 | sabasimba (0) 07/03/2005 | As Red Auerback has pointed out, this guy has never had to build his own team, he's always been provided with talent ANYONE could win with. Very overrated...

 | Jar-Jar Binks (16) 03/03/2005 | C'mon y'all give the man his due. He's the only coach to win 70+ regular season games; the second coach in NBA history to win titles with two different teams. With his laid-back style, triangle offense, team-oriented system, and his unusual philosophical style of coaching, he's one of the greatest coaches ever.

 | 1JohnDoeFan (5) 01/31/2005 | If it wasn't for the AWESOME talent that he had for both teams (Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers) he would suck big time. Lets see him coach a team like Charlotte Bobcats... they would finish 22-60. He only coaches teams that are obviously going to win.

 | narek33 (0) 07/24/2004 | 9 rings people... how can people say he was just lucky. If anyone could answer my question: How many rings did Jordan or Kobe and Shaq win before Phil's arrival???? NONE. Yeh that right. So dont start that crap of lucky stuff, his is most probably the greatest coach in NBA history. By the way let me remind people that Red Aurbach(however u spell it) might be consider lucky too... he did have Russell, who at his era could win the game by himself. So there let the comments fly.

 | capone520 (0) 06/25/2004 | He is one of the best at getting players to play to their full potential. People like to say otherwise but no team he has coached won a championship until he got there.

 | noitall (0) 06/04/2004 | What can you say about a guy who get's the absolute best talent available at the time. He DID NOT make Jordan a team player, that is like saying he turned him into the defensive superstar which he became as his career progressed. he is more of a babysitter than a coach, his recent group of thugs have no love or respect for the game (see olympic participation) and only see the green or the ring. These guys should never lose a gfame with this talent, if he was any type of coach this would have been drove home a long time ago. Team game guys !!

 | jbueno (0) 05/28/2004 | Lucky...had the the best player if not phenom in the league in Jordan, and Pippen easily in the top 5. With the Lakers, none of that has changed...Shaq, the best player if no phenom in the league and Kobe, the second best if not the best player in the league...most decent coaches could have accomplished what he has if they had this kind od talent to build around.

 | VinnyIN (0) 05/17/2004 | Most overrated coach in the league. Like alot of people here say, it was all because he has good players that already know what to do and don't need coaching. Luck is what I'd call it.

 | conhusk (0) 04/24/2004 | he's one of the luckiest coach in NBA. having a very good resume after winning his first 6 titles (thanks to jordan and pippen), now he has Kobe and Shaq running for his 10th title. he's very clever in always putting himself at the good team to win championships. I'm not sure though how well he can do if he coach the current BULLS (2004 rosters). (by the way notes for PBeavr, spelling michael JORDON; is that a joke ?)

 | BucFanSince76 (0) 08/17/2003 | Actually, it's zero. I'll give him a five when he brings a title to the Clippers or Grizzlies. Chuck Daly turned a laughing stock into a two-time NBA champ. Not this guy. Quite the front-runner.

 | drey99 (0) 08/01/2003 | This guy is the biggest joke in pro sports. His fellow coaches have little respect for him because he's backstabbed his way through organizations, first undermining Collins in Chicago and then West in Los Angeles- The media fawn at his feet because he has had the access to the NBA's superstars- Listening to him yap cause me to puke-This guy couldn't coach a turtle out of its shell....

 | AEnzhRu (4) 05/28/2003 | Even up until several years ago, I wasn't very familiar with Phil, other than his track record of 6 NBA titles with the help of the greatest player ever, MJ. The Lakers were underachievers until Jackson took the helm. When he did, they won 3 straight and were in contention again this year. I've gained more understanding of him as a person, also. This guy is one of the geniuses in NBA history; possibly the greatest coach ever. His track record isn't accidental. He quells players' arguments and contentions, instills a confident frame of mind and brings players together. He's the real deal.

 | Southga (0) 04/10/2003 | Regardless of the stars -- Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, and Kobe -- a coach, Phil Jackson, has a tough time dealing with egos, images, and simply, the game. He has nine championships and maybe more.

 | HDawg1248 (0) 12/24/2002 | Jackson is a good caoch because he manages the egos of his star players well, but he always coaches teams with great players on them already. He's never had to develop a team from stratch, all he has done is take a good team to the next level. I'm sorry, but he's no Red Auerbach.

 | BigBadTA (0) 12/01/2002 | jesus, he has the easiest job in sports, and he has throughout his whole career. Here is the tough job he has had to do, first he told his team to pass to Jordan, and if he's covered pass to Scottie. Now, he tells his guys to pass to Shaq, and if he's not open pass to Kobe, i could coach these teams, and i'm being serious. He never even bothers to get out of his seat! he just sits there and tries to look interested. His idea of coaching is he whistles into his fingers and that means pass it to Shaq, wow, that's tough. The only thing he is good with is ego's, and that's only because he tells them the only way to win a championship is to make friends. Is there anyone on this board who couldn't take the Lakers to a championship?

 | michael glanville (0) 11/13/2002 | How can you not call him # 1 off all time, his got more rings than you got fingers, all thanks to the traing and teaching he got from the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA, the #1 Hockey college of all time!!!!

 | liz louden (0) 06/15/2002 | One of the greatest coaches ever. Players mature immediately under his tutulege and learn how to become solid basketball players with fundamentals and team goals. Just about every other team relies on their isolation plays, and thinking they can win by working harder-Jackson' out-think before tearing team's hearts out. They won almost every game this playoffs by knowing they would win and not because they were necessarily talented enough(hello Sacramento). Any coach who can three peat with two completely different squads with each assortment of bad habits, blown chances(Pippen,O'Neal) and ego trips(Bryant, Jordan) is at least amazing! Auerbach's comment of "Ready made" is embarassing! Not even Jordan could win without Phil, as Stan Albeck, Doug Collins, et al could attest to.

 | Talena (0) 05/09/2001 | I think Phil Jackson is the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. First he makes outrageous comments about how the Kings's luggage should be sniffed by dogs at the airport, and then I find out he's done shrooms and pot. He is a better name-caller than a coach if you ask me. hopefully he, Bryant, and that huge tub of lard Shaq will go away soon. Sacramento 4-ever!

 | vulcan (0) 02/02/2001 | Last years Phil:great
This years Phil:good
The reason for this is Mr.Jacksons inability to understand the nature of the rift between Shaq and Kobe.
While i am no pshycolagist,i do have a gift for seeing into the hearts of people and knowing that sometimes the heart speaks different from the mouth.
The problem comes down to Shaqs freethrow shooting.Try to see it from Kobe's shoes, how fair is it? that while i am good enough to have the ball go through me on every possesion with five minutes remaining and we're down by ten,but when things are not going so bad i'm the second guy.
Besides there's no more Glen Rice,so there's even more reason for me to get more shots.almost seems right huh?But have no fear Laker lovers, this can be solved if the right advise is used.
Operation Sleeping giant part one:Shaq's freethrow shooting can be solved very easily for one such as myself. Its a simple matter of switching, instead of leading with the right foot lead with the left, instead of shooting with the right, shoot with the left. You see Shaq's problem is the same that i have with my right hand,it doesnt drop like the left does. Now other than that he should do exactly like hes been doing,as far as shooting it with one hand and all.
next up, operation sleeping giant part two.

 | DBL TEAM FAN (0) 12/16/2000 | hES GOOD ON EGOS, BUT NOT ON VERSATILITY.HE NEEDS TO ADAPT AND BECOME MORE OF A DISCIPLINARIAN THAN HE LIKES TO BE. HE DOESN'T CALL TIME OUT'S, LETTING THE PLAYERS GET DEEPER INTO THIER BAD HABITS, AND NOT TAKING A STAND. tHE FOCUS OF THE TEAM SHOULD BE SOLELY IMPROVING DEFENSE, THE OFFENSE WILL BE THERE NATURALLY WITHOUT OVER THINKING ABOUT IT. OFFENSE ALWAYS BENEFITS FROM DEFENSE. STRESS REBOUNDS AND "D" AND IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER. PHIL IS TO RIGID, PLEASE ADAPT TO THE SITUATION

 | Wiggum (16) 06/16/2000 | It's time to give Jackson the credit he deserves. When he won six rings with the Bulls, skeptics said "anyone can win six rings with Michael Jordan leading their team." Well, now he's about to win a championship with the Lakers. And yes, he has two of the best players in the NBA on his team. But those players have been there for years, and how did they do in the playoffs? The last two seasons they were embarassed in the early rounds. And let me ask: Would Shaq have been the MVP this year if Jackson hadn't convinced him to work harder on defense and make his offense more complete? Maybe, maybe not. And would Kobe have turned into a Jordan-esque superstar without Jackson's teaching and his ability to massage egos in a way that helped Kobe accept his role as the #2 player in LA? I don't think so. Jackson is a master of molding individual talent into an effective team. It would be interesting to see what Jackson could do with a pathetic team like the Clippers, but that's beside the point. Even if it turned out Jackson isn't capable of pulling a Doc Rivers (turning a low-talent team into over-achievers), he would still be an excellent coach. In a high-talent environment, there is no question that Jackson is the man.

 | magellan (153) 01/26/2000 | He is making a statement this year that you need more than talent on the floor to win consistently. He has turned the perennially underachieving, egotistical Lakers into the best team in the league.

 | Ruby (15) 12/29/1999 | The best coach in basketball. He understands the wisdom of restraint, at defining roles and goals, and giving players the confidence that all will flow toward the achievement of that goal. That style of leadership won the Cold War for Ronald Reagan and it (and MJ) won 6 championships for Phil Jackson!
