Every now and then I must crusade against things overrated. This is one of those times! We aren't asking who the hottest tennis player is. Leave that to a weblist of that topic. She is a below average tennis player who happens to be reasonably attractive, and that's it. Lets not get carried away, kids.

One-star for Anna the tennis player. Not in the same league as Chris Evert... not even in the looks department!!

I used to play tennis in college and I coached juniors tennis. When guys used to talk to me about tennis, all they knew was ANNA. Oh, and those Williams sisters who they thought were gross. It was annoying because people ask you about the sport and the only tennis player anyone cares about never actually wins tournaments. Pretty sad when you consider that at 10 she was heralded with Hingis and Venus as part of the next generation of great players and she got to the semis of Wimbledown her first time there. It's discouraging and bad for girls who grow up wanting to play as well as they can. The saddest part is that the WTA practially walked Kournikova into retirement, because they pressured her to play with stress fractures in her foot to appease fans. I just hope Sharapova doesn't dump her career by focusing on sponsorships and manginas like Enrique. Beauty does make life easy, but in the end when you're old and gray, it's just ten times cooler to say that you were hot and you won Grand Slams than to say you were hot and dated...Enrique. Blech.

Wish the world had never heard of this egotistical, overrated, prima donna BITCH.

No, she isn't a GREAT tennis player and yes, she has not won a Singles title but this gal has talent that is well above the WTA norm. You haters (who I'm assuming haven't ever even SEEN her play but have only heard of her 'o title' stat...) make it sound as though she's the equivalent of American Idol's William Hung... Remember, Anna was once ranked #8 in the world (the top ranked Russian player at that time). She reached a QF, SF and SEVEN 4th rounds in Grand Slam events; results most other women on her tour would only dream of achieving. And her Doubles record... onced ranked the #1 Doubles player in the world, 200-71 win-loss career record and 16 titles. Her 209-129 win-loss career Singles record is in itself very impressive and if anything, shows how she reaches deep into tournaments but maybe lacks the mental toughness to finish out the win. Disappointing indeed that she has yet to win a Singles title but then again, most of the other ladies on tour have yet to do so as well. She isn't a Williams or a Davenport but as it is, I would say that she was above average and no doubt very talented. Now if only she would come back and dedicate herself 50% more than she ever did...

Talent is okay, maybe above average. If looks helped her play she's win the Grand Slam. She's a doll but that doesn't help her on the court (win matches).

Anna Kournikova ought to be given credit in that she brought legions of male fans to watch tennis. That being said, this beauty squandered all her talent. It is sad, and we never got to see what Kournikova might have done had she been a little more dedicated to her craft as she is to her social life.

As a person who appreciates tennis for the game and not the looks of the people playing it, I am giving Anna Kournikova two stars just because she has given some attention to the sport (on a side note: I remember Venus & Serena generating quite a lot of attention as well when they first started, but apparently the poster who earlier said they didn't doesn't remember that). She is a very beautiful woman, but her game leaves much to be desired. In terms of talent (which I believe was the reason this list was created, right?) she is nowhere near the likes of Venus, Serena, Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Jennifer Capriati, Dementieva, and even Sharapova, a newcomer.

NO ONE SHOULD EVER FORGET - while it is being foolishly squandered at the moment, Anna has an amazing tennis talent. Everyone talks about how she has never one a singles final - well she has one everything else. She was Wimbledon Semi-Finalist at 16. In most tournaments there are six rounds preceding a final match. How many quarterfinals, semifinals and finals has she reached? She was ranked #8 in the world in singles. She has beat several world #1's at the top of their game. And yes - she is a doubles Grand Slam champion. While a top 100 comeback get more unlikely as time goes on - Anna should be remembered well as a WTA Great...

Anna is an ok tennis player. If she wants to be serious about tennis, she really needs to concentrate on tennis only. I also agree she needs a haircut, a big haircut. a super short pixie would be great!

Anna is a very underrated tennis player. There are many pro tennis players who never won a Grand Slam, but she's singled out because she is blond and beautiful. She has much talent, but clearly not as much as the Williams sisters. People despise her for being so pretty, but she does her best. Why not make millions off of endorsements? Other players like the Williams sisters do. You don't have to win a Grand Slam to endorse a product. Give her some credit. She's more than just a pretty face.

I actually think she is a very good tennis player. I mean she's better than me. (Of Course) But, I don't think she has the biggest devotion to make it to the top.

She sucks at tennis, she has never won a title. All she does is model & that's the focus of her entire life. There's no reason she should be number 1 on this list- she shouldn't even be in the top ten.

Like I heard Jim Rome once say, "Wait a minute. She's a tennis player?" I agree due to the fact that she has yet to win a tennis tournament. If i'm correct, she's never even passed the first round of any tournament. Granted, she has to be good if she's a professional tennis player. However, she is one the lowest rated women's tennis players in a professional circut. Besides, competing against joe smoe won't prove anything anyway.

Everybody gets on her case about not being a good tennis player, but she still does play at a professional level. I guarantee most of the people that talk down to her would be no competition for her on the court. And honestly, if it wasn't for her popularity, nobody would give a rip about women's tennis.

She's a gorgeous woman, no doubt about it. I'll even admit that I have a calendar of her up in my bedroom. Her tennis playing ability leaves a little to be desired these days.

If I'm not correct (I haven't done my homework on this) Anna Kournikova, by far the most overrated athlete in the history of sports, has never won a singles title, much less a grand slam to date. Why is she STILL popular? She has no game. She's not even a pretty face. Why would anyone give a damn about her? Will she ever win a title of any type on her tour? I doubt it.

True, she has never won a SINGLES (NOT SINGLE) tennis tournament. If you check out her doubles record, however, she has had multiple grand slams (insert juvenile joke here). Granted, most of them were with Martina Hingis, but Hingis couldn't have won them by just herself. Don't hate her just because she's beautiful.

No doubt, Anna is a stunner. I'm not really a tennis fan, but I could look at her for hours on the court and not get bored. That said, I do wish she would learn how to WIN. Otherwise, I fear she may have to retire soon from the tennis circuit.

Anna is a better-than-decent player who deals with the press--both good and bad--with more tact than most people give her credit for. She's one of the best female doubles players ever to set foot on a tennis court and has, at times, shown real competence in singles tourneys as well. People who resent what they call her 'taking away from the sport' have to remember that, as pretty as she is, you can't qualify for the tournaments you see her in on TV with good looks alone. That's not to say I think dating Enrique Iglesias shouldn't be grounds for banishment from the sport, however.

She may not be the best tennis player, but shes definitely bought some life back to women's tennis. Shes extremely beautiful and she definitely has that X-Factor that makes it easier for audiences to watch her. My only comment is that I wish that people would stop criticising how terrible she is and that shes not in the top 20 rankings the sooner they leave her alone to get on with what she loves doing the easier it will be for her to get in the top 10 as there will be less pressure.

Little princess Anna isn't even all that good or all that pretty! She needs to grow up a little. How the heck did she get rated higher than Jennifer Capriati on this site? Let me guess---this site is infested by young males who think that every pretty woman is going to fall at their feet. Anna will never win a Wimbledon, that is what I predict. Or any other slam. She's just like a speech by George Dubya. All shine and no substance.

With so many serious players, most of which have dedicated their lives to tennis, Anna is almost an insult. All you have to do is look at her record. Her modeling is wildly successful, and good for her, but the way she behaves regarding tennis is shameful. I was convinced of this by her behavior at the French Open...being there..not to play, of course, but for the paparazzi. I rest my case.

Good up and coming player. She is young and makes too many mistakes. Experience will help her improve. There are too many powerful players on the tour and although she is "good" I don't believe she will ever be number one. She reminds me of Gabrielle Sabatini. Just not consistant. 1.

When i first saw her i thought she has the potential to be great. But she didn't use her full potential as a player. Instead, she became a sex symbol parading in tournaments without getting any trophy. I'm really frustated and irritated. I'm still optimistic thatshe can do it

A lot of people say that Anna Kournikova is a celebrity because she is very prety and not talanted, but I think that talent moved her up to be called celebrity.
