Four final fours in seven years, five elite eigths in seven years, six sweet 16 in eight years and one national championship. He has fathered many asssitant coaches to head coaches i.e. Crean,Heath,Garland,Gregory,Joplin and now Wojick.

Tom Izzo really proved himself to doubters this year, and i hope he continues to find great success in college basketball.

Even if he hadn't had the amazing success he has had over the years, I would have to rate him highly for the class way in which he runs his program- no scandal, no controversy and no excuses. He and his players are true gentleman.

This guy is now clearly in the elite group of the top men's college basketball coaches. He is especially masterful at getting his club to peak at the right time, and this has carried him to at least two of the four Final Four's he's gotten to. What I like about Izzo is his class and intellect. He's a very pragmatic coach who recognizes the talent in the other teams he's up against. This year (2005) he knew he didn't have the best club and he'll be quick to tell you that. But he did a superb job getting to the top level and for at least a half, matched/led a much better NC ballclub. The guy is also a gentleman and a true sportsman. What more could a university want in a high profile coach?

Quite possibly one of the most underrated coaches in all of college basketball. Did anyone out there seriously have Michigan State beating Duke and Kentucky, two of basketball's great powerhouses, and getting to the final four? He already has a national championship and he's turned the 2004-05 Spartans into the best team nobody knew about. Oh, by the way, what was that about the Big Ten being a weak conference this year? yeah, that's what i thought.

The king of East Lansing!! Does more for college hoops than anyone. Coaches kids to play the game the right way. Top Three coach--no doubt about it!

Gets no respect! Has one of the best winning percentages in NCAA tourney history. 3 straight final fours. And he doesn't even get the most highly rated recruits (some good ones though). Should be top 5 easy!

CLASS ACT!!! More coaches should model his genuine attitudes.

This big baller led Magic Johnson to an NCAA title over Larry Bird's team. Well, MSU won at least. Izzo was coaching in California. I think Long Beach to be specific. Off the hizzo Izzo my nizzo!

As someone who went to the University of Michigan, it pains me to give Tom Izzo five stars. But I have to do it. The man is a great coach, and he's done an amazing job with the Michigan State program. Three straight Final Four appearances? You have to start considering the Spartans as one of the elite programs these days, right up there alongside Duke, Kansas, Arizona, UNC, Kentucky... As a Wolverine fan, an article I read the other day about Izzo really gave me a sinking feeling in my gut. The article quoted a bunch of Michigan high school coaches as saying that one reason Izzo now has an edge when it comes to in-state recruiting is that his coaches will call them to check up and say hello on a regular basis, regardless of the talent the high school has at the time, while the Michigan coaches only call if there's a blue chip recruit around. Little things like that make you appreciate the foundation Izzo has built in East Lansing. Michigan's new coach, whoever it ends up being, better get on the ball.
