[Now 'retired' thus shouldn't be on this list]  A jerk, an egomaniac, and perhaps a wife-beater- but Roy was the greatest goalie outside of Martin Brodeur in the modern era and deserves a place amongst the greatest ever.  Roy was money in the playoffs- even if he had a bad game you knew he wouldn't have two bad games in a row.  Montreal's strange decision to trade him (complicated by Roy's terrible behavior) was a setback for the franchise and a boon to the Colorado Avalanche.  When he was on his game, Roy was amazing.  Roy has the numbers, the records, the trophies, and the Stanley Cups. . .

Hey billybob, I watched many utube videos of Roy fights and I have yet to find one where he wins. The Osgood fight was funny as Roy threw many haymakers but they didn't land. Osgood threw him to the ice. Guy on top wins...dat's the rules.

Roy is one ofe the best goalies in the world, it´s hard to say who´s the best, but he´s one of them for sure. and hasek doesn´t just get lycky. he´s one of the best goalies to.. but he has an odd style.. but if it were luck, he wouldn´t be in the top all the time.

Roy is definatly no hasek wanna be as an other user rediculously claimed. Roy does not even play the same style as Hasek (flop around and get luckey).

Roy is definitely an amazing goalie--the NHL has never seen the likes of him. But his ego needs to be controlled... I still think Tretiak is better (Soviet Olympic Goalie-career got destroyed after the 1980 loss to the US)

I would say Patrick is a good goalie yet all that he dose is go down to butter-fly. I would rather he try to be a stand up goalie for a night and see how good he dose. As for last years Stanly Cup I don't care what people say he lost he just couldn't take the pressure. That one goal that went in on his mistake, he just couldn't get his mind past it. I don't care if he is the best money goalie of all time, but he is starting to lose all his skill from season to season.

Not bad, but overrated. Has played his entire career with hall of fame defencemen. Chelios, Foote, Bourqe, Foote, etc. I'd like to see how he does on a bad team.

Waaahhhhh is a classic and a fantastic goal tender, but the guy needs to stay in the freaking net. Obviously it hasn't hurt him too much over the years, but hey, what about that pathetic showing against the Red Dings last year - remember the "statue of liberty" he did? Sure, he may have a great record, but watch him play one game and you'll realize he's been hit on the head one time to often. Takes risks no goalie should, and no, they don't always pay off for him.

Well onto the downside of his career

Best overall player in the NHL. He will be the one to take Gretsky's place as best player + ambassador. Only problem w/ him is he doesn't like too much attention from fans. I think he'll grow out of it soon
