The actual service gets 2 stars. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes it's slow. Getting the service was a different story! It's the customer service that we rate a 0! (Average makes it 1 star!) When we called to get service set up they said they would be sending us a starter kit in about 5 business days for only $12.95 for shipping. Well, about 8 days went by and we called to find out where the starter kit was. Before getting an answer and being put on hold for 20 minutes, the line was mysteriously disconnected. Don't believe them when they say they need your number to call you back in case you get disconnected...because they don't call you back. The next day we called back and we were told that the kit should have arrived already. They asked for a tracking number, which of course we don't have because they didn't give it to us, and when we told them we didn't have it the rep said "well it should be arriving today." We asked her if she was making that up and she confessed after about 10 seconds of silence! While being transferred to another department, the line was disconnected AGAIN! So we called back AGAIN...not to mention that you have to give the SAME information over and over again each time you call...Well, come to find out we needed to order a modem in order to get a starter kit, so the kit was never sent out. AT&T offered to sell us one for $70 or more. We decided to go buy one from a store instead of waiting another 5 business days. We had to call them back after purchasing our own modem, which took another 2 hours to get it set up. It took about 5 hours of talking on the phone and 2 weeks of waiting just to get the service set up. We thought we were done. BUT...just this morning (about 3 weeks later) we woke up to find our service was not working. We called AT&T internet tech support who walked us through ONE possible solution. When it did not work, the rep said it must be NETGEAR (modem/router brand). AT&T was nice enough to transfer us. Well, when we got on the phone with NETGEAR, they said it was AT&T because we did not have an internet connection. Luckily, NETGEAR was nice enough to walk us through AT&T's steps of re-connecting because I told her how horrible AT&T was. The password that AT&T gave us was wrong, and the password that NETGEAR gave us was correct. Seriously, it's been a hassle. If you want service for a decent price, then AT&T is okay. But if you do not like dealing with horrible customer service, then I DO NOT recommend AT&T for internet!!
