i have a feeling this team will be number 1 in the nfc west but they need to improve the quarterbacks.

"You have to recognize what these teams have done in the past, but the present and future are what I am looking at. Terrible Offensive Line, holes in the defense, a quarterback who was drafted WAY, WAY to high, the wrong starter at runningback, and mediocre depth. Nolan will have this team winning in a couple of years but definately in the bottom 10 teams." - 8/13/2006

I am officially sitting down to a plate of Crow. I was wrong about the 49ers and the Jets. San Fran jumped 2 years ahead of where I thought they would be right now. I was correct about RB, and they corrected that and named Gore the starter. He was the difference for the 49ers this year. My only concerns for this team are the loss of Norv Turner and the loss of Antonio Bryant. Bryant is smug, over confident, and also the best WR this team had. But the strides they made last year should more than make up for the loss of Bryant. PREDICTION (Pre-draft) The 49ers have a much tougher schedule, and while they will do well in their own division they will struggle against their AFC opponents. 7-9 2nd in the NFC West behind Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers are a football team in arebuilding stage that is almost complete they have a soild quarterback in Alex Simth a good running back in Frank Gore and a ok offensive line. If they could get there defence worked out the 49ers may have and good team in 2007.

This team blows. It humors me how the people don't get "current" in the listing. They currently suck, no matter how many Superbowls they won. UPDATE: Wow, they looked like ass against the Cards. I'm gonna have to take them all the way down. There is no excuse in the world for getting beat down by Josh McCown. UPDATE: Put down the crack! They lost to the Cardinals. THE CARDINALS! UPDATE: Well, they set their fate by dealing Rattay and eliminating any competition Smith has for the starting job. Those expecting him to be Montana or Young will have to wait awhile.

A once proud organization has been dragged through the mud by current owner John York. He has fired the Head coach and the general manager now if the Niners can just get rid of York they will have a hat trick.Update: You have to feel bad for coach Nolan, he is trying every thing in the book and getting the same results. The glaring problem right now is the lack of depth which is sow due to all the injuries the team has suffered. The team on the field lack leadership, they should have brought back Jerry Rice for just that purpose alone. This once great dynasty is still being dragged in the dirt.

Well, obviously todays Niners are a mess thanks to salary cap hell but as far as all time, hmm lets see, only team with a sparkling 5-0 superbowl record, winningest team the last 25 years and the team that spawned 2 of the 3 highest rated qb's in history (guess who?)Too many nfl records overall to list. I'm just not even gonna comment on what some fools on this poll wrote like the guy who made up excuses for the lack of real compotision and Steves horrible rating against winning teams, lol. Just not acurate. Any Raider or Cowboy fan will post such illogical crap, usually. What the Niners have accomplished speaks for itself, there really isnt any arguing it. I mean, they were just shut out for the first time since 1977 a few weeks ago...yet another record they owned and one that will never be topped.

Better than last year (how could they not be?) but still bloody awful. The glory years are long gone, and any glory to come is far in the future.

Well, When you win 5 superbowls and are tied for most in the NFL then what can you say. Over 15 years of 10+ win season's is awesome. Yes, the team is hurting now with a bad owner, Coach and GM. Salary cap hell hasn't helped but you must say this team has all the rings.

ive loved this team ever since i saw joe montana drive them down the field in the last seconds of the game to beat the bengals in the superbowl in the silverdome in 1982. its too bad their level of play has dropped so dramatically in the last few years. but im glad the lions got tai streets off em =)

I thought the sharpie pen thing last year was funny, by T.O., but this year I have seen what this man truly is. A punk in a man's body. He has so much talent, but is so damn selfish and he has brought this team down with him. Garcia has never been more than above-average, but he was in the right system for him and it worked. He is more courage and willpower than talent, but he makes the right throws when he has to, although he seriously lacks on the deep ball. His feet get him out of trouble, but he's gotten banged up this year. The defense is not that good at all. They've been torched by some big plays this year, and I expect them to finish around 6-10. Niners fans, don't get excited by the spanking of the Rams last week, it was more the Rams playing badly than the 49ers playing well.

T.O needs to get his act together, he's starting to look like a child with the ranting and raving on the sidelines. Make some freaking plays and stop getting stomped by lackluster cb's. Garrison (sp.) is the bomb he needs to be the featured back and used more as a reciver out of tyhe backfield along with beasely. The defense is strong but needs some addittional strength in the interior to take some of the pressure off the linebacking core. Carter and Peterson are the two top defensive players around, screw ray lewis. Give us an offensive line w/ some cohesiveness and we'll dominate, hands down.....

The 40W-Hiners are league's most overrated team and here's why: for the last 10 years, the 49ers have averaged 9-to-10 losing teams on their schedule every single year. The majority of their wins have come against losers with horrible defenses. Over the same 10 years (with the exception of the Super Bowl 'win' over the 21st-ranked defense of the Chargers), the San Francisco has struggled against teams with winning records and the stats of the players that you all kiss ass upon are all inflated because of the lack of quality opponents. That's why the Niners always get their asses kicked in the playoffs. Did you know that Steve Young's CAREER rating against teams with winning records is a lowly 62.6? Oh, and the vastly overrated Jeff Garcia's rating against winners is worse at 54.3 So, as you can see....there is so much MORE to the 49ers "success" than meets the eye.

Firing Mariucci will prove to be the stupidest thing this organization has ever done. Dennis Erickson is the answer? I doubt it. Good luck trying to keep your offense competitive while rebuilding your defense from scratch (again). Mariucci led this club to a winning record during his years in San Fran when they were supposed to be rebuilding (read: crappy)... this is a reason to be fired? Walsh should just go ahead and coach the team himself again if he doesn't want to recognize talented coaches when he sees them.

Who would I rather have coaching my team, Dennis Erickson or Steve Mariucchi? I'd prefer Mooch, but breakdowns in the playoffs get some people fired. I thought Tampa made a mistake firing Dungy until they landed Gruden. But Dennis Erickson is no John Gruden. With a streaky quarterback, an arrogant bling-bling receiver, and a young, questionable defense ON TOP of having to slug it out with an upgraded St. Louis, it doesn't look like San Francisco will win the division. With the emergence of a quarterback in Seattle, San Fran may just be better than the Cardinals in the NFC West.

The Niners are the team of the decade not to mention the millenium. This team made most of the right moves in the 80's and 90's. No team, and that's NO team, has been as competitive as the Niners have been for as long as they were. I'd say that's proof enough of their greatness. The team has fallen on hard times, but that won't last for long. With the help of Walsh, this team will come back stronger, younger and better than ever. Their offense is good and their defense is only going to get better after this year's draft (I hope they grab a gifted DE or CB). J. Peterson is going to be a stud @ LB and T.O. is one of, if not the best young WR out there. Unlike da'cowboys, we've already started our rebuilding and will be back on top sooner than anyone will expect. If the Ravens and Rams can come from no where and take the crown, why can't we? Go Niners!!

I think the 49ers are under rated. They are a very young team who is in the rebuilding process and people expect them to act like they havent lost any people over the last few years. Remember they have 32 rookies on their roster this year, its like they are a college team, but they did give battles in St Louis and Atlanta considering they lost their whole team.

How the mighty have fallen. This team is now among the worst in the league with no signs of improving. They are in terrible shape with respect to the salary cap and there really isn't a whole lot of talent on the roster. Of course, if Steve Young were still playing, they would probably be in the playoff hunt.
