If there are three fighters who might rightfully deserve the title of greatest ever, they are: Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, and Henry Armstrong. 'Homicide Hank' was the only man to hold titles from three different weight classes SIMULTANEOUSLY! And he was a fighter who gave even the great Sugar Ray Robinson fits. A man of great skills and mental toughness, Henry Armstrong was mostly a menace because of both his great speed and remarkable endurance. A fighter was never the same after fighting 'Homicide', and no one ever wanted to fight him more than once after taking a beating from this all-time great.

For quantity, quality and exciting style and fights, nobody today compares with him;barely anybody during his time compared with him either. It's not possible that anybody could've asked for their money back after watching an Armstrong fight.

perpetual motion: never ending movement, henry armstrong. only man to hold three division titles at the same time (overlooking these alphabet titles and jr this and super that). nonstop punches with no slowing down means one thing: fighting machine! he shook off blood loss, endless beatings, broken bones, and quality opponents. however, he had kind of a mixed record: W and L to ambers, W and L(2) to zivic, W wright, W ross, W angott, W jenkins, W(3) and L(2) arizmendi, and he lost to robinson late in armstrongs career. but his accomplishments and style more than make up for any flaws he has. probly the best lightweight or featherweight ever, but not the best welterweight. henry armstrong was a vicious fighter who wouldnt stop fighting until he won or until he was dead.

Anyone who held the feather, welter and light weight belts has got to be recognised as a great and unlike most fighters he didnt carry on too long, he retired the great fighter that he is. When he died his heart was found to be a third bigger than the average size (beacuse he trained so much).

This cat faught with no mouth piece, cuts in both eyes, and yes even broken bones. but the thing that stands out most about mr. Armstrong is one word courage. in his first battle with fellow hall of famer Lightning Lou Ambers in 1937. He was on his way to the history books. this is the fight that even the haters had to say Armstrongs the man!! The ref was going to stop the fight so what did Homicide Hank do. Did he say I can't fight anymore, no because the word quit was not in his lexicon. He drank his own blood and endured with a monumental 2nd championship out of his third. The fight with another of his hallmates Barney Ross cemented his greatness, It stood out , for here's another weightclass to add to his collection. Even though he lost to ambers in a conterversial outcome, Armstrong showed the heart and resilliance in any and all situation. His feats even inspired one Placio de Explosivo Alexis Arguello to attempt a 3 title win himself, in 1982 he challenged The Hawk Aaron pryor for his championship , in a 15round ko he lost. But one special guest was in the croud and both fighters showed their respect for a man that was certanly worthy, Even thought Arguello dedicated the fight to Hammerin Hank and lost, Armsrtong apprecated the effort. God bless his soul

I like Armstrong against any featherweight who ever lived. I like him against any lightweight, including Roberto Duran. He has a chance against any welterweight, including Robinson and Burley, and he could tackle all of these men at the SAME time. No fighter had better stamina, including Marciano or Greb, Armstrong started throwing hurtful punches in bunches from the opening bell and didn't stop until the final bell. He was not a huge puncher, but for some reason did not lose what power he had as he went up in weight. Being a small Black man fighting at a time before television and PPV, is the only reason Armstrong is not considered the greatest fighter of all time. He is better than Robinson because when Robinson moved up two weight classes, he was beaten by Joey Maxim and when Armstrong moved up two weight classes he hammered Barney Ross into defeat. As Maxim said, it doesn't matter if the heat stopped Robinson, there was no air-conditioning in Maxim's corner. Armstrong could have gone 15 competitive rounds with a bear trap on his leg. Best fighter that ever lived.

The second greatest fighter of all-time, behind only Sugar Ray Robinson. Tremendous fighter with incredible stamina, vicous attacks, and threw punches nonstop from numerous angles. Not many fighters could handle his relentlessness. His feat of holding the WORLD featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight titles SIMULTANEOUSLY!!!!, will never be repeated. Like the previous poster stated, imagine if Marco Antonio Barrera moved up 9 pounds and beat Floyd Mayweather, then move up another 12 pounds to beat Vernon Forrest. Unimaginable...simply amazing.

A rating less than 5***** is a disservice to the legacy of Mr. Armstrong. After all, he won the feather/light/welter weight belts, holding two, if not all three belts, at the same time. That's a lot of weight variance in boxing folks and virtually impossible to duplicate ever again. To put what Armstrong did in perspective, try imagining Erik Morales going up against Shane Mosely...and winning! Get the picture--Henry Armstrong is a boxing legend!!!
