One of the best ever at every school he ever coached at in his career and the NFL.

A great coach that has won anywhere he went and built up Programs at Arkansas, Minnesota and South Carolina. Did a good job at Notre Dame too.

Wherever Lou goes, teams wins. He even got William and Mary into a Bowl Game. He resurrected an absolutely horrible (winless) South Carolina team into a bowl team. He didn't do that great as an NFL coach.

Great motivator, has won everywhere he's been, hasn't had the greatest success at South Carolina but has put the program in a lot better shape

OK, here I am commenting on something I know very little about, but here goes: I'll never forget when Lou Holtz was the Arkansas Razorbacks'coach and the Razorbacks became the #1 college football team in the nation. He appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Arkansans were so proud of him. He had a few great years with Arkansas, but then he tried to get involved in political issues, and thus ended his career with the University of Arkansas.

did well at Notre Dame while his players were using roids, and has only produced a couple of mediocre teams at South Carolina -- not all that bad considering the depths to which the Cocks had sunk

Lies to recruits and runs a dirty program. I guess back to back 5-7 seasons, and no bowl games doesn't mean anything? It's time for granny to retire. uSC sucks!!

Coach Holtz...good coach. Should have waited for JoePa to retire (but he may never retire). He would have been a great coach to succeed the winniest coach in Div I history. I have great respect for Lou Holtz! He would have been my choice to replace JoePa had Joe ever retired before 2002.

In Lou Holtz, you have a supreme motivator who knows how to get the most out of his athletes. He also has a way of inspiring those around him, even off the football field. The job he has done at South Carolina cannot be over-emphasized--here you had a team that had been poorly-coached and out-recruited for years, with a terrible attitude towards life and towards the game of football. Lou Holtz has changed all of that, and has made the win-hungry fan base and student population at USC proud of their team once again. I salute you, Lou Holtz--best of luck to your family and to the University of South Carolina.

After taking an 0-11 team to a bowl win in the toughest conference in all of college football, how can anyone NOT think he's great?

A miracle worker. Anyone who can turn around a moribound 0-11 team in the SEC in 1 season must be doing something right.

Lou Holtz is a Grimey, Hard-working coach who believes if you not winning, you Better lose playing Hard. His practice is Harder than the game. He is a no-joke Type coach.
