 | georges11 (21) 11/05/2007 | The Mongoose deserves a 5 star rating. he's one of the best fighters in boxing history. He cleaned up on the light heavies. And he fought the best heavyweights of his day. His career lasted for a long time. I believe he was one of the fighters that actually put Marciano on the deck even though Rocky came back to win the fight. What I remember about Moore is he hit really hard and had very long arms. He also had that defense that I saw Kenny Norton use during his career.

 | VicBobb (0) 07/06/2007 | Archie Moore was an absolute gentleman [whose advice to me when I was 16 still determines the clockwise motion of my left fist at the end of a jab] whose guts against Durrell make that my vote for the greatest match ever. Pure class, all decent, and more balls than the last 40 years of the NFL combined. Nobody but Marciano deserves the kind of respect that the Old Mongoose has coming.

 | lmreynolds (0) 01/17/2006 | 5 Stars to Archie Moore - he was a great boxer who came from the streets and earned his way to the top. The only boxer in history to fight both Marciano and Clay - he was the 1st trainer that Clay had when Clay came out of the Olympics. Earned the title of "Mr. San Diego" and played the slave, Jim, in Huck Finn. Archie was one of the first 5 inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame. Both President Eisenhower and President Regan acknowledged Archie's work with wayward teens. A great man both in and out of the ring. May his story be told someday on the big screen.

 | callitdowntheline75 (69) 09/25/2004 | Archie Moore deserves to be ranked among the other greats of this list. 'The Old Mongoose', as he was often called, was a gentleman out of the ring, but a true warrior inside. A light heavyweight with a taste for fighting larger opponents, Moore fought anyone, anywhere and anytime. But Moore was so much more than a champion at light heavyweight, as he mentored wayward fighters to glory (such as a 1970s scowling George Foreman). He was influential, using his logic and force of personality to help the disadvantaged of San Diego, and inspired countless others to succeed beyond what they thought was possible. Perhaps not the greatest fighter, Archie Moore was nevertheless exceptional in the ring and out.

 | jaywilton (29) 09/13/2004 | His kayo record of 140 will never be broken;Moore finally made the best of his shot at the lightheavy title in his late 30's against Joey Maxim, won and held the title for 10 years. He was also one of a handful of the great boxing personalities.

 | StevePI (0) 08/11/2004 | If you're ever down and out and feel like packing it in check out the 1958 fight between Archie Moore and hard hitting Canadian Yvonne Durrell. Durrell all but knocked Moore out several times but couldn't finish him off. Moore wouldn't quit, gradually regained his senses and his strength, let Durrell punch himself out and then knocked him out. That was Archie Moore. He had brains and guts and I admired the man greatly.

 | TheEvilSaintEvan (0) 07/16/2004 | couldnt get it done against marciano, charles, or burley, but he beat every1 else. hes one of the greatest light heavys ever. he had the rare combination of uncanny ring smarts and terrific punching power. i doubt there is a single light heavy who had the heart of archie moore. and his 141 record KOs will never be matched.

 | Indio70 (0) 04/09/2004 | Not even allowed into the BIG TIME until he was an old man. NO ONE has more knockouts, if THE MONGOOSE had not had that exposure at the END of his career (at an age when most fighters of the time had retired) he would have been another one lost to the black hole. The greatest light heavyweight to date in his time, better than Charles (who beat him up as an old man). That's like saying Holmes was better than Ali, or Marciano was better than Louis, yeah they were on the nights they fought. But it's another case of the old guard being served up to the young Lions when their ego's damn them into being the last to know it's over.

 | John Stump (0) 02/11/2004 | Archie Moore was a BOXER not a Fighter. Only Willie Pep has a greater match record. And how about those movie matches in The Fortune Cookie, Break Heart Pass, and Batman?

 | Latunskij (0) 07/03/2003 | NOT undefeated at 175, Ezzard Charles beat him three out of three, once by KO, before Charles turned heavyweight. Probably the second best lightheavy after Charles, but still easily worth
five stars.

 | Nacho (0) 07/03/2003 | Wish there were a way to give an extra half star; Moore was one of the rare boxers who personified all that there is to admire in the sport. He had bricks for balls.

 | Mark McKee (0) 04/13/2003 | One of the all-time greats of boxing, unfortunatly he was only a good heavyweight because of his size. What a fighter, anyway you want to judge.

 | rogue (0) 02/19/2003 | I'm suprised to find him so far down in the rankings. No one in his class came close and he had to range far out of his weight class and far beyond the average age to meet anything like a match. Heck, in a couple of his later fights I think that if he'd have been allowed to face some of the heavier guys without putting on weight to qualify he'd have beat them.

 | Frankie Da Bull (0) 10/11/2002 | Best light heavyweight of all time (undefeated at light heavyweight) and held the LHW title longer than any man in history. Most ko's of any fighter in history.
Too small to bang with the big boys, even if the big boys were only 190lbs.
