Definitely my "go-to" site to download damn near anything. It's reliable, trustworthy and well-organized. I never had a problem with bad files (never know what you'll get when you just go to a random site; could just as easily be loaded with viruses). My big thing is making sure a program is legitimately "free" (not a fan of pirating software; I understand the desire to, but for most of the programs I want there's a freeware version of it), and cnet is always pretty clear on what's free, what's trial/then buy, and what's purchase-only. The reviews for the software tend to be pretty spot-on (very thorough), and the number of available items is impressive.

I use CNET for their downloads section. You get editor reviews, and user reviews of the software available for download. It is hard to find a better or larger resource of actual freeware (they offer all kinds of software, sortable by many factors) that is assuredly virus free and with accurate reviews.

I love the free music download section of the site...you can discover some super cool artists this way. cnet gives I think one free download a day (perhaps per genre of music) and you can download it...even the archived songs. John Legend, alicia keys, maroon 5, chili peppers are on here as well as undiscovered artists.

It seems like just a store disguised as an information site. They seem more concerned about getting you to buy from their partners and advertisers then providing objective info. They do have product stats., so they get 2 stars.

C|net.com has been a good software/hardware solutions site for a good while. I am quite impressed with c|net and it provides great hardware/software reviews and it also had a HUGE library of software for you to download and it has pc reviews, hardware profiles, where to shop, tips on keeping your pc in tip-top shape, the latest updates on filesharing, the latest software downloads. I have downloaded several programs and files off this site and they're pretty reliable, only twice were the files corrupted and they were probably becuase the site didn't update the files to a bug free version or they did not keep track of the files. I have also found the hardware revivews to be quite helpful and they are very professionally done. I found that some of the reviews are better than ZDNet. I also noticed they have more software than zdnet and they find more current software than zdnet. I like the pc recommendations and that was where I made my decsion on what pc to pruchase, dell. the compariso... Read more

The best news source for general news. The subscriptions will fill your email account like maggots if you aren't careful. But, the news stories are thoughful and concise.

Absolutely the best information site for non-technical computer users such as myself.

CNET.com is a good site for general information, shareware, etc. Its resources cover several areas of computing, which gives it better reference and networking possibilities.

The most useful software review (and download) site on the Web. For any questions about what to use for nearly any task, ask CNET.

Sweet site. Definitely come here before you buy any technology products. I sent my girlfriend there to research laptops, and she chose and purchased a model that was perfect for her in about 20 minutes. Prices seem to be very competitive there...
