There are a lot of games in the world, and that's probably what sparked the interest of Mangaka Kazuki Takahashi when he decided to write a game themed manga for Shonen Jump. This manga (known as Yu-Gi-Oh! [遊☆戯☆王, Yū☆gi☆ō?, lit. "Game King"] eventually featured a card game in it called 'Duel Monsters' which was turned into the real-life card game we know today as Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game (遊☆戯☆王オフィシャルカードゲーム, Yū☆Gi☆Ō Ofisharu Kādo Gēmu) The card game is pretty unique compared to the other two mega popular card games: Pokemon TCG and Magic: The Gathering. It's kind of like a mix of those two games. Think of it as Magic: The Gathering with that cute anime Japanese aesthetic. It features all sorts of cool and crazy creatures from zombies to dragons to faeries and more, and although very deep, it still remains within grasp of anyone willing to learn the rules. Basically it involves you playing monsters to battle your opponent's monsters or your opponent directly. These battles are augmented by a multitude of unique happenings such as magic spells and traps. Also, monsters themselves can possess abilities which add depth to the game. There is some luck involved, since you have to draw cards and roll a die sometimes, but if you build a strong deck and play strategically you can easily win consistently. This is my favorite trading card game. It doesn't try to be cute and cuddly like Pokemon or kid friendly, but at the same time it has it's own Japanese flair which keeps it different enough from Magic: the gathering. The monsters and traps are all pretty cool and obviously pay homage to Magic: The Gathering and other fantasy titles. The art is unique too and seems to all be drawn by the original Manga artist which is very cool indeed! Some of my really shiny cards look absolutely stunning and will definitely make you go "ooooooh" and "aaaaaah". If you have the ability to make a deck, learn the rules and play strategically against someone then DO IT and you'll have a lot of fun. It's easier said then done but it's worth it if you know what your getting into. There are also video games which represent the card games also and the card game system gameplsy stays strong in those as well. YuGiOh is fun, unique and deep and I could enjoy and play it for a very long time. Especially since they constantly make new cards and you can even battle people online with your PC. Everyone into games should check it out.
