Seriously...how could Pete be anything less than 5 stars? No one will ever accomplish what he has... and he did it in 3 years!!

The numbers don't lie. I can just hear he opposing coach saying, "Come on guys, let's see if we can hold Maravich to under fifty tonight." I'll mention this just one last time; The ratings go to five. Pete gets a five!

Pistol Pete scored 44.2 points per game and no one has come close to that mark despite the fact the NCAA have made it EASIER to score. - 3 point line - shot clock - liberalization of "palming/ carrying" rules Remember Pete once hit 30 out of 31 free throws in a game in Oregon. No one has ever scored that much from the line in a regulation game.

pete maravich was obvisously one of the greatest college players of all-time.He has almost every scoring record and many others. Even though his team never one it all or even made it far in the tourney, he still carried his team far. He was the best college player of all-time with the big O not far behind.

Greatest showman of all time. Only Oscar was a better college player. Pete scored more because he had to. LSU did have two decent forwards but their center and other guard we poor and they had no bench. Loved to watch him play against UK. They would play box & one or other gimmick defenses and Pete would find a way to score time after time.

Maybe 4.5 stars, but not a 5. Pete was a prolific scorer, but not the greatest college player. Alcindor, Walton, David Thompson, maybe; but Pistol Pete never got his team the Final Four. Had he played for Dean Smith, he would probably been just a 20 PPG scorer. I will say that taken from an entire basketball career, Pete gets 5 Stars.

Greatest EVER! Just like Wilts' 126 NBA records, Petes records will most likely NEVER be broken.

The only negative I would say about Pete is that he shot a million times,no wonder he scored so much!

I give Pete four star. he was the best shooter to walk on the hardwood. he had to be. There was little if any support from the other 4. It was MUCH tougher to make the NCAAs in those days, so i take that knock against him with a grain of salt. If he played on a medern day Duke, he'd average near 30/game becaus ehe'd be forced to play within a controlled offense. I would argue he was the best guard ever in college.

Maravich was the best scorer in the history of college basketball all without the 3-point shot. There will never be another one like him, especially today when shooting skills are non-existent.

Maravich was not the best college player of all time.. want proof? He led the nation in scoring and single-handedly led his team to... a 20-8 record? Never made the NCAAs.. Larry Bird led the nation in scoring, and came within a hair's breadth of winning it all. Larry Bird, for one, was better than Maravich in college, and probably 10 or 12 others.. but Pete was good.. I almost ended up playing for BOTH of his high schools myself btw.

Prolific scorer, fundamentally sound, if a bit neglectful of defense. LSU, at the time, was a one man show. It's unfortunate Pete played for his Dad and not on a true team.

The Pistol is THE Greatest College player ever. How can anyone even dare to dispute this fact? The greatest showman, scorer, passer and ballhandler. The guy who gave him 3 stars doesn't realize that Maravich, long before Bird and Jordan, singlehandedly brought a revolution to the game of basketball, changing the game forever. What did he win? He is the benchmark that every player and player-wanna-be, EVERYWHERE, emulated ever since he stepped on the court. "Winning" is so much more than a trophy. He "won" so many records, many never to be challenged and all so very far ahead of the 3-point games of recent history. EVERYONE began to dribble between their legs and pass behind their back. He led the revolution--with no supporting cast! NO--He invented the revolution! He is the wizard and magician that no one else can come close to. He has WON that place in history from which the rest follows!

There is no arguement that Pete Maravich is the greatest college basketball player of all time. In 100 years it will still be true. 3,667 points in 3 years with no 3-pt line. Nobody will ever come close to that. To average 44.2 points per game for a career is simple incredible. Besides being the greatest scorer, he was the greatest passer as well. Ask anyone who ever had the privelege of watching him play and they will tell you that he created life-long memories every game. To doubt "Pistol's" greatness is absurd and I can think of at least 3,667 reasons.

pistol pete was and is the greatest college basketball player of all time. i had the priveledge of being one of the 2-3 players to out score him in his college career. and he would have the opponent's watching him instead of guarding him.

Pistol Pete Maravich was the greatest player in NCAA history. If he had played with the right mix of talented players in the NBA when he was healthy, had the three-point rule, then he could have had some NBA rings. I had the honor of meeting Pistol Pete and his Dad at Kutsher's Basketball Camp, Monticello NY in 1969/1970. He was spectacular. He is definitely missed.

THE FACTS SHOW THAT PISTOL PETE WAS AND PROBABLY ALWAYS BE THE BEST NCAA MENS BASKETBALL PLAYER EVER. HIS STATS WERE ASTONISHING: Led NCAA in scoring: 68-70; Highest NCAA career and season PPG: 44+; Scored over 50 points in a game 10 times in a season, 28 times in career (3 yrs); Made a crazy 30 free throws in a game; Best scoring average by a soph, jr., and sr. w/43.8, 44.2, and 44.5 respectively; Oh yea, as a guard also averaged 6+ rebs and 5+ assts a game; Most points scored: career and season; Most FG's attempted and made: career and season...not to mention the way he revolutionized the transition game, passing, and play making. The talk of Magic being the pioneer of this art, well who do you think was his Mentor: the PISTOL!!!!!!

Maravich was the most prolific scorer and ball handler in the history of college basketball and the greatest showman in the history of all levels. Who cares if the guy never won. He needed a supporting cast. This guy should definitely be ranked above Bird. The guy who gave him 3 stars is high as a kite and obviously has never watched or played basketball in his life!

Pete was a diamond in the rough. If he had been coached by someone other than his father and if they had the three point line, he would be an even greater legend. As it is, no one could handle the ball and throw the passes that he could. And no one will ever break his scoring record.

Greatest college basketball player for excitement ever. Honored to see three of his games in person. Will never forget those three nights in OKC. Tremendous all around player, greatest scorer and passer in CB history.

Over 44 points a game and a great passer. He threw the best pass I ever saw, behind the back, between the defenders legs on a fast break and his reammate never had to break stride.

Oh my! Pistol Pete was an outstanding all around basketball player who had a weak supporting cast. His scoring records have lasted longer than Babe Ruth's home run mark. Plus, according to John Wooden, he was the greatest ballhandler in the history of basketball. 44.2 points a game and lead the SEC in assists. Not as dominate as Lew Alcindor or Bill Walton because he was a guard.

Pistol Pete is the greatest scorer in college basketball history. His scoring averages for his three seasons at LSU (freshman didn't play back then) are the top 3 of all time and will never be broken. He averaged around 44 points/game for his college career. Now, it is news if a player scores 40 in one game.
