee, the damne guinea pig didn't want coffee any more, and would run across the table, chattering and sqealing, knocking over our coffee cups. It took a while to break it of the egg nog habit - honestly! Later that year, during the summer, the animal mysteriously disappeared from a cage we kep it in outdoors. I think my grandfather aided and abetted its escape.

I read a story in a magazine about a female biting off her mate's head. That kind of kept me away from them.

I just had to give my guines pigs away. The problem I find with them (especially long-haired ones) is that grooming is hard to maintain. Their hair gets wicked knots. It's also very hard to trim their nails, as most do not like being held on their backs. They're very loveable, but there are far better pets out there.

I'd sooner keep a real pig.

I've got an adorable long-haired guinea pig, and he is very sweet. How could anyone not like a guinea pig?
