Built his career on JUCO talent (just like Barry Alvarez in Wisconsin), and although some people might say that JUCO talent is fools gold, there was really no choice. Even after all his years of success, it was nearly impossible to get blue-chip high school talent into Manhattan. They should put up shrines to him in Coffeyville and Dodge City. And you Husker fans: don't sneer at Snyder. Look and see the percentage of JUCO players in Bill Callahan's last two recruiting classes (7 out of 19 so far in 2006, 12 out of 32 in 2005).

Has done something that no other coach has ever done. Take a crapy team to a national power house. You may not like him because you are fans of another school but you can't disreguard what he has done for the program. I garantee you he makes College Football Hall Of Fame and when that happens you can no longer say he sucks. Because you you know it's not true. You may not like him as a person but he is one hell of a coach! And if you still want to say he sucks, well that just goes to show you how little you know about football and how narrow minded you are.
HuskerBeliever 07/28/2005
Finishing second to last in the Big 12 North and ending the long-standing winning streak against KU does not make you a great coach. This guy clearly doesn't have the right stuff

Had one of the best backs in the nation and they still underachieved.
dunaway05 02/22/2005
he is known for giving his team a lollipop schedule, he gets no respect from me.
GIS 02/09/2005
Great coach. Built KSU into a powerhouse with JUCO's every year. Does anybody know how tough it is to put winners together in one year with many Junior College Transfers? Light schedule helps but beats top teams too. Undefeated Oklahoma learned that in 2003 showing you Stoops is not as good as Synder. Stoops had far more talent but got blown away. Synder Rules!

Has produced great teams and coaches.

I think what snyder has done is remarkable. Kansas state does not get any top players. They build diamonds from coal. Kansas State has become a power house which wins on a constant basis. The NC schedule is bad but it will be same for most schools soon as no one would would want a loss. They should havev been in the championship game in 98. I don't think he is the best coach in football but he certainly ranks among the top tier of coaches. It is unfair in my mind not to bestow greatness on a coach if he has not won a championship. 4 stars in my mind ..may be 4.25

Built a program from scratch, and did it cleanly.

Kirk Hatch 10/30/2004
Not only a great coach but Stoop, Mangino and Stoop came from his squads.
Carol Olack 10/26/2004
Does more things with less talent than any coach today.
runfromme 10/24/2004
Fantastic coach. Only 1 NCAA probe (which K-State submitted), plays ligit teams (beat USC in 01 and 02), does it the K-State way!
AG Mines 09/17/2004
Puts a team together in one year.
NCAAStatNut 09/07/2004
Forget about the non-conference (anyone remember them beating a great USC team a couple years back? And still they complained.), and let's talk about IN CONFERENCE. K-State has the best road record in the Big XII conference, and the most overall wins against the conference since its inception. More than OU, Texas or Nebraska.
Glad-ImNotMackBrown 07/28/2004
Snyder sucks, he has great talent...but plays crap teams. If you want to play big time ball...you don't schedule bad teams just to improve your record. Snyder your a sham of a coach.
FireDragon 07/11/2004
He has done wonders at KState but i give him a 4 because of his weak scheduling practices...

I don't know if there is anyone in college football that is more dedicated than this guy

bill synder is a great head coach he took over the worst major D-1 college football team and made them good also heres something K-State has been in a bowl game almost every year and when he took the program had won 37 percent of its games his teams can will 11 games most years he is great at recurting as said earlier no wanted sporles and hes a frontruner for the heismen no one want T-newmen and he all he did was become the number 5 pick in the nfl draft (cowboys) but also k-state doesnt need to schdule tough nc games becaue how hard the big 12 k-state is gonna be the first team to win 60 confrence games but i do understand what some are saying how about the weak non-confrnce and about the Ell roberson decsion if hadnt started k-state would of lost by more we didnt have a very good back up he has the abilty of turning these kids no one wants in to great playes also k-state has in the 10 in the ncaa defence of ratings 5 of the last 6 years and u dont here ppl talking about there d also name the last team to beat usc twice in a row wait thats k-state the only way bill synder gets better is if he wins a few more big games and one of these u will see k-state play a tough nc every he the best coach ever

I'm a K-state fan, but I realize that K-state is a regional power, and due to economics, will be for some time. That said, the prowess of creating a continously 11 win football team between Lincoln and Norman is a huge accomplishment. K-State never gets the tops athletes, and due to its location away from the Miami, USC's, and Austin texas' of the world, it never will be. That said, Bill Synder has used every ounce of potential from his players to create the best situation for his team. Playcalling ability/stress: 7(Marshall)-10 (OU) Recruiter: 7.5 (consistent top 20 in a stadium across the street from a wheatfield), Systematic Development of Talent: 10+ Nobody wanted the 5'6 Darren Sproles, RB (ku turned him down) -- he's now a early heisman favorite. Doak Award winner Terrence Newman was another nobody-cum-Superstar. Josh Buhl is a 5'7 210 LB who led the Big 12 in Tackles last season, and will probably never get to start in the NFL.. the guy squeezes every once of potential from his players, despite a 1998 Big 12 Fiasco (his worst moment) or a 2003 OU v KSU upset (his finest).

A great coach, best in the nation. How was he able to bring back a 1 win team to a dominate team?
kougar24 03/02/2004
Snyder is easily the best coach in the country.
KSUadam 03/02/2004
Simply put: Possibly one of the best coaches ever
kat84 03/02/2004
Has fought an uphill battle from the start, and continues to improve the status of the program.
soonerorlater 03/02/2004
The Greatest turnaround in college football period. Just put a conference title bybeating what was touted as the Greatest team ever, and still has enough years in him to run for a title.
LtMike 09/08/2003
How can you not say this isn't one of the better of our era? His records and the coaches he spits out are amazing
Turtleboy 06/13/2003
Would rate him higher if K-State played someone other than the Kansas School for the Blind or the Wichita School for Girls.
BassHawg 02/27/2003
My high school team could win most of the games on his schedule every year.
KevinWay 12/28/2002
Led the greatest turn around in college football history by making Kansas State a winner. Great.
