Jimmy Connors is perhaps the most talented male player to ever take the court. He wasn't the "Pete Rose" of men's tennis. Connors had the best return of serve, and the best 2-handed backhand ever seen in the game. During one 3 year period - he could literally put a tennis ball precisely where he wanted it - and with great pace. His big flaw was in never changing his game. That trait cost him several major tournaments. The only time I ever saw him adjust was against John Mac at the 82(83??) Wimbledon final when he beat Mac at the net in a 5 set thriller. Jimmy set the new standard for men's tennis and turned it into a MAN'S sport. He and Johnny Mac are the 2 best i've ever seen.

Connors was the second-best player of his time, behind Bjorn Borg, until McEnroe came onto the scene.
Being arguably the 3rd best player in the greatest era of men's tennis certainly qulifies him as being one of the best ever.

The 1991 U.S. Open match against Aaron Krickstein was one of the best individual efforts I have ever seen in sports. Jimbo was in his 40's and playing a guy 20 years younger. It was hotter than ____ in Flushing Meadows. I was never a fan of his, but I had such admiration for him after that event.

He was the greatest fighter of tennis ever seen. One time he was losing at the age of 35 at wimbledon'87 in the 4TH round 6-1 6-1 4-1 30-0 and then came back and win at that age, incredibile! In '84 lost to ivan lendl 6/0 6/0 at forest-hills and was losing 6/0 1/0 in rotterdam and few month later beat the french champion in the semifinal at wimbledon.

I think it would be really hard not to like Jimmy Connors. Unlike some modern-day tennis players, he had no overpowering serve to fall back on. He wasn't lightning fast. And his ground-stroke even seemed a little forced/awkward. But he was gritty and left it all out on the court every time he played. Tennis was more of a spectator sport when Connors played.

Might have been a great player but I couldn't stand the way he sucked up to the crowd. It's like he was begging them to like him. Shameless.

such a great fighter - always value for money. The times he fought back from 2 sets down to win was amazing, he seemed to success, almost invariable] with the will power alone, as no so skilled as the likes ofd mac and borg.

I always like Connors and I'm not really sure why I guess for some reason I always felt like he was a bit of a scrapper. His was also one of the first tennis rackets I ever owned, (the first was a wooden one that I actually still have!!) and let me tell you that racket was such a piece of crap. It's head was the size of a modern squash racket, and as heavy as a brick. It was just steel or aluminum or something chromed over. It looked like someone just took a shaft of metal bent it around a basketball, strung it up and Voila! a tennis racket.

Even though you are on of the best players-don't trash others in order to try to leverage yourself
