Eventhough I went to UConn, I know Indiana is the best college basketball program ever.

What is a kid supposed to do when their head coach and famous celebrity abuses them. It's not easy to report someone as powerful as Knight. Why do you think people who are abused by their parents or other authorit figures fail to report them immediately. Knight is a very intimidating character. And you have no clue what Knight does behind closed doors when no one is looking. He lied about choking that player and only confessed to it when he was caught red-handed on a TV camera. So you think lying is a great character trait? If he was so honorable, why didn't Bob Knight just admit he grabbed the player by the neck. He only changed his story when the camera shot was displayed. Knight knew he was busted There is a distinction between being tough and being a bully. Bullies are ignorant thugs who prey on the weak. Tough coaches are those who discipline but have enough honor and ethics to draw the line. Bob Knigh is a selfish bully who takes advantage of meek college students to advance his coaching career. The only reason why so many Indiana students graduate is because they are not good enough to go early to the NBA. Knigh purposefully avoided the McDonald All-Americans and chose farm boys and other no-names that would listen to his every word. This is why he is terrible recruiter today. Some of us place character and integrity above wins. If strictly look at wins, Knight is a great man. When you evaluate him overall as a person, he is disgrace to humanity. He is selfish and manipulative individual that placed his wins above his players welfares. The only reason he graduated so many of his players was because those same players were not good enough to go to the NBA. It's that simple

Certainly a great coach but a total prick too. To criticize Jim Harrick for his ethics and praise Bobby Knight is hypocritical and pathetic. Where's the consistency?

Enjoy him while he's around. You won't see many (if any) Knights in the future. He is too unpolished socially in this modern-era of instant communication and surveillance like TV and internet coverage. All of the exposure simply gives the Bobby Knights of the world too many opportunities to have a gaffe or meltdown. A ferocious competitor. I still remember him jumping all over his '84 Olympic squad that featured Michael Jordan, Chris Mullin, Patrick Ewing and a bunch of other future NBA standouts during a game against Spain in which we were up by 30. He was riding them about a blown defensive rotation that had taken place about 5 seconds earlier.

On pure basketball IQ and accomplishments, noone is better, ever. Knight won championships with 3 different classes. Could have had about 5 championships-Alan Henderson injury, Scott May injury..Noone in the past 30 years come close, except coach K.

Was a great coach, but in today's game when recruiting is so important he is extremely poor in this important facet of coaching. But for an X and O guy there isn't anyoner better.

As an old Tech grad, I can certainly say I enjoy Texas Tech basketball. Bob Knight is about as good a basketball coach as there is walking upright! He has certainly peaked my intrest.

This is a coach rating, right? Not a personality test. Bobby is old school for sure, been around forever. I'm sure if you looked at all the others on the list real close with the media's help for close 35 years, you'd find some things you don't like about them. Bobby Knight has over 800 wins, and 3 National Titles. He is a 5 star coach.

The most influential college basketball in recent history hands down. Ever heard of teh motion offence? Did you know that in one two season span Indiana lost just one game.(by 3 points while our star player and ncaa player of the year was injured) Did you also know that of all the STUDENT

Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows that Kight is one of the five greatest coaches in the history of the game. His introduction of the Motion offense in 1973 revolutionized offensive play and his Motion or a form of it bacame the most widely used offense in the history of the sport. He also brought back to the world of college basketball tough man to man defense based on principles that called for ball pressure, passing lane pressure, help on the ball side of the floor and zone principles away from the ball allowing for help on the weak side of the floor.

Rarely do I take exception to one of your comments Solenoid DH, but as an IU grad I have to give my 2 cents on this one. If Knight was setup he did it to himself - over a looooong period of borderline and often sanctioned psychotic behavior. The fact that he was NOT kicked out of IU sooner and his childish tantrums overlooked for way too long has probably done more long lasting psychological harm to his players than a not so great grade on their math exam. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

I used to detest this man because of his behavior and language. But I've learned since then that he makes sure his players do well academically, for later in life. Then I saw him kicked out at Indiana in what looked like an obvious setup. I'd take him any day over Nolan Richardson, a coach in our state who seems to go out of his way to build ill will among people.

Such an enigma. He possesses one of the greatest basketball minds ever, but his militant demeanor and volcanic temper do not sit well with many of today's players. If he can get his act straightened out, he will once again be a great coach. For Texas Tech's sake, let's hope he can.

A great coach not only builds great players but also plays a major role in building leaders. Bobby Knight tears down his players confidence. If you think it's ok for Knight to get physical with the players then the same should go vice versa. He wouldn't last two minutes going toe to toe with some those guys.

I think Indiana really decided to fire Knight about four months ago. But it would have ruffled too many feathers to just tank him at that point, so IU cleverly decided to give Knight enough rope to hang himself. And, to the surprise of none, hang himself he did. Knight's style of coaching through intimidation just doesn't work anymore, and he's not willing to change. I, for one, will miss the spectacle of his courtside rants. But anyone as arrogant, stubborn, and intolerant as Bobby Knight doesn't deserve to be Coach anymore.

He just never got it. Knight was so old school that he couldn't even fathom a world in which the coach could not be the intimidator, the bully, the owner of his players. When the IU administration instituted a Zero Tolerance policy, there was no question that it was just a matter of time before Knight slipped up - not because he was stupid, but because intimidating players was part of the core identity of Knight as a coach. To give that up would mean admitting that everything about him had become outdated - and Knight is too proud / too old / too ornery to admit this. I have no doubt that as a stand alone situation, grabbing a player by the arm does not warrant a firing. However, given the context of Knight's 20+ years of intimidation, IU had no choice but to can his ass.

Bye Bye Bobby...about time, the IU administration should be ashamed that it took them this long to get rid of him...By mishandling the situation again, it looks like he is being fired for a minor infraction.

This person is a mean-spirited coach who no longer achieves results. Any other faculty member treating students this way would be fired immediately- regardless of performance. Bobby Knight's intimidating style has outlived its usefulness.

Bobby Knight's act is so tired. While it is true that he runs a clean program and his players graduate, he coaches (and does everything) through intimidation. His mistreatment of the media is unforgivable and it is only a matter of time before he does something which the IU administration will have to act on. Please, Bobby, don't become another Woody Hayes.
