Maureen Connolly won 3 Wimbledons, 3 US Opens, 2 French Opens, and 1 Australian Open during her career. Maureen Connolly won every grand slam singles event she appeared in. Maureen Connolly's career came to an early and abrupt end in 1954 after suffering a broken leg in a horse riding accident. Maureen Connolly died in 1969 at the age of 34.

i never saw her playing. but the commentary before says it all: we dont know how many more titles she would have reached. but what she has left is enough to bring her on the same extraordinary level with all other unforgettable legends.

Very hard to not rank her as the best. Quits the game at age 19 with a grandslam and 3 wimbledons. What more does a person want

Both she and Chris Evert are the greatest female baseline players of all time...in fact, an early inspiration for Chris (thanks Stevie!). Like Seles, career cut short because of freak accident; was virtually unbeatable for three years prior. Grand Slam champion!

The first woman to win the Grand Slam, and illness kept her from winning who knows how many other titles.
