I forgot about Zydeco, which is worth 3 stars at least.

Unfortunately, in the hands of almost anyone else its the clearest evidence I know for the existence of the Anti-Christ.

Although a few years back a bunch of buddies of my daughter started an ironic and short lived "Punk Accordion band" that was pretty funny.

I am partial to Cajun and Mexican music and also you see the instrument in French Canada. Of course, how could you go to an old time country dance with polka, schottische, waltz and other without the accordian?

From the 'Aerophone' family of instruments. Along with concertinas and melodeons, they are "free-reed instruments invented in the first decades of the 19th Century. All have keyboards joined by expandable bellows to drive air over the reeds...used by professional entertainers, (they) are complex instruments capable of playing music in a variety of styles ('Musical Instruments of the World', Bantam Books)."

Some may have considered accordionist Art van Damme's stylish combo as purveyors of cocktail music. This fan recalls his acccomplished performances vividly and with considerable admiration.

When I was about six or so, my mother made me take Accordian lessons. I hated it with a passion. I actually got kind of good at it (my mistake) and was forced to perform at some competition, thank God I lost. What was that woman thinking?

Oh, the poor accordion...I almost feel sorry for it! It's just that bad! Polka, anyone?? No thanks!

The most annoying instrument on earth. The beloved companion of Steve Urkel.

The accordion doesn't sound so bad in itself. But it's just the things it's associated with. When ever I think of accordion music I think; leaderhosen, hillbillies and girl in braids with long skirts and showing a great amount of clevege and serving bear to the men wearing leaderhosens. When I think accordion I think, togheterness, cheerfullness and sazzy spirit. Not something I'm looking for in an instrument.
