The only player I've ever seen in 40 years of watching football that could change a game on any play in any game against any opponent.

Herschel and Bo Jackson were the best running backs ever to play in the NFL!
bobbybobby22 01/13/2009
ASTONISHING!!!!!
UbrFan 01/12/2009
I Hate to get roped in, but, Herschel had over 18,000 NFL total yards. And although Herschel was neither faster nor stronger than Bo, he was a better college running back. As a Viking fan i know first hand that he was wildly effective in MN when used properly, and although he will never go down as an NFL all time great, he isn't even close to a bust.
Finiteman 06/10/2008
I can't hink of anyone who was noticably better.

very good, not greatest

Greatest college football player of all-times, past, present, or future. Along with his phenominal stats that nobody will ever match for any three year span at any level, there's his impeccable integrity and character. No other college player can or will ever be able to say that! Get over it, he is the greatest of ALL-TIME!
shad65 09/21/2007
If Herschel would have played his senior year, his all time rushing record would stand forever
mikeg21 07/03/2007
NOT AS GOOD AS BO
gatorhater99 03/21/2007
The greatest player in the schools history. had the power to determine a game if he had a good day they won and that was it. #1 in my book! Go Dawgs
Mashie07 01/16/2007
Third and 8, third and 12, give to Hershel. The defense knew it was coming and still couldn't stop him. Best ever. Unfortunately doesn't get the respect he deserves for his pro career.
skulldog04 01/15/2007
Great, dominant RB. Not as good as Barry Sanders by no means!!!
silverado98v 12/10/2006
Herschel didn't have a good passing game to hide behind. Every team knew who was going to have the ball and they still couldnt stop him. The year Georgia won the national title, Buck Belue threw all of 8 passes.
Gator99Hater 11/29/2006
Holds almost all of the rushing records. Even befor teams played 12 games a season.
alexandertruth 10/18/2006
great
Herschel34god 06/20/2006
Barry Sanders was good in the pros and decent in college but he wasnt near as good as herschel I mean could he really run over 4 players on one play and jump as high as herschel or have near as the speed of herschel and beat the angles that people had on herschel? and the answer is hell no!!!
teetheboss823 01/26/2006
The most dominant tailback in the history of college football.Maybe the most impressive physically to. Size, speed, he had it all.

If you're old enough, you remember Walker making his opponents look like Pee-Wee players chasing down a runaway grizzly. . .it was amazing to watch him run. . .
wilprosser 11/25/2005
Walker is by far the greatest. Ron Dayne, Ricky, 4 years to break hersch's marks. O yea to the comments on college classes; I looked at the topic on this page and its about FOOTBALL. The comments probably came from someone who attended a run of the mill institute or junior college and spent 5 or 6 years and 60,000 dollars of daddy's cash to wrap up a bussiness degree and their schools only athlete to speak of was in the early 50's or playing arena 2 now. So now they live vicariously through U.S.C., Miami, Texas or whatever school is doing good this year.

Great player and even better human being.
scubapro999 08/07/2005
How can he be a college football player when he never attended any college classes? I would say he was a good minor league player at that school for wayward children known as UGa.

Quit College!
AG Mines 09/18/2004
No Super Bowls Title, no NCAA or NFL Records that lasted, left school early by talking to an agent!
NCAAPLAYER 09/09/2004
Well let's see - it's almost 25 years later and his Freshman rushing record at UGA still stands - 6'1 222lbs world class speed and played against the most competitive conference (SEC) in College football. - The Greatest College running back of all time.
Duke.U.S.C 07/21/2004
GOOD, BUT GEORGE ROGERS WAS BETTER!
jonhere 07/08/2004
One of the best ever but fortunately he didn't do to well in his last game at Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Who was that team... oh yea Penn State.
ButtonGwinnett 07/01/2004
Easily the greatest college player of all time. No guy ever meant more to his team. What's even better is that he's twice the man than he is a player. Also remember that he's an Olympian.
BeanoCook 02/07/2004
Best college player ever!
Trojanman1963 09/15/2003
He was good but he was no Marcus Allen
supervillaingu y 01/05/2003
Walker was the only player to ever have a 90 yard run, catch, and kick off return in the same season. If you add his USFL yardage to his NFL yardage he surpasses all running backs.
Munson 02/13/2000
Even as a freshman, Herschel was a man among boys. He had an unmatched combination of speed (he was a world-class sprinter) and strength (his daily workouts of push-ups and sit-ups are legendary) which enabled to both run by defenders, as well as over them. Unfortunately, to many, he will be remembered as the man who, through his trade to the Vikings, single-handedly rebuilt the Cowboys.
cwil466om 10/28/1999
OK, but he can't compare to Sims as a speed/power back.
