08/24/2007 | To me Chavez is one of the gratest fighters out there of his decade. I still remember that fight with Taylor. Taylor was taking it to him but he made a big mistake and that is standing in front of a semi when its coming. Chavez just ruined Taylors career he was never the same after the great Chavez.

01/27/2007 | Chavez is right outside the top 10 pound-4-pound of all time. a phenomonal fighter who didn't lose in his first 88 fights and who defended world titles more than any other fighter(27 times). Taylor could have outboxed him if he didn't stand and fight as much, but the stoppage was good. Whitaker completaly outclassed him and at best chavez won two rounds. Whitaker is top 10 pound-4pound and chavez is right outside of it, but understand that whitaker beats chavez at any stage of his career, wrong stytle for chavez and way to skilled. The only fighters better than Duran our Robinson and Armstrong and he is the only one who could out-fight chavez. anything chavez did, DURAN DID BETTER.

04/11/2006 | Without a doubt the greatest fighter from the mid 80's to the mid 90's. No one comes close. I still remembered how he murdered all of his opponents. The best accurate puncher I ever saw. Duran hit hard but he just missed too many shots, Chavez would make him pay for that. The best Latino fighter ever.

01/30/2006 | Que te fumaste Mexicano ? Chavez no le llega ni a los talones al Cholo Roberto Mano de Piedra Durán, único boxeador en la historia que pudo nokear desde el primero hasta el 15vo asalto. Obtuvo sus títulos mundiales venciendo a los mejores campeones de su época, Ken Bucanan, Leonard, Iran Barkley. Solo con lo que hizo en su reinado de seis años en los livianos supera a Chavez en méritos. Cuando todos pensaban que estaba acabado, renacia como el Fénix de sus cenizas. A la edad de 37 años supero a un joven Iran Barkley que venia de nokear a Tomas Hearns en 3 asaltos, Chavez no pudo a los 36 en dos oportunidades vencer, ni siquiera terminar los 12 asaltos, a De La Hoya. Lo que mas pena me da son las peleas del hijo de Chavez, le han sacado a los peores boxeadores del mundo para que tenga un récord respetable, que basura. Ya deje de fumar tanta hierba y de comer tantas tortillas mexicanito come frijoles.

02/25/2005 | crippling puncher and body puncher, never say die heart, good stamina, perfect technique and skill, and probly the best chin in history below the middleweight division. had some great fights and victories over the best fighters like ramirez, camacho, rosario, laporte, and taylor. he should have retired earlier though.

He was top 2 best ever. I loved the way he warred all his fights. People forget that he was well past his prime at 32 when he fought Oscar but he is a Mexican fighter and they are usually worn out by age 28 or 29. if this guy doesn't get the props he deserves its crime.

01/30/2005 | People who never got to watch Chavez fight in his prime, really missed one of the greatest champs of his or any era. His relentless attacking demeanor. quickness and smarts were why he never lost a fight in his prime. People can talk about Oscar, Tito or Sugar Shane...but in his prime, Julio destroys all of them.

12/06/2004 | There have not been nor may we ever see another boxer of this calibur. Chavez surpassed Marciano's mark of fights without a loss and continued for 47 more before so. His knowledge, and skill are unmatched and his legendary fights will never be forgotten.

consistent fighter.All the greats lost sooner or later;after going undefeated
for 90-some fights,Chavez was overdue-and older. In any case,he is one of the truly memorable greats,ever.

09/21/2004 | The Greatest Fighter of All Time. He destroyed the best and had a better start to his career than Sugar Ray Robinson and Willie Pep along the way. He holds all time title fight and attendence records. Nobody in the last 50 years even comes close to breaking both of those records.

07/21/2004 | He didn't just win, he destroyed people. As for Meldrick Taylor, the poor guy went to the hospital and never recovered from the physical beating Chavez gave him. Chavez went home and had a beer after the fight. And as for Pernell Whittaker, you can't beat a great champion if your engine's stuck in reverse for 12 rounds

07/07/2004 | Great, great fighter BUT...Taylor had him beat and everybody knows it. Whitaker was a victim of the most bogus decision I ever witnessed watching boxing. As much as I love boxing, I actually turned my back on the sport for a long time because I was so disgusted with that injustice.
Don't think he would've beaten prime Duran or any other top fighter with great hand speed.

05/20/2004 | It never stops AMAZING me how our feelings about a person or situation clouds our judgement. Julio's greatness is matter of opinion, but Taylor BEATING him like he stole something is FACT. Taylor took Chavez to a skool that thanks to Richard Steele and people like Chavez fans - closed before more students had the opportunity to come and learn. He hit Chavez SOOO often SOOO many times he was just plain exhausted by the 12th round. Beit fan or not - you know DARN well that the fight should not have been stopped (2 seconds left or 1:00 min) and that Chavez not only lost his Championship, but MOST importantly GOT HIS A_ _ WHIPPED.

05/10/2003 | Pound for Pound the Greatest of All Time!!! 6 Time World Champion, 100 plus fights,83 K.O.'s., Between 1980-82 a string of 20 straight KO's,3 different weight classes, etc... These are stats that will probably never be equaled (especially in todays PPV society). Like many boxers he should have ended his career earlier; however, he never ducked a fight. Highlight of his career destroying Taylor (Chavez-Taylor I)in one of the greatest fights of all time. Lowlights, being manhandled by forklift driver Willy Wise. Without a doubt, no holds barred, the most prolific, ferocious, honorable, passionate giver of chingasos of all time.
