I bought a souped up Pavilion PC d4760 series with advance video card, extra memory, with Windows XP in January of 2007 fdirectly from HP for about $1,500. Within two weeks had to return the monitor. It never performed anywhere near what the propaganda descripbed. It was slow and sometimes could not even handle simple movie downloads from Netflix. Had problems througout, including continual blue screen errors and freezes. The Warranty expired January 2009, thus the Mother board died six months later.

2 years ago I bought a Pavilion AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core 4600+ , couldn' t ever had IIS working on it, Turn Off and Restart procedures, IE 6,7 and 8 aren't working at all and the TV Tuner died on me after 8 months ! ! !

The way they setup the OS means no flexibility, dvd burners run a lot slower than on other machines, this PC is "clean" of any virus and I defragment disk "C:" on a regular basis but the the overall performance (speed) of this model is disappointing, and was since day 1.
I started with PC's (IBM) when under PC-DOS 1.0a in 81, owned 18 PC's over the years (IBM, DELL, etc. . .) , I am now running a home network of 5 Desktops and a laptop.

The HP pavillion was the worst Desktop I ever came across.

HP service is next to zero ! they did their best to get away from the problems their machine have by suggesting to "look with Microsoft. . .", after 5 calls and 8 emails, i gave up.
you are better off going to some local INDEPENDENT store close to your home if possible, a store where you know the people and what they can do for you, if you can, avoid, at all cost big "reputable fine stores". My own experience (in Canada) : the local independent stores are more accommodating, and their prices are still competitive.

My whole experience with HP Pavilion 2310 - product, service, and claim case management--was terrible. The notebook suffered occasional breakdown from the beginning. An update of the BIOS did not seem to improve the situation obviously. In one year and a half the notebook crashed completely, which started a more than 2 months tedious repairing process. I got my notebook back only after I filed a claim at BBB and got into contact with an HP claim case manager. To my surprise, the original 1G memory system was replaced by a 512 MB one during the repairing. From my point of view, such a replacement is cheating. I am speechless with HP. I learned from a website that another people had experienced a similar situation as I did. So I am thinking, maybe we can teach HP a lesson and learn to respect their customers. Please contact me at xu.daisy@yahoo.com if you have suffered or are suffering a similar problem with HP Pavilion 2310. Thank you!

Peice of crap! Died on me 3 times (because of the cheap china-made motherboard), internal speakers stopped working, microphone malfunctioned, power button doesn't work, battery life barely even 45 mins, brightview screen has gotten extremely dim, and those damn quickplay buttons!!!!!!
Thank god I bought a warranty extension when I purchased this garbage, or it would never have been repaired once! My next laptop is a dell...

I must tell you my experience with HP Pavilion - I was warned, but I thought it is stupid to listen, now i saw the truth. I bought two HP pavilions, both series dv9500, one is not so strong the other is dv9690el. It was around four or five months. The dv9690el has geforce 8600m gs video card and the system was already twice on HP repair, now they exchange the mainboard and told me that they tested everything and it is fine...super!..hoho..after five seconds my laptop got nvdllmkm error and system shutdown...I almost got crazy, they did it once more..repaired everything, said everything is fine..I have enough I will sue them. I am so very sorry I ever bought pavilion..would destroy it and send back to them them in pieces, but will not do that..will take it easy, I payed 836 EUR...we will see what will be at the end. It should be an entertainment laptop, strong..I can not even play Fear, constantly crashes and they play with me but now is enough..refund or I sue.. :( I never, never had a problem with a lapotop or computer - if there was something, it was repaired in a sec, all my friend are in schock..how can something like that happen??

i have the pavilion m9080 purchased x-mas 2007, within 7 days it had mother board replaced, 4wks later the desk top replaced. 3 months later after many calls to hp service center(not many speak fluent english)about a cracking or popping from monitor, i was changing screen settings, connecting and disconnecting leads. i finally got the message across that i was not happy. low and behold they say they have issues with that model and would i like a replacement?. yes thanks. it only cracks once now at start up. just 2 weeks ago the keyboard died, oh joy another call to service centre. after much messing about they sent new a new keyboard mouse and wireless toggle. arrived 10 days later and noticed that it was now in its 4th revision. more issues me thinks. well if your wondering what the star is for its for looking good. as it cant do anything else without having some kind of issue.

Terrible machine. Look at *all* the 1's that it has been given. I have been using computers since the original IBM XT and replace mine every 2 years or so. I made the mistake of buying an HP pavilion -- the hard drive died with a head crash after 2 months and HP refused to replace it. It was weird -- the "support" agents were the most ignorant, loathsome people I have ever talked to. I had to purchase a $16 recovery disk and buy a new hard drive.

AVOID HP PAVILION AT ALL COSTS.

I'm not a technophile, I'm just an average PC user. But I bought an HP Pavilion dv5000 in '06 and it has to be the worst machine I've ever used, much less bought. I've owned three, and, sadly, my Aptiva from '95 with the 66MHZ processor was probably the best of the lot. The other was a HP Compaq, which had issues, particularly with the printer and improper shutdowns. But from the beginning, the Pavilion's lightscribe function didn't work properly; the keyboard randomly locks in the CAPS function, and there is no way to get it unstuck until it decides it wants to be; after creating the backup discs that HP was too cheap to provide, following their instructions, every time I start up my machine I get a message telling me that I don't have much space left; the scratch pad does weird, hangup things; and now the DVD carriage pops open at random times, just for the heck of it. There's probably other things I'm unaware of, but I will never do business with HP or with Best Buy again.

WARNING - DO NOT PURCHASE A HP PAVILION! I purchased one about six months ago from Best Buy. After all the software and the 'extra' warranty that Best Buy sells (yes, I am a big sucker) it came to $1,650.00. I am computer literate and have owned a few computers over the past years. This one is definitely the worst. I really haven't been able to use it anything for that requires reliability and it finally broke down completely about two months ago. (Fortunately I still have my old reliable Dell that is working.) The computer is still being serviced at HP. Both HP and Best Buy are completely useless as far as customer service is concerned. (NEVER BUY THE "EXTENDED SERVICE" warranty - BIG waste of money.) Customer service representatives from HP called a month after having the computer in their possession to see if anything was wrong with it (apparently they don't keep computer records either). I attribute the whole thing as an education I paid for (1,650.00 to be exact). I haven't had the computer for about two months now (it is lost somewhere at HP) I wish I read the numerous online warnings before donating my money to Best Buy and HP. To those of you that have had good experiences, I wish I was one of you. My experience has been very negative and I would never wish it on anyone.

I have never had any luck with Compaq computers and I had my doubts about buying an hp pavilion. Well, my fears are well founded. It seems that compaq has brought the good name of hp down, rather than hp improving compaq. Here is a brand new hp pavilion a1606n with all the latest bells and whistles, and I've had to do a pc restore about once per month. This is very inconvenient as you have to re-install everything from scratch. I will never purchase an hp product again, save for their printer, they seem to work pretty good. They just haven't been able to 'invent' a computer that works yet...

Hp makes great laptops, as long as you're not holding them accountable for user error...

I currently own four pavillions (all of differing model numbers) and maintain/upgrade two more. I could not be better satisfied with my pc's. I have never had any problems teaching myself to upgrade them (and yes i use quite a bit of info from hp's website [the site could be easier to navigate and give more info but it suffices]). The one time that I had to contact support they did aggravate me but in the end they solved the problem within 24 hours. All in all I would not consider any other make of pc!!

Incredibly awful machine. I have a strong suspicion that the damn thing shipped with a virus infestation. System Recovery doesn't work, and they're too cheap to ship a windows XP CD with it, and thatnks to Bill Gates you can't do a restore from another CD even if you are able to find your CD key for the HP. Generally the machine just plain sucks. They used the cheapest parts they could get away with so the cumulative effect is that a 3.3. Ghz procesor acts like a 1GHZ. I bought a clone PC at Frye's for $200 because it was loaded with Linspire. Loaded XP on it and its been rock solid. Stay away from HP at all costs!!!! One last thing - Wal-mart had a sale of HP laptops on Black Fridat, my buddy that works there told me a lot of them are being brought back to the store because they're just crapping out... Just FYI.

HP Pavilion zd8000, At first this was great but then the tv went out, probably the tuner is bad. I have spent hours on the phone with customer support, more then ever watching the tv. They finally said the tuner was probably bad but I had to be called back by another representative, which never happened. Tried to call Best Buy but it would cost $60.00 just to look at it. Basically I have a bad part after having the computer 5 weeks and I can't get any assistance on it.

HP overall just sucks. I have a pavilion, and you cannot install anything that involves anything complicated, or the computer craps out. The HP site also is abysmally bad. It lacks in any driver downloads for software, because of paranoia about stealing. I think that no person in their right mind should get an HP. EVER.

I am the user of a HP Pavilion XT983 running under Windows XP. The computer was working just fine for the past year and a half. Just recently I have been receiving 'PC Freeze' problems. The mouse and the keyboard would not function during these occurrences. the CTRL-ALT-DEL function would not either. I would have to do a cold boot to get the PC to operate again. I have no clue as to why this is occurring. I have downgraded the OS to Windows 2000 and it worked without any freeze ups. I did this to test the hardware mainly. Once I installed Windows XP, the PC froze up as it did before. I am not sure as to who to consult to resolve this matter but it is becoming a worldwide problem. I highly recommend to new purchasers of PCs to buy a Dell running XP rather than a HP.

I've had a Pavilion 4535 since 1999. My son has a 2-year old Pavillion 512n. I've been happy with both computers. It's not the fastest in the world. But it has been quite dependable. I was able to manipulate several multimedia features and while authoring a book. When it was really running slow, I fixed it using a neat piece of shareware called Registry Cleaner. It's been running great since than. I'm hoping to get another year out of it. I just hate the idea of losing my Windows 98. My son's computer works well too. He's into games and the computer handles high-end games like Madden 2004 fairly well. My only gripe with HP was that I wasn't too impressed with their Tech Support. They wanted to charge me $40 bucks for a service call, even though they didn't fix squat (My son's box wouldn't boot up; but my son did something to get it to work again -- I should have given him the 40 bucks). If you're a PC/Windows guy or gal, HP Pavilion is the brand to go with if you want to stay under $1000. HP Pavilion is like a '69 Chevy Pickup: no frills, but dependable.

I just purchased a HP 400n, 2.7 ghtz, 256 ram which I upgraded to 512, and 80 gig hard-drive. It is a piece of JUNK!! It is SLOOOOWWWWW!!! It freezes up with only 2 windows open, & when I am playing games, it stops, then starts, then stops. My old puter was a HP 510, and with exactly half of the above stats, and it was TONS better than this new piece of junk. I upgraded just to get more speed and storage, and what a fool I was! I have talked to way too many HP techs, and they quite frankly could not find their behinds with both hands if you gave them a road map. I was a confirmed HP customer until now, and would NEVER purchase from them again, nor would I ever recommend them. Their product stinks, their customer service people are worse, and I am out too much money for the grief this machine has already given me.

I have a Pavilion 304w, great computer and got a great price on it $499.99 back in 01/15/03 I have had it about a year now and it hasn't giving me any trouble. I like how you can reformat the system without using a Cd to do so, a few pushes of a button and it is at reformat screen, simple and easy. The reformat program is on the Hard-drive and it is on their forever, no way to really delete it on mistake or anything so it is good. System Stats, AMD Athlon 1800+ processor, 40 gig HD, 128mb DDR 2100 memory which I upgraded for $70 now it has 384mb of memory, and it has Windows XP Home version, 17inch HP monitor included. It is the best computer I have ever owned, and the cheapest, funny how that works out. I do recommend this to all, if you buy a budget computer system, make sure you upgrade the memory A.S.A.P Most budget computers of today come standard with 256mb of memory you can get buy on it, but I would recommend at least another 256mb chip to go along with it. If you want to spend a few bucks more get a 512mb chip.

I absolutely Love my HP Pavilion XL876. It came with a 1.2 Ghz AMD Athlon processor, 256 ram, 80GB hard drive, DVD and CD-RW (8x4x32x). The machine itself is wonderful, it’s the windows ME that it also came with that is not so wonderful. My machine came with the network card already installed and will even support double talk (if someone is visually impaired it can run more than one sound at a time. Such as a screen reader and sound affects to help guide the blind.) I mention this because my computer tech is a blind man, and the fact that this machine has that ability he tells me is very helpful. I have owned this machine for over two years, mechanically the machine is wonderful. (I just need to upgrade to Windows XP.)

HP "and" Microsoft are too paranoid about people ripping them off! You can't fix a problem yourself with the recovery disc's provided! If I had a problem on my old PC, I simply reloaded Windows 98, and problem fixed!!(I still have it and it's the only computer I can count on) I would like another HP so I can use them as "Bookends". If you ripped off a version of "98 thru XP" just trying to use it and keep it from crashing would be punishment enough! (Forget the law)

I have 8 Netservers, Vectras and Pavilion(s) which have performed flawless running NT 4.0, Windows 2000, RH Linux and XP for the past 6 years. I can't praise this product enough. Any trouble that encountered (2 issues) has been addressed and fixed with courteous, intelligent professionalism. Rock solid and very reliable. HP always delivers. In reviewing some of the comments in the negative reviews I am reminded that there are sill many people who invest way too much of their fragile ego structure in their equipment. Intel based systems are commodities. All manufacturers use the same components and package them. It is important to note that IA64 (Intel 64 bit platform) is based on a Hewlett Packard RISC architecture and not "Wei-Cheapee PC for you mom and dad's home brewed PC" or Dell (Which has never actually designed or manufactured anything.)

I bought an HP Pavilion 6370Z in 1998, the OS is now Windows XP and the Ram is up from 96mb when I bought to 364mb upon upgrading and a new Monitor. Other than that the system is the same as when I started out with it. It's a strong and consistent machine that refuses to die. The only beef I have is that I am unable to find info on swapping the Motherboard, I'd like to keep the Case but put in a P4 board. I put my New machine beside my HP, with the cases cracked, and as near as I can see, the boards are the identical dimmensions with the periferalls and PCI slots all in the same spots. The new machine is a P4 in an ATX case.

Without a Windows XP CD ROM (which DOES NOT come with the Pavilion) you will lose all your data if XP crashes and HP will not care or bother to help. Their only response is reformat your hard disk and reload all software, data is irrelevant. They will not even provide a disk to try to rescue data. I can purchase a copy of XP and hope the rescue works, but I should already have XP.

Aside from a few minor glitches (which are a little frustrating albeit easily fixed), this is a good computer. Most of the time, it is speedy and efficient. HP Pavilion is the brand I currently use. I know that there are a few that are probably better (more popular, even) than HP, but I find HP to be very suitable for me. Technology, like anything else, is not perfect. Even this so-called 21st-century state-of-the-art equipment conks out from time to time. HP Pavilion is simple, yet has everything one could ask for in a computer. It even makes BUSINESS fun!!!

I went thru three of these pukes before switching over to an emachine of comparable hardware (yet far cheaper). The emachine comes highly recommended, but HP can go straight to hell. All the whoreware progz on their computers are impossible to cleanly remove in order to istall the software I use regularly. Terrible "support" to boot. Talk about wasting your time on the phone! I will never give HP another dime of mine.
