Always fun to watch, the lowly Aggies are headed out of the FBS division soon. They need to be playing Marshall and Bowling Green.

Tennessee was the most disappointing team this year, but A&M was easily second. Horendous season. Coach Fran may have saved his job this season, but if it happens next season, the Aggies will be trying to hire Charlie Weis or Pete Carroll. UPDATE: I agree with Chris G. in that the Aggies will get back to their winning days again. However, even though the Aggies contended for a national title in the 90's, how many did they win? Zero.

Yeah, it was pretty embarassing. I think my beloved Aggies should forget about the missed opportunities of the past, and hope that we can avoid another national TV embarassment against the next also-ran team. The fact is, even in the heyday of the early 90's, we still couldn't win any big games. How many Cotton Bowl trophies came back to College Station? None under Slocum, that I can recall, even though he got close many times. That was his trademark--mediocrity. In fact, the only real success A&M football has had was under Jackie Sherrill in the 1980's. He was a winning coach, and could win the big one. As an Aggie, I see how overrated we were in the 1990's. We never belonged in that top tier, because all we had was defense. Now, I just wish we had a team that could compete with the Utes--pretty sad. But...we did just kick Clemson's ass!

The Aggies are a Top 20 team. This is a fact too. ESPN had a Top 20 teams of all time and I am positive they were 20th. Check it out. The Ags have been down the past couple years, but will soon be back in the National spotlight. I would like to refrech that dude's memory at the top... Since about 1985 when Jackie Sherril was the coach the Aggies won the SWC almost every year and contended for the National title in the early 90's. Oh and The Aggies did have an undefeated team in 1994. Do your homework. The Aggies will soon climb back into the national spotlight next year if not this year.

7,000 traditions and an overrated high school mentality.

Please, they even had to steal a coach that, on his best day, is OK. That with no talent makes them.... terrible!

I would love for Texas A&M to be one of the top 5 teams in the nation, but I don't see that anytime in the forseeable future. I was sad to see RC go and the way that Franchione handled his 'Bama players when he left. Hopefully, they can win 8 or 9 games next year, then really start assaulting the top 10.

College football's top tier consists of perhaps four to six elite programs. These schools are always in the hunt for the national title. Some come and go, but the group is pretty small. Texas A&M wants desperately to belong to this group, but they have been unable to put together a complete season, much less the several needed as ante. They remain a top twenty school, with a solid program and are capable of beating anybody on any given Saturday. I place them squarely in the second tier. Now the Univ. of Texas is also in this group. The biggest difference is that UT knows it, and the Aggies don't. UT will go 9-2 and say, "Good year, we'll try again next year." The Aggies will go 8-3 and say, "We should be pre-season #1 next year, we're going all the way..!" I think that RC Slocum has taken this team as far as he can. It's time for someone else to take what he has built and try again to assault that hill.
