Good hit, no field, but now that he's crossed the magic 500 line in homeruns, hes an assured Hall of Famer, although maybe not on the first ballot.

Apparently a hell of an asset in the dugout and clubhouse, and I suspect a good part of the reason the White Sox are solidly back in the mix

Good-but-not-great player. Solid lifetime .280ish average and 500+ HR's in the era of banjo-parks like Jacob's Field in Cleveland. Average to pedestrian in the field, Thome's a solid player to have in the lineup when healthy. And you hear the right kinds of things about him everywhere- fans liked him in Philly, that speaks volumes. If his defense was a little better and perhaps he got 550+Hr's we might be talking about a HOF lock- but I think he's a borderline case.

The man is God. Seriously he is one of the best and the most down to earth players in baseball.

Thome was adored by the fans of Cleveland and he vowed that he wanted to remain in Cleveland, to retire a Cleveland Indians SO what did he do? Signed a bigger contract in Philly. People say oh he did good things while playing for the Indians, set records..etc. and now you boo him. Yeppers - we boo him. He lied. That is why we boo.

Thome gets injured and now the Philly fans want to run him out of town after begging him to sign in 2002-03. It's a terrible way to treat someone and he deserves the proper respect. He will come back and hit again. Howard is unproven. One good year does not make a player. I've seen them come and go.

Gets nearly all of his home runs when the Phillies are winning or losing by at least six runs. NOT a clutch hitter. And batting about .200 with a lousy 4 home runs this year.

The Phillies paid a boat load of money to get him, and got one hell of a player. As the Phillies clubhouse begins to self destruct under the leadership of Larry Bowa, Jim Thome is literally the only thing keeping the team afloat. He seems to be involved in virtually ALL of the team's offensive production, and seems to homer in 2 of every 3 games as the stretch run approaches. With the media, he has been a pillar of strength - refusing to take the bait and torch Bowa's negative influence on the team - instead playing peacemaker and setting an example for the Burrell's, Rollins', and Tyler Houston's of how big league ball players are supposed to act during a penant race. I would place him second only to Barry Bonds in terms of importance to his team. He deserves better than all the BS he is having to deal with in Philly.

Jimmy is one of the strongest batters in baseball. There is no ball park in the world that he cannot hit the ball out of. He is a decent first base man, but his real strength is with a bat. He should hit around fifty home runs this year, with well over one hundred RBI's and a batting average about .300. The only bad side is this, like many homerun hitters, he tends to strike out alot. When he gets in a slump he is prone to chase the ball outside, and he still has a little trouble with the left hand pitchers. Personality wise, the man is one of the nicest in baseball. He has never lost his temper or gotten any bad press. I was happy when he broke Albert Belle's record and became the top home run hitter for the Indians.

Best know for his long homeruns. Second all-time on the indians home run list currently just 5 behind Albert Belle. Great clutch hitter currently one of the homerun leaders for all-time playoff homeruns
