The second full-length CD from this contemporary heavy San Francisco psych band has a somewhat different, though no less psychedelic, sensibility from their strong first one.It has a little less of an abrasive edge on most cuts, and a more funky/danceable and layered sound.Beginning with "Motorbike",Wooden Shjips take us for a tasty, heady ride laden with fuzz, organ work that would have served the overly carnivalish sound of Ray Manzerek very well, repetitive but strong rythyms that bolster amazing guitar wizardry, and sparse, haunting vocals."For So Long" shows us a bitter-sweet side of the band, with poetic lyrics."Down By the Sea" is probably the most dramatic of the cuts here. They are masters of texture and ambiance, pumping out mystical mood music.Ripley Johnsons fretwork weaves a mysterious, compelling path for our auditory journey.
