Becker was probably the first player that I feel was a complete player. When his game was on, it seems like he could beat anybody.

...at wimbledon 86 and 89. 4 times runner up there. becker also won the us open in 1989 and the australien open 1991 and 1996. three times winner of the atp-world championships (88/90/95) and 5 more times runner up. three times semi finalist at roland garros. olympic champion (doubles) 1992. winner of the davis cup in 1988 and 1989. World no. 1 in 1995. he definitely was one of the most charismatic players during the last periods. and with his power game he brought mens tennis on a higher level. amazing.

...and by the way: he was so near to win on clay: he wasnt able to realise 3 matchpoints in a row - by own service in the final of hamburg against thomas muster. he also was once in the paris semi-finals, where he lost to edberg. his waekness on clay seemed to be a bit psychologically cause this was the last goal he had. in general a real giftet player, tramendous will-power, unbelievable touch besides his bum-bum-service. one if these players that won the most 5 set matches and also in winning after being 2 sets behind. but also - like all genius-players perhaps - a bit slovenly with his talents. i m sure he could have won so much more. but this was part of his personality. so for me a great player, but not under the greatest of all time.

ok. now ive read a few -ve comments about becker here, and the favorite seems to be his inability to win on clay. I feel that becker was a specialist, he specialized on power play- that was his style!! playing on clay requires a different style and it just wasnt his! My friends if you will remember the time when becker played. He hit the limelite when such stars like mcenroe was fading out, and when he peaked he did so with a lota grace and was my god the most powerful. Nobody wanted to play powerful tennis then, he kinda introduced a new style- a trend setter. Oh and im sure there are some that will want to compare him with sampras and the likes. well for starters when sampras hit the scenes becker was not in his peak, he had been so for the previous 10 years!! And i can just go on..... but here it is i think becker has been a phenominon in tennis(starting the power play style of the game) and so he ought to up there among the best. One last piece of advice... dont compare two players of different generations- never works.

Boris Becker was one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He played nearly 1,000 matches, winning nearly 74% of them. He was in the top ten for more than a decade. The first real power player, the first child prodigy. Though he won no tournaments on clay, his clay win-loss record is over 67%, soundly beating Sampras' measely 48% clay record(Sampras never won on clay either). Very entertaining to watch, he always gave 110%, and had the biggest heart in tennis. God bless you, Becker. You're missed.

fiery, exuberant, inspirational with an awesome power game. In my opinion did not achieve as much as he could have due to a lack of consistency. However he was the ultimate entertainer, never boring on and off the court..a player of real character. His achievements were a joy to watch because they were natural and from the heart! There is no other way that "Boom Boom" could have won. Becker was a born champion!

Best male tennis teenager in history. 2 times Wimbledon champion at 18. Could have won a lot more. But had a great comeback with 28 winning the ATP Worldchampionships and Australian Open.

Good, but not a great player. His private life left something to be desired.

First Power player in history of tennis. Excellent First serve and when he was young he was very acrobatic on the net and constantly diving for those out of reach balls. Very talented and colorful and natural.
