Hell of a hockey player. One of the toughest competitors in the game when he wore the blades and carried the axe. He was also one of the dirtiest, chippiest and most vicious players in the game, and ranked high on the "enemies list" of most opposing players. Went on to become an executive, but he couldn't GM to save his soul.

Great player here. When the Flyers were kicking as*, Clarke was the head kicker!

Bobbie Clarke is the protoypicla Philadelphia Phaggot maggot from the 70's. He was a cheap-shot, stick-wielding little mouse who hid, literally hid, on the ice behind Kelly, Saleski, DuPont, Shcultz, etc. He was a low-talent coward who desreved NO respect onbly loathing of truye hockey fans, And, now, 30 years later, he's a losing GM (no Stnalye CUps in how many years even when he could outspend rivals like the Devils bya 2 to 1 marginbefore the cap) and walking hypocrit. He gripes about how the rules of honorablet hockey say that fighters should only fight fighters (see '04 FLyers-Senators series comments) but he forgets that Schultz routinely and consciously took on the Dale Rolfes and Rick Middletons who never fought. He backs convicted felon Alan Eagleson, and calls those who challenge him (Bobby Orr, Frank Mahovolich, etc) - "fringe players" and "jerks." Bobbie Clarke is the all-time hypcrit loser and, solong as he's associated with the Flyers, they will NEVER win another Stanley Cup. Little nappy headed-perm girl - Bobbie Clarke!

As a Philadelphian, I owe my lifelong gratitude to him for giving the city something we have never experienced...a sport's dynasty. In 4 years (from 1973 to 1976), he led the Flyers to 2 Stanley Cups, 3 Stanley Cup Finals and 4 Confeence Finals. Most impressive was the 1975 exhibition with the Russian National team where the Russian's, in the middle of the 1st period - ran into the locker like so many debutante's placed in the Soledad Prison Yard. After the Flyers 5-1 drubbing of the Russians, Philly fans proudly wore their Bring on Mars T-Shirts. Clarke was the common denominator to all this success. Though not a prolific scorer in the Esposito sense, he always had a ton of assists and was one of the greatest defensive centers in the game. Too bad he can't GM for the life of him.

Bobby Clarke exemplified everything that is wrong with the NHL today. I guess you could say he was well before his time: Dirty, prototypical, lesser talent willing to play outside the rules to try to even the odds. Even more than that thug Gordie Howe, Clarke was the ultimate English Pig. -Jesse Boehme

Mr. Flyer did everything for that team and the city. (In the voice of Gale Sayers) "I Love Bobby Clarke, and I'm asking everyone in Philly to love hime too."

Clarke as a hockey player - 4 stars, as a GM, 1 star. He should of been on the bus out of town instead of Lindros.

the "only" thing that clarke could do well was wack people with his stick! of course he would not do that to anyone who could fight - clarke was a dirty player who like lindros was GUTLESS! how on earth could anyone respect anything about this guy with these facts to overlook?

Clarke will never be in my good books. A dirty hockey player who could score is just a bad combination. Although without him, Canada never would have won in '72. I would have loved to see what would have happened to a foreign hockey player's career if say he gave a two handed slash to Gretzky's ankle and broke it....and yes Valeri Kharlamov was that good to the the Russian team.

judging by his actions as a g.m. i think he must have taken 1 too many shots to the head.

hey flyer fans: try picking a player who isn't on your favorite team. Bobby Clarke couldn't hit the side of a barn with a puck and is known only for his size... pick a player with SKILL.

The leader of the Broad Street Bullies made everyone around him better.

I believe Bobby Clarke is the best NHL player of all time because he revolutionized the sport and played for the greatest team of all time the Flyers.
