02/15/2007 | Trumpet is played by too many bastards these days. Piloted by an experienced, well-trained player, it can be one of the most beautiful instruments in existence. Trumpet is also very difficult, and requires a huge amount of dedication and drive to achieve proficiency. Myself a trumpet player, I can tell you how painful it was to sit through my early years, when my piers dishonored the instrument with their crude blasting and rough phrasing. I feel your pain.

05/16/2004 | I played trumpet for 5 years in elementary and middle school and I love the instrument. It really shines in fanfares and in jazz. However, it does not have the versatility that other instruments have.

12/07/2003 | Okay you people think the trumpet is loud and obnoxious. Mostly it is either because the person can't play or their personality is shining through. Yes, have you ever noticed that most trunpet players are the most egocentric people ever? They feel like they have to show off and play loud. I play the trumpet and I'm not like that at all. Ok fine it will sound egocentric to say I sound better than my piers but don't beat up my instrument!

07/21/2003 | Ok, I have to agree with dragon here - I love trumpet! I played it in school bands (concert band, jazz band, honours band) for four years.
I agree it can sound awful when you're first starting out. Mom used to call her sister when I first started out and she'd bring the phone close enough so my aunt could hear me. They had a good laugh at my expense, saying it sounded like "a cow caught in a fence!" They took it back when I made honours band though. :)
It's been a while since I've played, but I've been missing it lately. I think I may join our community band. :)

05/31/2003 | I strongly disagree with all you people who say it is loud and obnoxious! How can you say that when this is one of the pieces that make up the heart of the band. This is the foundation piece, the melody. Whe played correctly this piece can make some great music!

12/29/2002 | I played trumpet for 4 years, and I hated it. Now when I listen to the trumpets in my band play, they sound like screeching birds. Advise your kids, and all kids you know that are thinking about being in band, not to play trumpet.

10/03/2001 | I played the trumpet in middle school, and it is one of the most annoying instruments! It is loud, disgusting, and it is really annoying when your mouth piece gets stuck into the instrument. It is, however, really easy to learn, sorta. I'm giving it a 2.

09/24/2001 | Perhaps I'm prejudiced because I'm an inactive trombone player, but as much as I like trumpets, they can sound so obnoxious and screeching and not nearly as full-sounding as a good trombone. But then again, I love Herb Alpert. And Miles Davis. And Louis Armstrong.
