 | VirileVagabond (32) 02/10/2005 | I picked up a secondhand Dell Dimension L Series for a second computer not too long ago, and for the most part I have been pleased. As other comments have noted, the L Series is designed to be a relatively basic system for home or school use. The machine boots and runs quickly, and notwithstanding some comments which seem to have implied otherwise, the computer does multitask. My primary complaint is that the tower is not versatile. There are no extra slots for a second hard drive or a second CD drive. As for the common complaints about Dell's customer service, as I have never had reason to call, I cannot give an opinion as to that.

 | princessangry (2) 07/22/2004 | really cheap and defective processors. celerons will overheat bad! also my parent's dell was shipped with the hard drive fell out. also they wasnt supposed to ship windows millenum edition with that system. it was supposed to have windows xp. it was out. dell just wanted people to buy new systems when that came out to make money! also they failed to ship a copy of xp to my parents and they were forced to buy a compy of xp pro. also dell will not treat employees very well.

 | michael67 (0) 05/11/2004 | Gateway is the Best. I went through 3 dells at my job in 18 months. They are Juck. I have Gateway for my home PC and never had problems with it, and there coustmer support is A1 there call canter is in the US , Compared to Dells which is in INDIA.

 | mmcvan (0) 04/01/2003 | It is now April. In November I ordered a Dell computer - The one that arrived had the Wrong CPU!, wrong Graphics Card!!, and Wrong Speakers!!! - I mean what else is there? It was the WRONG Machine!!! Next Dell billed me for the wrong amount, "corrected" for the wrong amount (twice) and 6 MONTHS LATER it is still WRONG. I have not received the correct bill yet. What a Nightmare! Trying to get a competent person to speak to at Dell has proven to be even harder than getting the computer I wanted!! SAVE YOURSELF – RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM DELL

IF you should need to escalate an issue BEWARE! Immediately they threaten to go to their legal department. With Dell you need to have a lawyer on retainer. They threaten and are abusive to customers. STAY AWAY FROM DELL!

 | Weirdmeister (0) 11/18/2001 | What is a good sounding word in English for reasonable? Agreeable, nice, OK? This is all it will do for you. You cannot have more than one program working at one time, but it will work...Technical support is OK although sometimes I should rephrase it as moral support. Waited an hour for support, but 3 out of the 4 times (4 complaints yes...) they were able to help me out. The 4th time they asked me if I could call back.., had to solve it my self (or with the help of my brother, hmmm).
It is in fact not that much money for a reasonable (OK, agreeable, etc...)computer. What did you expect?

 | lorelee (0) 07/17/2001 | I love my computer, but a warning, tech support is a nightmare, expect long hold times up to 1 - 2 hours just to talk to someone, and then if the problem isn't solve, you may have to call back and wait another hour and repeat previous steps. Dell is really lacking in providing good customer service

It's the millenium edition from Dell L_R and I can't have more than one application opened! I called and asked why and they said these new computers are so great because of constant backups and when explained to me it sounded the same as the backup system on my other computer which is a no name computer with windows 98 and I can have about 4 or 5 applications open with that with no problem! On this one while I work, I can't even listen to music because it will skip or freeze because it uses too much memory. What is good about using more memory? It's backing up what? A big pain in the butt, freazing all the time, so slow, waste of money computer! I wish I got another no namer! I had to wait on the phone for so long and tried online but there were not answers to any questions I felt like punching the computer screen I was so frustrated! I CANNOT suggest this computer at all no matter what you read! I read about it too. What a disappointment! It's so slow I will have to wait and come back later to see if this posting is actually posted!!!!

I decided to go back to Dell after purchasing several others from other manufacturers in the interim period and bought another in July 2000. It was terrible. This computer must have been a lemon after reading other comments about Dell on "Rate IT." It would take two and three phone calls to fix what I thought were minor problems. Service would place me on hold and then I would get a dial tone. No one ever called back. A new system board was installed and that did not fix the problems. No one at Dell seemed interested in getting it fixed. Very, very disappointed in Dell's "Award Winning Customer Service." After one problem after another, I was advised by my attorney to send the computer back and register a dispute with my credit card company for reimbursement. I did not send it back until four weeks had elapsed and over 15 phone calls had been made with no results.

You can customize them to have all the latest features and accessories and stuff. Very good customer service, too. For college students, Dell Dimension L-Series is the way to go.
