Maybe the best coach in the league. Twenty winning seasons and only one losing one with the Jazz -- a major accomplishment considering how difficult it must be to get basketball players to stay in white, conservative, teetotaling Utah. Rick Majerus only needed players to come for four years, but Sloan kept his two stars, Malone and Stockton, playing together for what I think must have been a record number of seasons.

The Utah Jazz were predicted before the end of the pre-season that they would only win 7 games for the whole year. The Jazz weren't as good as they were a few years ago, but they are also rebuilding a new team right now and that takes time. Every team has ups and downs. The Jazz almost made the playoffs last year, and that by far exceeded the number of wins than what was expected. Jerry Sloan is an excellent coach and it's beginning to show now that the big stars aren't taking the credit away from him. Yes he has never won a championship, and he probably never will, but that doesn't mean he can't coach well. People are still winners if they don't get the gold, not everybody will get 1st.

Jerry Sloan has been around quite some time as NBA coach (16 years ? that's quite some time) those period speaks to itself of how well he's doing as a coach (it amazed me even after stockton and malone left the JAZZ). he's such a serious and tough coach (much like popovich) which he only cares about winning; not much sweet talk with press, not a lot of interviews, he just look angry and mad all the time on the court. he's so very consistent that he never had a losing season (in JAZZ) yet never won a championship

No Stockton, no Mailman, and he still has them in the playoff hunt, and not in the East, either.

The most underrated coach in the game!!! Everyone thought that Stockton and Malone carried this team, but actually it was the basketball knowledge, leadership, and overall coaching ability of Jerry Sloan. The fact that the Jazz are above .500 with names like Arroyo, Lopez, Kirilenko, Bell, and Stevenson prove this point. Never won Coach of the Year award but should have about 3 right now with his best job coming this year.

I've always been a big fan of Jerry Sloan. His teams play with discipline and an understanding of the game, which is clearly a reflection of Sloan as a coach. I remember a couple of years ago when Stockton and Malone were still on the top of their games, Sloan started to take steps to reduce their minutes - not because they couldn't handle a lot of minutes, but because Sloan was planning for the future. He knew that he could squeeze out several more productive years from his workhorses if he could shorten their seasons by reducing their minutes. Now it is 2000, and Stockton and Malone are STILL playing productive basketball, and the Jazz are still winning games.
