very talented actor.  he can make you laugh as he did in twister, and along came polly, or he can be the guy you love to hate as he was in Mission Impossible III, (which i thought to be his best performance to date).

Update:  ok its late and I really need to go to bed....He won the oscar for Capote, not Capone......big difference there........

I haven't seen a bunch of movies with him but he is awesome in all of them. Sometimes you don't even realize its him. He won the Oscar for Capone and you would swear it was the writer....in Patch Adams he also was wonderful...then take the fun side in Twister as the rock-n-roll loving tornado chaser. He is young enough to have a very bright future! 

I don't understand why this guy is in the movies.  He isn't talented at all and he's a smug prick.  I guess Hollywood has to pick at least one unattractive guy to put in movies.  Now that JT Walsh is dead, I guess Hoffman gets the nod as that guy.

This guy is a great actor. He can be funny or serious at the push of a button.

Outstanding actor. I urge anyone who loves great acting as I do to check him out in "Capote."

He seems an unlikely candidate for superstardom but he is quietly marching his way to the top of the heap as a great actor.

I saw him in one movie - The Talented Mr. Ripley and he was excellent. He was alright in The 25th hour. I've heard he has talent and I've seen that he can alter his look to play the role given. I think this may be a talented guy who is one great movie away from being a big time star. Would'nt be surprsied if he won an Oscar.

Hoffman is one of those actors where you immediately recognize his voice and his face and say 'my, I've seen him in lots of films...but his name escapes you. A brilliant character actor, he has shined in Patch Adams, Boogie Nights, Cold Mountain and countless others. A favorite of mine is his role as cynical rock critic Lester Bangs in Almost Famous. He is absolutely outstanding and deserves much more respect.

If Phillip Seymour Hoffman looked like Tom Cruise, Orlando Bloom or Jude Law he would be a lot more recognised as an actor and unfortunately a lot more appreciated. But by Hollywood standards hes not leading man material which is an awful shame! He's absolutely brilliant if you catch any of his films as a supporting character in Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino, Boogie Nights as Mark Wahlbergs best friend and that absolute tripe film that he still managed to outshine in Cold Mountain, you will see this actors amazing and outstanding talent.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the most shamefully overlooked actors in American movies. He'll break out of character roles someday and when he does, he'll surprise a lot of people.
