I hated his song about the taxi cab. Didn't he end up dying in a car crash?

I'm not much for "soft" rock- (rocks are at least somewhat "hard" by definition, right?)but Harry Chapin gets 5 stars for the Taxi Driver tune alone.Great Narrative!(the one that ends,"Now some men mighta been angry, and some men mighta been hurt-but I took that 20 dollar bill & I stuffed it in my shirt")

One of the best. His song Taxi is a classic and most of his songs have powerful lyrics.

Harry's untimely death robbed the world of an important voice. He was wonderful.

Decent singer songwriter, and did a lot of commendable charity work.

Harry was the best of his generation.

Harry wasn't perfect. His follow-up to Taxi was as much of a mistake as Godfather 3. His best-known song, Cats in the Cradle, is a little too syrupy for my taste. But, at his best, he could write songs that were hauntinly effective and thought-provoking.

Harry Chapin did not die in a plane crash. He was killed in an auto accident on the Long Island Expressway in 1981. He was a talented artist and poet.

He sang two classics: "Flowers Are Red," and (best of all) "Cat's in the Cradle." I don't like this style of music if anyone else does it. Harry Chapin was one of a kind.

One of the most philanthropic singer/songwriters in rock history. R.E.M. and U2 definitely took a page from Harry Chapin's book. A great man who gave constantly of himself and his finances. He was the first rock star to realize he could use his fame to help out world causes. Died tragically in a car crash about 20 years ago, but is still remembered fondly by his contemporaries and fans. A great songwriter, too!

Nice harmless music but devoid of any real passion and I can think of a thousand better voices. Light rock radio was made for this guy's music.

Harry Chapin was a very good song writer. His songs had good music, but the lyrics are good enough to stand by themselves without the melody. Harry was a great storyteller, and his songs are great poetry, with a good beat. It is sad that he had to die so soon.

"Taxi" is an amazing song. My dad saw him in concert and said it was great, plus Harry past around a collection plate to raise money for charity (a little fact: the high-pitched voice you hear singing that bridge in "Taxi" is Harry's big cello player). Harry had a great voice and songwriting ability, and a talented wife too. Someone's adding some good artists to the list: Jim Croce and Harry Chapin who both died in plane crashes. And though neither of them were extremely revolutionary in the music world, they've put out a lot of good, beautiful folk music. Good personalities, too.

When people can play the guitar as good as Harry Chapin, they can retire from everything else. His songs are not typically my style, but in this case that's OK. I love "Cats in the Cradle", "Taxi", and "W-O-L-D"! It's too bad Harry never got a chance at a long career (he passed away a while ago---died in a plane crash) because I'm positive that if he had, he'd have written zillions more masterpieces. He's not like some people who just write the same song over and over again. Each of his songs is unique in music and lyric. Whatever the case may be, Chapin is one of the most underrated singers of all time. No one male singer is as good as Paul Simon, but Chapin is one of the closest to him.
