A bit of a shot in the dark. Could be a pleasant surprise, could be another futile move.

Tampa Bay is another team with a mess at QB. Really, Byron Leftwich, Luke McCown, or Josh Freeman, could start, so they will really have to watch that starting battle in training camp, and even after the starter is decided they still have to decide who should be 2nd string. I think Brian Griese is still with them, but I doubt he will play much let aone start. Whoever the QB is they have a great WR in Antonio Bryant and a good RB in Derrick Ward. Overall though, I think this will give Leftwich a good chance to start with Tampa Bay, and that would be good for him.

Even though Jon Gruden was fired this past offseason, the Bucs are still collecting QB's like there's no tomorrow. They're bringing in 5 QB's to compete this year at training camp and at least three of them (Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich, and rookie Josh Freeman) all have a shot at winning the job.

My money's on Leftwich, but it wouldn't surprise me if they start the rookie. Leftwich is an up and down type of player; when he makes mistakes, it seems to rattle him a bit. He's also injury prone and tends to play out of shape. But on experience alone, Leftwich should be favored; the temptation to start a talented rookie might be a bit too much for them though. Who knows, this QB competition is one that's completely in the air.

At least on paper, they have a solid o-line, a decent running-game and some good pass catchers. Their QB situation however is shaky, and that could create problems for them in the long term. It'll come down to a bunch of mediocre QB's and a rookie.

This should be a good move for the Buccaneers and Byron Leftwich. Leftwich was also considering resigning with the Steelers to backup Roethlisberger, and an offer to most likely serve as a backup with the Redskins. The Buccaneers don't have an established starter going into this season, so he will at least get the chance to compete with Brian Griese and Luke McCown. He played a lot when he was young, and didn't fare too badly. The problem for him was that he wasn't as great as the Jaguars expected him to be.
After a wasted year in Atlanta he performed well as the back up in Pittsburgh. He hopefully has some more maturity now and at least a Super Bowl ring on the way. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win the starter's job in Tampa and see him put up some decent numbers.
