My good friends Ryen & Nate always refer to Easter as Zombie Jesus Day. Being decidedly irreligious, I find this hilarious. We still celebrated the holiday this past year (traditionally), but this reminder gives me an idea for a zombie themed party come April (or March or whenever the hell Easter is). Sweet. The same friends are already planning an apocalypse party for 2012 after I dragged Ryen of them to see the film with me! :DUpdate:Proof!

What sort of cretin is amused by this innacurate and unfunny slur?It only serves to give atheists a bad name.

I'm not religious and zombies are for Halloween so how about 'CADBURY DAY!!!!'

I first heard the phrase "Zombie Jesus" on Futurama, although I don't know if that is where it originates. I'm not enough of a Religious fanatic that I can't see the humor in this, but renaming Easter is just taking the joke way to far.

Easter, like Christmas (Feast of Saturnia--the week long Roman holiday celebrating the year's harvest) has pagan roots. You'd be surprised at how the early Catholic church superimposed a lot of old Roman traditions into the Christian faith. When Catholicism became the official faith under Constantine, they sought to convert the bulk of the population by allowing them to maintain certain aspects of Rome's cultural heritage. The old holiday's and celebrations simply received Christian overtones. I suppose it's the thought of celebrating Christ's birth and death that counts the most, but still...I don't know what this Zombie Jesus Day is. He did rise from the dead, but he most certainly wasn't a zombie. My suspicion is that someone has been watching too many horror films!!

No other name for Easter but Easter, and those of us coming from the Christian side believe it was the resurrection of Jesus.

I've never heard this one,but "Easter" is another Pagan Holy Day co-opted by the Church of Rome.It was Eostre,or Ostarra,a fertility rite. The Rabbit and the Egg are both fertility symbols. The word "easter" is linguistically related to ESTROGEN,something Jesus, risen or not,did not have.

I'm sure CanadaSucks has a fitting image for this one.UPDATE: Now I know some people are a tad militant about this item, but I'll just say that I think that man being created in God's image means that He most certainly has a sense of humor and He might be laughing at this, for all we know...

I've not heard of this name for Easter before, but it's such a good name I think Easter festivities should include a game of Left 4 Dead or Dead Rising... maybe even a chocolate Zombie instead of a chocolate egg.

Never heard of this before, and I can appreciate the joke regarding Jesus rising from the dead. However, I think a lot of people who celebrate Easter would be offended to hear this term. It also doesn't really roll of the tongue that well, especially when Easter is so easy to say.

Zombie Jesus day? What the hell will people come up with next? It sounds more like your making fun of JC when you put it that way. Granted he was resurected, I dont need to be thinking about my savior in zombie form on a Sunday. Aside from the commercialsim (bunny, chocolates ect) its one of the most important religious holidays of the year. Calling it Zombie Jesus Day sounds more like a mockery and makes him sound a bit evil. Sounds like something stupid that alot of your college kids thought up.

This phrase is insulting to that great film-maker, George Romero. Now I think I'm going to stand over here, out of the blast radius.

This term does not have a good ring to it. I take Easter too seriously for that. It's either Easter, or perhaps Resurrection Day.

Ya know, I never really thought of it that way, but why did people not run in zombie fear when they saw a dead man walking among them?
twansalem 04/15/2009
I think this year was the first time I heard this one. Let's just say I'm not a fan and leave it at that.

I really like this one and think that it is an apt description. In the story Jesus definitly fit the definition of zombie after his supposed resurection. Some uptight people may not see the humor.
