I want a job that pays a premium for 14 years of mediocrity and then offers a "special advisory" position to me on my way out the door because of fear of fallout. Most folks for whatever reason never get to work the job in life that they really want. And a lot of folks, unfortunately, could not tell you what real happiness in life is as a result. RC has had perhaps the best coaching position in the world for 14 years now. I say that because College Station is a nice small town to live in, but offers a national football stage. Games are played in Kyle Field which gets bigger and better every year. And there is not an easier sell for great highschool players in Texas. If A&M would ever win the big games on a consistent basis, they would have no competition in recruiting. Check out what Texas and Texas A&M both have to offer and tell me if you don't feel the same way. This insight comes from someone who went through the recruiting process. Most kids want to get out of the house, but remain close to their families. Logistically speaking, Texas A&M's location in Central Texas is very strategic. Season after season, it's the same thing. A&M will be a top 20 team at the years beginning and swiftly drop from that status. Take the Virginia Tech game this season. That was a wonderful opportunity to take another step. I knew they would lose that game even though they have the talent to win it. It's hard to get ready for a national contender by playing McNeese State. Nothing against Mcneese, they do a wondeful job with about 40 fewer scholarships per year. The law of averages will tell us that if you continue to do the same things over and over you will get the same result. Kudos to Texas A&M officials for doing not just the right thing...but the intelligent thing as well. RC was an average coach with a good defense. Let's honor his memory by bringing in someone who will win the big one!! Gig 'em!!

Aggie football is like a corporation. This corp's product is football wins. Until yesterday, the AG Football Cor. had a highly paid CEO whoes early performance was beyond expectationsat a time when rival coprorations, producing the same product, were weak. However, product competition soared in the recent past and AG FB, Inc.cannot compete. The Corporate image is "mediocre", the product highly unrelaible. If it issued stock, it would be rate B minus or C. Time to bring in a "turnaround" CEO. And that's not unproven Gary Kubiak.

I think RC is the best coach in college football. All us "teasips" think RC is tip top. If A&M is smart they will keep him until he croaks and then hire his equally talented son. I love the man, and everyone else in Austin loves him too.

I give RC a 3 and thats for 30yrs of what just a conference championship here and there its time for the next step or we will end up getting in a recruiting war with baylor instead of tu. God help us that this won't happen. Kudos to Tech bragging rights this year and a possible sleeper for some great recruits as well. Thanks alot RC.

I'm not an aggie, but I used to be an avid aggie football fan. I don't bother to attend, or watch or listen to the games anymore. The games are simply boring. Is Slocum to blame? I think yes.

I gave RC a 4 because I have a lot of respect for him and what he has done for the football program over the years. He is not perfect and he has called some plays that I certainly have called to question. I do agree that if we pay him a lot of money, the 12th Man should expect him to win as well as any other supporter. I don't believe he is past his prime, and I don't believe he should be fired. I have been to allmost all the home games this season, and I have heard a lot remarks about RC when a play was badly executed. I am ashamed that other Aggies give another Aggie that much disrespect. Being a part of the 12th Man means to stand behind the team, no matter who is good or bad. Overall, RC is an outstanding coach, but I certainly believe he could improve on his performance during the game. We are a young team this year with a lot of potential, and I am more than confident that RC can lead us out of the slump we are in.

DO NOT BE DECEIVED!!! Slocum is only a high winning percentage coach because of the South Western Conference(SWC). Go ahead and figure his record as a Big XII coach and then reconsider. Since the Big XII's inception in 1996, he has been 53-31. Thats a 56.4% winning percentage. How mediocre can you get? The answer is this: Slocum is the wrong guy. He is, however, an asset as well. He is one of the best recruiters in the nation. Each year he has a top ten recruiting class, usually top five. Its the business on the field that he is weak in. Every team knows that when they play A&M, they can expect on each set of downs, at least 2 draw plays. A&M is a great school for up and coming punters to play for, but quarterbacks, kickers, and tight ends do not get much attention, but have been lately. In short, Slocum compiles a sweet arsenal of talent, then gets out-coached during the course of the year and end up in prestigoeous bowls like Galleryfurniture.Com. Well, i'm sure the players enjoy the furniture contributions, but I, frankly, am emabarrased. Boo Slocum. He needs to be moved to Athletic Director. Make room for change and finally bring in Gary Kubiak, who is frothing at the mouth. Boo Slocum!!

Its time for RC to quit acting like Richard Nixon in his final days and pack it in. We're probably going to find out in the next few weeks that OU was not that good to begin with. I'll give him credit for recruiting McNeal but thats about it. RC is past his prime (if he was ever at his prime). He's a good guy but come on, continuing to put 15 year old Jimmy Johnson quotes on how good RC is in the media guide is a little embarrassing. Its time for a Bum Bright type to step in and fire him! He doesn't know beans about offensive football, he is a horrible field general and terrible in time management, he plays not to lose instead of to win and is happy as a lark if they end up 7-5. For one million dollars a year...TU is laughing up a storm...the same way we laughed at them for keeping Fred Akers. President Gates...show some guts...get rid of him! Yeah, all the liberals and goody too shoes will whine for a few weeks...but the vast majority of Ags will applaud. Next year will be much worse, all our hard games are away!

The only reason Slocum is the sixth mosting winingest coach is because we play schools that are the NCAA equivalent of 3A High School Football. We have not been able to recruit on offense in years, and our famous wrecking crew is a pathetic excuse for a defense this year. No wonder all the star athletes go to UT or out of state.

I don't know what kind of Ags yall are, but I'm glad your selling your season tickets cause I don't want fans like you in the stadium anyway. RC is a wonderful man and a exceptional coach. He is one the top 5 winningest active coaches today and yall want to fire him? This school is 2nd in the state and always will be to UT. We won the conference just 3-4 years ago (1998). It will be our turn again under RC soon enough, you just watch.

toobad a "0" rating wasnt available. This man has had a great run but its time to move on. Its amazing how Texas can have a coack go 7-5 and get him ran out of town. But college station always seems to embrace mediocrity!! Is that Terry Bowden I here laughing? hopefully

I am tired of watching a losing team week after week. There is no reason Texas A&M can't have a national championship team but it is not going to happen if R.C. remains the coach. Now is the time to replace him. They say that money talks and after this season I will no longer donate money to the athletic program as I am tired of watching it go to waste. If they fire R.C. and find a talented coach who wants to win I will start contributing again. I encourage all of you to do the same!

This man should have been killed a long time ago. He's about the worst coach ever to step on a football field. The man's a friggin' idiot. I cancelled my season tickets I've held for over ten years this year because I'm sick of watching the poor excuse of a team he puts together each year. A&M should recruit my butt-cheeks to do a better job than R.C. Chokum!

We whine and cry about respect - we want to be looked at as a top program like ND, Penn State, Florida, FSU, Miami and god forbid texas - and yet we still allow RC to paint magic dreams and weave fantasies of a winning season when these programs make coaching changes after a 7-5 season. No great programs tolerates average. No program but A&M would live with this. ND is now 8-0 because they took a chance. Maybe our next choice sucks as bad as RC but that is a risk GREAT programs are willing to take. FIRE RC!

I was FORCED to select a one star rating, because this website does not have a zero star or better yet, negative stars option! I've benn screaming for RC Chokum's firing since 1996. That's a rather long time. I'm tired of having a 3rd rate football program, no too mention a total embarassing record of late against rival schools. The Ags are slowly but surely slipping into mediocrity, and I quite frankly do not care how bad the program was from the 1950s-70s! That was then and this is now!!! He is a million-plus dollar a year waste of money! For all you "Old Ags" out there that keep saying we won't be able to get a truly great coach to come to A&M, that's bull because as we all know money talks! Their are a lot of absolutely fantastic and innovative coaches out there that do not earn anything close to 7 figures! So, that already makes the "Old Ags" argument rather asinine!

How can Stoops or Brown turn a loosing progam into national contenders in only 3-5 years, but R.C. can't do it in 14? New Name: "Slcum".....ain't got no "O". Super Gentleman + Average Recruiter + Good Defensive Coach + Poor Offensive Coach = Average Coach. Don't the Ags want to be better than average?

R.C. is a decent recruiter, but he doesn't play to win, he simply plays not to lose. The Aggies have had a powerful defense forever, but the offense has been less than mediocre for far too long. With all the talent that A&M gets in every year, they should be a lot better than they are. Firing Wally Groff was a good start. Now replace R.C. with Gary Kubiak from the Denver Broncos (whose contract is up at the end of this season) and you will have a nation championship worthy team in no time.

RC puts together a strong team every year, but they choke the big game far too often
