(Update) Move it to one star.No NFL team has the right to quit before October. Ever. This team quit on the coach and the fans. Adding insult to injury, the players are lashing out at the fans. . .as if the fans caused a loss to the Lions and a razor-thin victory over the Rams. Classic case of an owner who isn't smart enough to clean house and start over. Welcome to "Raiders East"(Old review)Overbloated and self-aggrandizing like much of the population of change-and-dominate-the-world-types who live here. . .A collection of solid players who haven't been coached well in years. . .Dan Snyder is people's exhibit A of an owner who cannot hire the right people without meddling. Many old-time Virginia Redskin fans do understand the game and are quite intelligent- and they deserve better than the present ownership of this proud franchise.

Once again, I wish I could give the Redskins a 3 3/4 stars. They have a good, solid defense, a good offensive line, and good RB Corp. In my mind their only question mark is the QB Position. They kept their aging QB, traded away Patrick Ramsey, and have no QB with any experience with Al Saunders. If Brunell can stay healthy, the Redskins will win their Division. They would then probably have to play the Wild Card round. With the wear and tear on Portis and Brunell, this team doesn't have enough to make it to a Super Bowl.

Believe me, it's not easy being a Redskins fan living in Dallas, TX. I became a Redskins fan as a young boy. I remember the exact moment that I realized I was a Redskins fan. I had just heard about John Riggins' awesome performances in his previous two playoff games leading to the Redskin's birth in the 1982 NFC Championship game against their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys were my dad's favorite team at the time. I remember Riggins inspiring performance in that game and during the second half, I noticed that even though my Dad and older brother were adamantly cheering for the Cowboys, I was more impressed with Riggins and the Redskins team. I remember stating this out loud to my Dad and he said that I was free to go for any team I liked. After Washington won the game I also remember watching the AFC Championship Game cheering for the Jets to beat the Dolphins because my logic was that Washington would have an easier time beating the Jets in the Superbowl. However, Miami won, but Washington had no problem beating them in the Superbowl, thanks largely to that awesome fourth down run for a TD by Riggins. I have followed the Redskins closely every since. I was a huge fan of Art Monk, Ricky Sanders, Gary Clark and Darrell Green. But, my favorite Redskins player of all time was Mark Rypien. I have only missed a couple of games since that day in 1983. I have seen the ups and downs, but have been dearly entertained. Although I have enjoyed the run of other teams in recent years (most notably, the Packers, Colts, Rams and Patriots), the Redskins are the only team I will ALWAYS root for not matter who they play. And because of this love for the Redskins team, I can never see myself cherring for the Cowboys, Eagles or Giants. I even still have a bad taste in my mouth for the Cardinals from when they were in the NFC East. Long Live The 'Skins.

The Redskins have a good defence but they do not have the offence.
pwright1 12/15/2004
Never liked the Redskins much and the owner is the absolute worst. Get him out. You can't buy a Super Bowl ring no matter how rich you are.
DRoxas 10/21/2004
Clinton Portis running the counter-trey.....now all they need is some hogs and just start the Riggins flashbacks..............OK so maybe I overestimated Gibbs just a little....so he's gotta clean the house up.....the Skins will return to prominance in 2005.
Tinkerbellexxx 09/11/2004

I am a big Spurrier fan after all he did for the Gators. It is tough seeing him go from being a god in Gainesville to whipping boy in the NFL. But I think it would be a mistake for him to go back to college for at least a few years yet. He already has the National Champ win, and has the most wins of any coach for their first 10 years in college football. What is there to go back for? Spurrier is all about the challenge, and while this must be frustrating, I think some part of him is glad to take this step, especially with the odds the way they are right now, and make a good place for himself in the NFL. I initially held him to blame for all the Redskin woes, but I have been amazed at how many people blame Snyder. A national radio program even tried to get everyone to boycott the game to protest Snide-er. I don't know how much he meddles, but a lot of people believe he is screwing things up. If Spurrier does leave it would be interesting if he did well reasonably soon while the Redskins struggled again. However, I have been of the opinion that a lot of the stuttering on offense is due to Ramsey. I saw this occur in the Gators as well. Spurrier's offense depends greatly on a very competent, talented, quick-thinking quaterback - basically an extension of Spurrier himself. When he has a quaterback that met that criteria (Matthews, Wuerffel, Grossman) they are almost unstoppable, the offense is very hard to defend against. But when a quarterback isn't clicking, even a talented one like Ramsey, then they struggle. Ramsey has been here almost two years and still doesn't always seem to get the strategy. He makes a lot of bad decisions, overlooks open receivers, doesn't place the ball where it needs to be with absolute precision, and drags the play out too long to the point the offensive line breaks down. Enter Hasselbeck. His performance on Sunday brought back the joy of watching Spurrier's Fun & Gun in college. He was killing the defense in the first half, the Dophins were reeling. They say that Hasselbeck understood the offense the first 30 days on the team, and sure enough he was out there moving the ball in his first real action in the NFL. I don't know that Hasselbeck is the answer, but with the playoff chances gone, I hope they go with the H-Man, and figure out if he is a solution, and if Ramsey is just not the right guy for this offense. Previously I would have rated this team a 2, but given that, as a friend pointed out, they have lost by mostly very close margins, and in the hope that Hasselbeck will get some starts to prove himself, I will go with a 3 and hope the 'Skins can do Ok the rest of the year.

This team has actually regressed from last year. They were below-average and now they're bad going terrible. Steve Spurrier has not adjusted to the role of an NFL coach very well at all. This team has paid so much for good players and have nothing to show for it. That stupid fun and gun scheme might work in college, but poor Patrick Ramsey is going to be dead before he reaches the end of the season if he doesn't get protected better. Spurrier is also responsible for letting Stephen Davis go because he "didn't fit into the system." Well look now the Panthers (with Davis) are 6-2 and the sorry 'Skins are 3-5. After 8 games, Davis is 8 yards shy of 1,000 yards and Spurrier's best running back has a grand total of 295 yards!!! For crying out loud is something wrong with this picture??? Dan Snyder better send Spurrier and his 5 million per yer tab back to coaching college after this year. It doesn't matter, because the Redskins are going to suck for a long time no matter who coaches them.
ahard 11/02/2003
the team is not a team, you are not playing together like a team.the team is out just chasing the ball. you have no leaders.

Dan Snyder is an embarrassment. He is in league with Chuck Barris.
TheMyth 04/11/2003
Losing Marvin Lewis hopefully wasn't disastrous for the defense. I know they were top 10, but when you look at the players they have, they could have done so much more this year now that they learned the system. Still, with the right coach, they should be an anchor for this team. If they can have a receiver emerge, and if young Patrick Ramsey can play with some consistency, they might do some damage this year.
President -X-D 04/04/2003
Steve Spurrier made some very poor decisions this past season. I really think he was wasting his time trying to start Wuerffel and Matthews; in the position the Redskins are in, he would have been better served to have the rookie Ramsey start as many games as possible, to determine whether or not they'll need to draft a QB in an early round. Wuerffel and Matthews have proven that they are sub-par in the NFL and Spurrier's experimenting with them should have ended halfway though the season. Snyder needs to continue spending money to benefit his club, but he truly needs to step away from all personnel decisions. Other than that, I've always had a soft spot for the Skins, and they have a long legacy of being one of the best all-around franchises in the NFL.
angusmacpherso n 04/03/2003
I sincerely hope that Dan Snyder spends himself broke on this team--and never has a single championship to show for it. Callous s.o.b...

10-6, Win East, Make it to Championship Game. And to everyone who doesn't like the skins who doesn't like the Skins because we have an owner who actually wants to win...See you in January watching us!

Skins had an Incredible offseason. They should now have on of the best offensive lines in all of football, one of the best and fastest recieving cores, a fast running back and still a great deffense. 11 - 5 mark my words!!! GO SKINS!!!
Rapscallion_6 03/11/2003
Awful, awful, awful name, I can't believe that any American could allow this racial slur to be used so non-chalantly for a team name. Change the name!

I have been a Washington Redskin fan for almost 50 years. Do or die they will always be my team. I was elated to finally get to see them beat Dallas this year! I don't care if they lose every other game as long as they beat Dallas I can get some satisfaction. I certainly hope that we can get it together next season. Finally, "I love you Darrell Green." You will be greatly missed!
lukskywlkr. 12/05/2002
They've won a few games, but Spurrier has not turned out to be the saviour they all thought he would be.
vabeacheagle 12/03/2002
Being a lifelong Eagles fan, I have always hated the Redskins. But I had to admit that they had one of the classiest organizations in the league with Cooke and Gibbs. Now they are the joke of the league. Rather than build the team from the foundation up, Snyder prefers to come up with quick fix gimmicks every year. As long as he is the owner, they will suck. Long may he reign!
Jason1972 10/31/2002
I love it when these guys beat Dallas.

I'm a long time 'skins fan (since 68). I'm excited about the 60's retro uniforms for next season. Hail to the Redskins!
agingpeacock 01/15/2002
An egotistical spoiled yuppie from hell owner. I feel sorry for Redskin's fans. If Snyder keeps his nose out of day to day team business and with his hiring of Spurrier as coach this team could be an up and comer. However, any proud Baltimorean has little to like about the Deadskins. When the Colts were ripped away from us, everyone (media and NFL commissioner) thought we shoud embrace the Washington Redskins and put up with no team. NOT!
Potch1214 11/29/2001
What a joke this franchise has turned into. Good!
e2bug 07/07/2001
Considering the money recently dished-out, I think the owner and the fans kinda' feel that sinking feeling you get when you leave the drive-through and that guy at the window forgot to put your super-size fries in the bag. Maybe we can get Deion to run 'em out to the car...if his little toe is healthy I mean...
MarkSumner 07/03/2001
They are the L.A. Dodgers of football. Overpay average overrated talent and fail to make playoffs. Enough said!!!!! Oh by way, Cowboys seem to have your number no matter how sorry they are.

Win or Lose, These are my boys. I have been a Redskin fan since I was a little kid. I am 37, and unlike some football fans, I love my team no matter what. They will always be a 5-star team in my eyes. Yes, they have struggled. They have changed head coaches, players, and even football arena's (only 5 minutes from the house I grew up in, and is still owned by my family). Hail to these guys! Now and Forever!!!!!

Brad Johnson is the best QB in the league. His efficiency is among the best and he is showing that his ability to score points was not a fluke in Minnesota.
gte44379du 02/24/2000
For the first time since Joe Gibbs era, the Washington Redskins seem to have a complete team which is above average in all areas. Brad Johnson has given the Redskins a great chance to making the playoffs.
clin3819om 01/29/2000
May finally have the QB in Johnson to lead them to a winning season.

The Washington Redskins are on the rise so the NFC East better watch.
pcow759om 01/10/2000
The Skins are playing their best football going into the playoffs, and having destroyed Detroit, it is not unrealistic to think they could handle Tampa Bay and (dare I say) go to the Show. With the #2 pick for next year (probably Lavar Arrington) and a bunch of other high draft choices, things look promising for a return to the glory days of the 80s.

Rookie cornerback Champ Bailey will be the next Darrell Green.
