Horrid abysmal rating given by the haters. Time to do my part to fix it. I happen to enjoy a lot of Journey's work. One of the better bands as far as classic ballads are concerned, among other talents. Great lyrics and singing, nice combination of keys and guitars, just the right fills and feels from the drummer, very nice sounds all around. Not nearly as hard as later bands, and that might be why the haters are circling. Hard does not equal good, people. Some of the most challenging works in music, both from a technical and an artistic standpoint, are quiet pieces, or slow ones. Doesn't always have to be fast and furious to be excellent.

It amazes me that Steve Perry did much of his work while he was still a teenager. What an immense talent from a legendary group that has stood the test of time. One of my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

He is horrible and unamerican. This is a Bay Area band not a pinoy band. Fire him... I will never see Journey again. Heart was great...

Revelation is an incredible body of work. Nice job of redos, 11 wonderful new songs and a nice glimpse of their live performance on the DVD! Arnel is a true "find" and the real deal. I hope this band continues to turn out equally well-crafted tunes in the future. Their musicianship is top-notch! Live and studio work is great, although I prefer to see them live and continually witness with my own eyes just how really talented they are!

I've been blown away by the present find of the group. The new Frontman rocks. Arnel Pineda is a rare gift this band needed in a long time. I can smell the rise of the new Journey. Thirty years of following the band and I thought I was gonna witness as they wilt and perish, this time around I felt that they took a whole bottle of Rock Viagra, if there is such a thing. It's only been 5 months since they announced Arnel got the gig I see You Tube exploded with hits on this band. I wish the band the best since now they have the BEST. I look forward to getting old with them ala Rolling Stone.

Steve Perry is one of the greatest vocalists of all-time and Neil Schon is a terriffic guitar player. Lots of hits and great live performances and they should be in the R & R Hall of Fame.

Here in the UK we have had to contend with a whole panoply of unutterable home-grown sh*te over the decades but at least we have largely been spared the likes of Journey, REO, Kansas etc. Is there anything positive to say about this barrel-scraping dross.....um.....no!

This was a band that was better live than their records. During their hayday, they were a force. Yea, they'll be known for their cheesy ballads (Open Arms, Faithfully - yuuuck!)But listen to the Infinity or the Departure albums and you'll find that they were a deeper band musically than the other "arena rock" bands of their day.

I was a big journey fan back when Steve Perry was on the vocals. Right now with this ordinary Steve (Augeri) on the mic, people are still hopeful to let the journey music continue. However, their Billboard ratings seems to be going down, with the 'Arrival' album in 2001 making it only up to #56 and their 'Generations' in 2005 drained to #170. They may seem to try other ways on this 'Generations' album, but it shows it didn't work. The band and the management just making it worse when they try to let other band members, other than Steve Augeri, step-in on the lead vocals. Hopefully they won't try it again. Castronovo may be able to sing a song or two. On the other hand, Schon & Cain & Valory can play well in their musical instruments but their voices are just plain horrible as lead vocals. Journey is not like the Eagles or Styx or Chicago in which almost every band members can sing as lead vocals.

JOURNEY is my favorite band. But sadly, the current line-up is not even close as to "THREE-QUARTERS" of a way compared back when JOURNEY was at their highest peak. (For now, 'maybe' just a lil bit over the halfway........ kinda sad :-( ....) I try to make honest comments at the Journey website, but some of their fans (and/or moderators) are one-sided. Click the "General Forum" at this site http://www.journeymusic.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi OR http://www.journeymusic.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=General+Forum&number=2(then look for the topic "after watching JOURNEY - VH1 Behind The Music." Steve Perry got the GREATEST voice, but chances for him to get back with the band are 'way too slim'. One of the few options for the current line-up to get back AS CLOSE AS when the band was at their highest peak, is to convince GREGG ROLIE to rejoin the band. Making it a 6-member band. But when I try to open up that opinion, I guess some Journey fans (especially, the "pro- S. Augeri" fans) disapprove it right away without thoughts. Just showing how insecure or one-sided these people are. ------ If these people (some fans & moderators) on this site http://www.journeymusic.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi can't accept HONEST comments - good & bad,,,,,,,,, it makes you doubt about the other comments on that site if it's fixed or scripted????

Weird thing about Journey is that they've got some good songs - Don't Stop Believing, I'll Be Alright Without You, Who's Crying Now, Any Way you Want It. But on the other breath they have some near nauseating songs - Faithfully, Lights, Open Arms...

This band totally sucks most of there stuff sounds the same. Even the album covers look similar. Listening to Journey is like listening to the same song over and over again. No depth to the sound. Journey can be heard in elevators all over the country.

What I couldn't stand was all this band's sappy ballads...growing up, they seemed to be all over the radio. So many of their tunes sounded the same to me - seemingly, Steve Perry's heart bled with every song (typical example; Who's Crying Now). My guess is that during their height, Journey's primary appeal was to teenage females in predominantly suburbia or small town America. Way too angst-ridden and smooth sounding for my taste's - even the guitar solos sounded just way too melodic/formulaic/pretty for me...nothing particularly edgy or rebellious here. In a word I'd describe their brand of arena (get-out-your-lighters!) rock as safe, a type of music designed to line the pockets of countless industry types and the band itself, but nothing your parents or teachers could ever find even token offense in. And to me, rock is supposed to have at least a small dose of edge or menace in it - as originally, it wasn't meant to be played in elevators. No disrespect to anyone still really into this band; just couldn't hold back my thoughts on this one...

Yeah, the music hasn't aged well. All that synth work by Jonathan Cain sounds so dated. I agree with one of the other reviewers that the best years were when Gregg Rolie handled the keyboard chores. Still, this band was on fire in the early eighties and I do listen on occasion as a guilty pleasure. Did they rock? Yeah, as much as any corporate band CAN rock. There was no mystique with this band. All were talented musicians who brought alot to the table. Unfortuntely, they'll always be remembered for the bubblebum songs (open arms, faithfully) rather than some of the other ones that really rocked (just the same way, feelin' that way).

Look, they had their time and place in popular music. To many, it now seems dated but I know plenty of musicians who revel in the talent that this group put forth. Yes, Jonathon Cain wrote fairly cheesy lyrics at times, especially the two albums following Frontiers, but the sound and talent they put together were truly inspiring. They could kick ass when they decided to but they blended their rock/prog/jazz backgrounds into something unique and Steve Perry voice soared.

The genesis of Journey was lead guitarist Neal Schon and keyboard/vocalist Gregg Rolie leaving the group Santana to form their own jazz/prog-rock band. While the early incarnation of the band is best left to hardcore fans, the more familiar version of Journey began with the arrival of vocalist Steve Perry and the release of "Infinity" (1978) and the subsequent "Evolution" (1979). These two efforts mark a time when Perry had not yet exerted too much control, allowing Rolie to still strongly influence the sound and songwriting (as he was still singing as well). The tracks "Feeling That Way," "Anytime," "City Of The Angels," and "Just The Same Way" all evidence this synergy. The third release of the "new" Journey was "Departure" (1980), which would be the last effort with Rolie, and it shows that he is starting to be (unfortunately) overshadowed by Perry; however, the effort was (and remains) still worthy as a full-length purchase as it features "Precious Time" and "Where Were You" (among other strong deeper cuts). Of course the most successful full-length effort for Journey was "Escape" (1981), released during the heyday of AOR, which included the band's most familiar songs (eg "Don't Stop Believin'", "Who's Crying Now," and "Open Arms"). Notwithstanding this incredible four release run, the remainder of their material is best left sampled via a compilation. The bottom line is that Journey was at one time one of the better arena rock groups, and the casual fan need only pick up one good compilation (eg "The Essential Journey" (2001)), supplemented by the three full-length efforts released while Rolie was still with the band (ie "Infinity," "Evolution," and "Departure").

Oh, good god, what a terrible, terrible band. They are typical of what's wrong with everything in music. Bad songs, bad singing, bad playing, a lack of even ONE original thought... and an adoring flock of sheep-fans who continue to buy their trash.

My older brother loved this band, but I wasn't quite so gullible. They had very little style or substance in my book. A couple of songs were tolerable like Who's Crying Now or After the Fall, but not much else.

I would have given this band 5 stars but as of recently, I learned that this band has hired another lead singer that sounds just like Steve Perry (Steve Augeri). C'mon Journey, don't patronize the fans with this karaoke singer! Also, have you seen him? His hair is 15 years old, long and curly like Kenny G. How dreadful!

One of the greatest groups I've ever heard. They have great chemistry together. Steve Perry is the greatest singer that took this group to the top. Steve Augeri is good but not quite the same. Maybe Steve Perry will be able to get together one last time with Journey for one last tour, before its to late.

Journey? Journey?? This band has to be one of the most cheesy acts ever. Steve Perry has a pretty nice voice, yes, but his songs are simply cheeseful. Don't get me wrong, I know this band has some redeeming qualities ( can't really think of many of them right at this moment, but I know they are there), but as far as them being serious artists..well.."someday, love will find you!!!!! break those chains that bind YOUUU" keeps popping into my head and I have to crack a smile. Without question, Journey is one of the greatest rock groups of all time. There's practically nothing from them which I don't like! The album FRONTIERS is awesome! GREATEST HITS doesn't miss a single beat (unless you crave the concert faves like "Chain Reaction" and "Feeling That Way"). The two most recent albums- 1996's TRIAL BY FIRE & this year's ARRIVAL are also excellent! New lead singer Steve Augeri sounds practically identical to former lead singer Steve Perry... that's NOT a bad thing, its a COMPLIMENT! For Journey to pick up and keep moving forward with a new lead vocalist who has all the talent, ability, and energy as the former is fantastic! They are blessed, and so are we, the fans!

Journey made an art form out of arena rock. Along with Jefferson Starship and Night Ranger, Journey helped carry San Francisco's rock-and- roll torch clear into the nineties and beyond. Classics like "Feeling That Way/Anytime," "Lights," and "Wheel in the Sky" established them at radio. What happened after that is well-known rock-and-roll history: six Top 10 albums in a row selling over 30-million records; more than two dozen hit songs; and the birth of several off-shoots (Steve Perry solo, Jonathan Cain solo, Neal Schon & Cain with Bad English, Ross Valory/Gregg Rolie/Steve Smith with The Storm). Its hard to single out any one Journey album because they're all great! ESCAPE (1981) is an excellent representation of what Journey could do. My all-time fave is RAISED ON RADIO (1986); and GREATEST HITS (1988) is, well, GREAT!!! To all the nay-sayers... the departure of Perry and the addition of Steve Augeri on lead vocals is a moot issue!!! Augeri sounds every bit as good as Steve Perry did... I have the new Journey CD, ARRIVAL, and I went to their concert two days ago here in Houston. Augeri handles the lead vocals without flinching! He sang every song as if he had been the first one to do so, and he worked the stage in fine front-man form. He ran and danced from one end to the other, crawled on the top of the paino (!), and threw his hair around like nobody's business!!! The newest incarnation of Journey ROCKS. For all who declined to buy the new CD because of Steve Perry's absence... SHAME ON YOU!!! You don't know a good thing when you see (hear) it! Journey's still doin' it "Just the Same Way." Rock on guys!
