Overall Rating:3.61 based on 236 ratings
Born in 1977, Vince Carter was selected out of North Carolina by the Golden State Warriors as the fifth overall pick of the 1998 NBA Draft. Immediately traded to the Toronto Raptors, "Half Man, Half Amazing" was a runaway winner of Rookie of the Year honors, leading the Raptors in scoring. In 2000, The 6-7 forward was selected to his first NBA All-Star Team and won the NBA Slam Dunk contest. (Add picture)

He is just not dominant enough to be an elite player, but he is as close as you get. Got to love the dunks.

Vince Carter's one of the best players in the leauge today and also the best dunker in the NBA. He can basicly do everything on the offensive end and is a an OK defender. Who cares if he left the Raptors?! The Raptors made it to the play-offs anyways. So just stop whining and get over it. He has not even missed a single game in the 06-07 season including the play-offs. He only got injured in his late years as a Raptor just to get traded. Since he came to Jersey he misssed like 6 or 7 games. He had carrer highs of 25.2 ppg 6 rebounds and 4.8 assists in the 06-07 season in 82 games. Just because he turned the ball over at the last second in game 4 doesnt mean anything. He had huge buzzer beaters against Washington, Utah and Charlotte this season.

Vince Carter is one of the best players in the NBA.

Just by watching the playoffs this year (2007), you can see that Carter is a turnover machine. I'm glad Nets fans can now see what a fraud he is. He is just good for a few circus shots a year, and a dunk if he's having a good day. He is not a consistent player, and he is a loser. He is a Loser, because teams he plays for lose, due to him taking too many stupid shots!

Carter is Probably the best Slam Dunkman of all time. He shows it in every All-Star games he's in. Out of a 100% he would get a 98%. He's put's effert in his game.

No, wrong Carter, but the Gomer reference rates a helpful from this jarhead. Vince is a would be Jordan who is sadly not. Plus I heard the Sergeant is a better rebounder.

Carter stepped his game up tremendously when he went to the Nets, but he still has his off days...too many of them to give him a perfect 5. (One of the most exciting dunkers the game has ever seen, though...maybe THE best.)

A legend in his own mind. Where would he be if they outlawed the dunk? This is the kind of guy that impresses people who have no respect for the game. A crybaby, whining, perennial loser. Way too high up on this list. Enjoy watching those highlight films while your team goes down in the first round of the playoffs.

I really enjoy watching him dunk on people, but his game is erratic at times, his defense is suspect and his mid-range shot is not very good. He is the type of player that might get more credit than he deserves because so many of his plays make the highlight reel. I think you might make the argument that he is not even the best player on his own team.

Carter's only main problem is his irritating slew of injuries. Quit getting injured already! Or play through the pain. You don't see The Answer quitting every time he gets a little banged up do you? When he's in, he's awesome and deserves more attention than he's gotten so far.

Thanks, Wince! You just helped us realize how much better off we are without you. The now Air Jersey (which sounds horrible, btw..Air Canada was way better) may be big in NJ now, but watch out - this guy is absolutely the worst player when it comes to patience and loyalty. I WAS a big fan of VC, but when you leave your team just b/c they aren't doing so well and claim to love the game, you're not worthy to be an NBA player at all.

Vince Carter hasn't been trying hardest in Toronto, and fans are paying to support him. Toronto fans has supported Vince Carter while he was injured BUT this guy admitted to not trying hard. I'm disappointed in the attitude displayed by Vince and I have heard rumours of Vince Carter giving out one of Toronto plays during their match against Seattle. Alright lack of effort and giving out plays to opposing team, what can you say? Vince Carter is not a professional player, he's just a corrupted little child playing in the nba.

I live near Toronto, and I can tell you that I stayed on the Carter bandwagon longer than anybody. I defended him through all his injuries. But this season, even I gave up on him. And for those that still defend him, for God's sake, he admitted he stopped trying! I wouldn't be surprised if fans started throwing stuff at Carter the next time he's at the ACC. Hell, someone might go Monica Seles on him. I'm not saying I want it to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised. That's how much Raptor's fans have grown to loathe Carter.

If you like Vince because you live in NoCal or FLA, or admire his athleticism, that's fine, but let's not confuse that with what he brings as a baller. His ass in an All-star jersy is disrespect to a baller that gets left at home cuze he didn't sling a ball through his legs 5 years ago. Here's the breakdown: THE GOOD - style, flash, pizzaz... nobody looks better when in the zone. - talent... the man oozes it. - charisma... yup yup. - jump shot... even with his wack-ass fade-aways he still cans plenty. - DUNKS. PERIOD. (not so much these days tho) - ability to take over a game offensively... hasn't done this in awhile though. - Balanced person without a huge ego... very refreshing. THE BAD - D... for a player with his physical gifts, his D is OFFENSIVE. - Doesn't move well without the ball... usually just goes through the motions (check Reggie Miller for the how-to on this). - Poor fundamentals (always fading on the jumper, always going for the steal or block instead of doing a Bruce Bowen impersonation and MOVING YO FEET). - Lacks leadership ability... getting max money but doesn't want to assume the responsibility. - Lacks intensity (smiling and yucking it up from tip to final whistle). - Doesn't hit the weight room in the offseason. Most pro's build their bodies... VC looks like the same freshman at UNC all these years later. - Doesn't work on his game in the offseason. Jordan added a dimension each year... Vince is regressing. I like Vince as a person. He was always about teamwork and sharing the glory. He's a balanced human being and that's why he doesn't put everything into basketball like MJ did. But he's getting MAX money, and with that comes expectation. I heard a quote from his Mom (worst adivsor ever) saying she told him not to take too many risks on the basketball court... good advice from a Mommy, but not for a guy that is supposed to be leaving it on the court (like for instance A.I.). He even admitted to John Thompson the other day that he didn't bring the intensity in Toronto cuz he was so talented. You can blame the Raps all you want, but the franchise player must take a lions share of the blame. For hells sake he flew to his damn graduation when he was playing for a spot in the Eastern Conference finals... Mark my words, Vince might get into every All-star game until the end of his career cuz of wack-ass basketball fools that still vote for his ass over more deserving players, but he won't ever win a championship as the #1 guy... EVER.

This guy is one of the biggest babies in the NBA. All he seems to care about is looking cool. When asked what his top goals in life were he said, making it to the NBA and having his own shoe. Notice there is nothing about winning a championship or even anything team related. This idiot actually had the gull to request Dr J to be hired as the GM. Who on earth would hire a man with no coaching experience and a man who has no clue how to run and manage a club. He doesn't seem to care that his team would be run into the ground. He lacks the heart and determination to win. The man seems content on jacking up jump shot after jump shot, even if he is missing them all. He is most certainly not a team player. Carter hogs the ball and doesn't care about the team. He is always injured and is always whining about this or that. He has a bloated ego even though he has not accomplished anything noteworthy in the NBA. His big claim to fame is that he won the 2000 Dunk Competition and he didn't want to give up his 2003 All-Star spot to Michael Jordan. Someone needs to tell him looking cool during a dunk doesn't mean squat when it comes to winning games. How can a man who was injured for 30 games not want to give up his starting spot to the greatest player ever? Talk about selfish. If things don't go his way, he starts crying like a 3 year old that has his bottle taken away. Charles Oakley was right about this man. He lacks the balls to do anything great in the NBA. Hopefully his career will end prematurely with the likes of Larry Johnson, Isiah Rider and Shawn Kemp. UPDATE Nov 23 2004: RAPTORS' CARTER NOT DUNKING ANYMORE. Enough said. Carter is pathetic. At this point I'd trade him for a cardboard cut out of Lebron James.

Certain people don't have a clue when they're calling Carter a ball-hog. If anything, he is reluctant to go to the rack and passes too often to set up his mediocre teammates. Still one of the best dunkers and most athletic players ever, and when he's motivated basically no one can stop him.

Anybody who thinks VC is soft and doesn't want to win, I ask you to look at some tape of the '98 Tarheels. And I'm sick of hearing about his injuries. If you are injured, you are injured . What can ya do? And he still always comes back before he is ready. And ask the guys at the Rucker if VC is soft. If that doesn't convince you, tell your favorite player to stand under the rim when he is coming at it with a nasty look on his face. And he only wants out of Canada because they are giving him nothing to play with. They are selling out the Arena because of him - why should they dish out cash for players when VC is already selling out the arena every night? Hell, I'd want out of a content to suck franchise myself. I know his heart and I know it's big. The same goes for will to win. You people actually think a Carolina boy who played under Smith and Guthridge doesn't want to win? Not possible. He wouldn't have made it past freshman year, trust me. Hey, Vince, no matter what happens on the court, no matter people say, folks in this state will love you always. REAL BASKETBALL PEOPLE. REAL FAMILY. PEOPLE THAT UNDERSTAND THE GAME AND UNDERSTAND YOU. KNOW THAT. Hey man, I'd want out of that f%cking frozen tundra myself. There is a place better than the rest. A place where the sky is that unmistakable shade of blue. A place where the girls are pretty and the weather is warm. A place where basketball is a religion. A place called North Carolina where millions still love you. Remember that. And we'll have you the leading vote getter for the All Star game again buddy. F canada!

Vince Carter is the biggest pansy in the league. Last season he ran into Stan Van Gundy (Heat coach who is maybe 5'9 165) and Carter went down like a ton of bricks and rolled around on the floor for a while. Van Gundy didn't even go down and after the game he had a black eye to show for it. Carter has no desire and no heart to go with his skills. The Raptors should dump him now while he still has some value.

I think Vince Carter is a outstanding player. I live in Toronto and I watch every raptors game. Everybody put him down because He was injuried for the past few years, but he didn't really bother what everybody else thought of him, he continued to play hard, I mean that shows some character. It's really bad that such a good player is on a slow team. I couldn't believe how many times he saved the Raptors from losing. With his acrobatic moves, skills and good sportsmanship, he will get the MVP award one day.

Maybe some of the greatness he has been projected to display over the long run will surface, but Carter is an example of too much hype placed on an individual in this league. Is he good? Yes, but I can think 15, maybe even 20 players I would take on my team before him. He plays very little "D", and he has an inconsistent outside shot. He's a highlight film player so far in his career, but the rest of his game lacks substance.

I would give my favorite b-baller a 5 star more for his natural raw athleticism and potential that he has and is capable of achieving. Also for where his team would be or wouldn't be without their star player. Kobe and his cousin TMac have already surpassed him as the best young players in the game right now. He has been a no show the last couple of years and has to prove himself that he can lead his team. It's ashame to see 2 great players like Kobe and TMac play and live up to their fullest potential and not see a player like Vince live up to his fullest. He is arguably the most talented and athletic player in the game who has happened to get by with good performances from if he was an average player and pathetic from a superstar player perspective. Vince Carter has been sliding. When he starts to develop his killer instinct I believe he will be even more unstoppable then he was before and he will be a better defender and wiser player. If Vince Carter is the true star that I think he is he'll be able to bounce back and surprise everyone.

Vince Carter is an awesome Ball Player; however, I don't think he has the great of person or a team player. Just recently he adamantly refused to offer his position on the All-Star team up for Michael Jordan. This man had been injured roughly all season and was given a starting position on the all star team, clearly unfair. Michael Jordan in his last season had the potential to go for his last all-star game but will be unable to now. Two or three seasons ago Vince decided to go to his graduation ceremonies rather than warm up before game seven against the 76ers who eventually won the series due to a last second shot that Vince missed. Academics is important, but the graduation was a ceremony; Carter is a leader for his team and he left them when his guidance could have been the differences. His selfishness is apparent and his sportsmanship is poor, sorry Vince.

I am one of the biggest Canadian basketball fans and it hurts every day to see our millions being spent on an icon that rides the pine because of his supposed "sore knee". It's simple, he doesn't like Tdot. I have nothing but faith in him when he actually does play, but I'm sick of watching the highest paid "pine riding" B*tch in the league, take my countries money. Vince Carter is a tremendously incredible basketball player. He does it all. He dazzles fans with his showstopping, gravity defying dunks. He is the king of showcasing imaginative dunks. He has contributed so much to the Toronto Raptors, that he will be dearly missed if he leaves. Vince Carter works extremely hard to be excellent in all areas of the game of basketball, and it is no wonder that in the near future he will answer any doubts of not being the greatest basketbal player to ever play the game. For thoughs of you who do not know how to appreciate a basketball player as talented as Vince, then you don't have passion for the game, your just full of trash talk, no action whatsoever, and besides vince doesn't have to be the next michael jordon, hes already the first carter, why go for mj. I'd like to also say if you have negative comments to say, keep them to yourself, and i know people have th
