Ben Roethlisberger 4

You could say this of almost any SB winning quarterback- but am I the only one who thinks that Big Ben looks better because of his supporting cast more than any QB alive? Yes, he made the big throws when he had to (and Holmes did miss the pass on the play before) and yes, Ben did create some time for himself by waddling around the pocket to buy some time before the big throws. . .but I can't shake the image of Ben being carried by some timely catches, solid offensive line work, and a crushing defense. . .despite all of this, I can't take anything away from that final throw- it was perfect.

I was amazed by how evasive the big guy was in the pocket. It almost looks like he's running in place when he moves his feet, yet he manages to get out of trouble and hit open receivers while on the run. I was impressed by his performance on Sunday.

Roethlisberger certainly doesn't make quarterbacking look good all the time, but the man gets the job done. He did a great job avoiding pressure in the first half, and either throwing the ball away or finding an open man after the play breaks down. He does that just about as well as anybody. He could have really helped the Steelers by pounding the ball in when they settled for field goals twice inside the five yard line. That would have made the James Harrison touchdown icing on the cake, rather than a necessity.
The pass to Holmes at the end of the game was absolutely perfect. Its a pass that could have easily been picked off for thrown way overhead. However, Roethlisberger gave his man a chance, and luckily Holmes is a great enough receiver to make Ben look good.

Compared to his last Super Bowl outing, he was Joe Montana. That being said he was solid, if not spectacular. His guts up drive to win the game was something I wasn't sure he had in him, and he went a long way to convincing me he's the real deal.
